Maybe not the same as what you're doing, but I use this inside a global template, and it works.

Real life got in the way I have had a rough couple of months and been trying my best to get through it all, I have just updated it so it just needs to be approved by IPS, sorry for the delays I should be back properly here soon if all goes well. but for now I can just do what I can when I can, Sorry again 😀

TBH I don't think there is a strong enough community here (ironically) to work together on a labour of mutual love. That's why I suggested a paid project, which in itself hasn't attracted much interest.
It seems to me that most folks just want to solve 'their' problem and off they go. Which is a shame because I see mutual client cooperation as the only way some of these projects will get completed. Otherwise we are left with the Hobson's choice of wait for somebody else to solve our problems for us.
On a more positive note, based on my belief that there is a lot of reinventing the UX 'wheel' here, some of it buckled, we've been looking at developments on Apple News, Twitter and FB. Apple News in particular has really nice UX patterns on both its desktop and mobile apps. At first it looks very simple, but benefits from a light and open design, whilst keeping information itself tightly packed. This follows Google's material design pattern mentioned by me earlier, and sort of has us thinking, these guys have put $billions of user clinic tested UX into common usage - so why not learn from them and follow suit. So that's the direction we are headed for now.

We did away with our heavily customized forum skin and just went with the default, with our own header and footer added. Then I changed the colors of that skin to make a dark version. It required a few lines of code in custom.css and it's not quite finished, but the results are really good. This is the best our forum has ever looked, and it's also the lowest-maintenance its ever been.
The integrated GIFs, little changes like the rounded border around the reactions display, and other subtle improvements have made this update really nice. My community site feels lightweight, responsive, and alive. It definitely feels more like a "social community" than a boring old forum.

VPS are low-powered with limited/less resources. Instead, get a dedicated server with good specs at reasonable price Optimize the server security/speed for PHP, Nginx, PHP-FPM, MariaDB, etc Cloudflare Pro with optimized settings and WAF enabled Redis Web-API for outgoing Emails It isn't the issue with Cloudflare, so you're users will see the live updates without cache problem.
There's already a setting in IPS software to compensate that.

Our team is working on this, I don't have an exact ETA at this point, but we will update any info we have as soon as we have it.   I would refrain from the "lying in your face" comments though, that isn't very nice, nor appreciated.  p.s. you shouldn't have a blue banner on your site, if you are not up to date, then please upgrade!  😛
Edit/Add >  the best estimate we have  right now on this being approved is 3-4 weeks or sooner, sooner being the goal!  🙂

They sent me this email in reply...seems pretty generic and inapplicable to what Invision is doing, but just wanted to let ya'll know. @Rhett
Most new Zapier integrations are actually built by the companies/teams that created the apps themselves. Here’s how new services typically get added to Zapier:
    https://zapier.com/help/create/basics/request-to-add-a-new-app-to-zapier

Since you’re already a customer there, you also might encourage their team to add their app to Zapier via our developer platform:
    https://zapier.com/platform

Requests like this always carry a bit more weight when they come from customers rather than u

    Another reply from Zapier:
I checked if we had an Invision Community integration but couldn't find anything, so I assumed they weren't building it yet, sorry about that!

I checked our Partners approval queue and I can see that there is a private app for Invision Community waiting for a reply from our team.

I'll make sure to let them know the Invision Community customers are eager to get this out!

Let us know if you've any more questions!

Apologies again! Update your app to get the latest build and things should be good now. At the time of this post, the app was approved in the Play Store but still pending review in the iOS App Store, but should be available soon. Note that in both stores it's still in the beta process (Beta in the Play Store, TestFlight in the iOS App Store) so you won't see it unless you specifically opt in to the beta.

SammyS reacted to Rikki in Can't login to app
Apologies for the problems. I was finally able to diagnose the cause of the login issues, but unfortunately they cannot be fixed until 4.5.2 (and new app builds). That should be available in the next few days. That will solve both the failed logins and the 'invalid redirection uri' error.

I find it would be very interesting to have a live webinars provided IPS on dedicated topics (say 4.5 themes, 4.5 Pages etc.) including a space for Q/As. I would really benefit form being taken through various hidden corners of the IPS apps. The resulting videos could be made available here for offline watching and for technical support reference. Great for team bonding too :) What do you think?

SammyS reacted to Rikki in Just tried the mobile app... Yikes.
Thanks for the feedback - it's definitely early stages. We'll be looking to improve performance as time goes on, as well as add functionality. There's only one codebase for both iOS/Android, but that is indeed (currently) separate from the main product. It's very much 'work in progress' right now 🙂

It sound like the criticism is “if it’s not perfect and complete at the start, it’s pointless in general”.  They are just starting out with it!
Monetization, messages, more native app views and so on. I am sure it’s on the road map or will be put there if we need it.
By the way: you can already add more than just forums. I just added a Pages article section and it works just fine.

SammyS reacted to Rhett in [Question] What is the right balance of Plugins installed?
The pros to plugins and apps are they add some functionality
The con is you are adding queries, overhead, more ram usage, creating upgrade issues and slowing the site more with each one you add.
The key items to be aware of when using third party items, are as follows.
    1. Do you have to have it?  If not, less is more in terms of your time dealing with them.
    2. It's a good idea to do some homework on the author of the item, as all third party items are supported by the author only.
    3. Each time you upgrade, you first need to ensure that your third party items will work with the newest version you are upgrading too. (see #1)
    4. How busy is your site? compared to how many items you are adding, there is a balance on performance when you are adding many third party items, as each one will likely increase the resources needed to maintain proper performance. It's a balance based on your site, your third party items, and how busy your site is.
    5. A simple plugin can be fine on a normal traffic site, but put that on a site with 500-1500 online and it kills it, not many developers have a site with heavy traffic to test and optimize on, so this is a common issue on busy sites.
    6. There really is no one size fits all answer to these questions, it would be based on many factors, your hosting performance, your traffic, and how many third party items you are using.
From a support perspective, when I see a site with 20+ plugins and 20+ apps, we tend to get to know those people very well, as they spend half there time chasing down issues with third party items.
My opinion, keep it clean, keep it fast, and keep it simple, more is not always better in most cases.

SammyS reacted to opentype in WordPress and IPB integration ... why not?
My two cents: because bridging two independent software products is usually a bad idea. You have 3 pieces of software to deal with: Software A, software B and the third-party bridge. It might be called “seamless”, but it never really is. Anytime you install an update to software A or B things can break and you need to hope that the third-party offering the bridge can fix it in time. And since they are usually small companies, they might simply stop offering the bridge altogether in the future and then you are completely screwed.
Personally, I use either WordPress or the Invision Community Suite, never both. If I had a WordPress installation already, I would convert it all to Pages. After all, that’s the benefit of having a Community Suite. It being seamless is not just marketing claim in this case.

SammyS reacted to Rikki in When installing mobile app it should AUTO ADD your community
I don't think that'd be feasible because the app stores aren't going to pass on referrer info to the app to know which community you tapped from. Maybe some way of quickly adding a community would be a compromise? A 4 digit code or a QR code maybe?

    Hi 🙂

Great Plugin, first of all 🙂 I'm using the opt out option. Is it possible to add a city search option? From example, I'm from city "A". I see people near me. I would like to see people near another city ("B" , "C", "D" ) without change my location. "People Near Me" Site:

And a second request. To add compatibility with the "Friends" application made by @onlyME. It's about the "People you may know" option. It does not consider "Friends" and shows in the "People you may know" section those Users who are already Friends.
