Chris027 got a reaction from Durango in Classifieds System
Is there a way to force users to select the category for each advert they post?
I want the submit button to always popup with the category selection box rather than automatically select a category if the user is viewing a specific category. Users are accidentally posting adverts in wrong categories because all they see is the Submit new Advert button in classifieds and they don't think about where they are within the entire site (and I don't blame them).

These are excellent suggestions.
I love this app already, but there's always room to make it better.

Chris027 reacted to Jim M in How To Disallow Email Domains
I would suggest looking with your hosting provider why the email is being rejected, whether you're on a blacklist, etc... Blocking email domains from registering is not a good experience for potential users.
However, if you want to prevent people from registering with a certain email domain, you can do this with Ban Filters:

Chris027 got a reaction from Maxxius in Solution to Stopping Russian Contact Us SPAM
Hi Guys, I've been really annoyed with SPAM coming in through our Contact Us page. The one thing all of it has in common is the Russian language. I discovered that users of G Suite, myself included, can filter messages based on Russian characters in addition to many others. Here's the video I watched that shows how to do it. I tested it and it works beautifully.

Chris027 got a reaction from trananhls in IPS Outsmarting Itself With The Date
This is just feedback and more of a vent than anything. I really think IPS is outsmarting itself with the way dates are displayed. Can we please just display the time and date as the time and date rather than "Wednesday at 05:39 PM"
I was finally driven to post this because of a post on my site, where I couldn't find the quoted post easily. You can see the actual date of the quoted post is displayed. Excellent! It says "On 4/15/2020 at 2:21 PM." I should be able to scroll back through the 731 page topic to find this date and time. However, this isn't the case. When I scroll I see nothing but, "Wednesday at 05:39 PM," "Thursday at 04:31 PM," and "Thursday at 01:39 PM."
Now I have to do the math in my head to figure out the day of the week on April 15th, just to find the quoted post. Not sure why the little link / arrow is gone from the quote, but it is and I can't change that.
Anyway, it really seems like IPS is trying to be one step smarter than the world with the way dates are displayed, but in reality it's just annoying. IPS is doing the time and date math for us automatically by displaying "Thursday at 04:31 PM," but that isn't what we all want.
Love IPS software and support and the community. Just had to give feedback about this one that has bugged me forever.

Chris027 got a reaction from SC36DC in Support for Amazon AWS SES
I used Sendgrid based on the recommendation of the IPS staff and because support is built into IPS. Unfortunately the price of Sendgrid is 10x that of Amazon's SES simple email service.
I just switched over to Amazon SES and am stuck using the SMTP route rather than via the API because there isn't native support via IPS like there is for Sendgrid.
I'd like to ask for or vote for IPS adding support for Amazon SES, just like it supports Sendgrid.

I just edited core > front > global > sidebar to change "<div data-role='sidebarAd'>" to "<div data-role='sidebarAXd'>" and it appears to work.

Chris027 reacted to bfarber in ABOUT THIS BLOG Not removed When User Flagged As Spammer
Profile fields should be cleared out when flagging a member as a spammer, so long as you have the options to unapprove or delete the member's content selected.
Blogs will be cleaned up in 4.5 I've already confirmed.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I'll take a closer look at this for an upcoming release.

Chris027 got a reaction from SJ77 in ABOUT THIS BLOG Not removed When User Flagged As Spammer
I just discovered our spammers have been writing elaborate "About This Blog" pieces that aren't removed when we flag their accounts as spammers. All other posts etc... are removed appropriately.
Is this a bug, on purpose, or am I missing some option to remove this stuff?

When you upgrade, during the upgrade the upgrader will give you a notice about templates that have changed. But yes, they'll be overwritten.
Also, I'd advice that all your banners be called something like 87384747.jpg using ad, banner, etc in the names of the images will also flag the adblocker.
I always rename all of my advertisers banners.

Hi Bluto - I saw your edit of the template and just tried it. Works pretty good, but it's editing a template and every update risks overwriting it.

Exactly 2 years and 1 day... and nothing to help users make money.
It's not even a hard change but falls on deaf ears. You're going to have to change it yourself. IPS is obviously, not going to make the change. Maybe they're waiting for version 5. 🙄
