It's actually less necessary there because we end up with one single image file (which the browser will download once and cache) for all default cover photos, and then we overlay it with a randomized color - thus you don't have 100 image files downloading, just one (and only if it hasn't already been downloaded).

I'm not sure I understand your last question. Your other software may (or may not) provide similar options, which it will "inform" browsers of as appropriate. Most of these details are output in the HTML page source for user agents to read and pick up on, and our software will do just that.
If you are using two different pieces of software, ultimately you may just need to add the information in two different places.

I didn't create this image, so it's probably not the exact color you're inquiring about, but this gives you an idea of how it works:

Here's an example of how the theme color may affect a device. Keep in mind that it is up to individual consumers (devices/user agents) how they will use these elements:
    https://developers.google.com/web/updates/2015/08/using-manifest-to-set-sitewide-theme-color
The background color is generally used as the background/splash screen color when launching your site from a saved home screen icon.
    https://developers.google.com/web/fundamentals/web-app-manifest/#splash-screen
Remember that each device can decide which elements it will read and support from the manifest, and how it will use those elements.
The Safari mask icon is a very specific element which requires an SVG. This image is not used anywhere else presently, except for the Safari mask icon. It's not so much about making it "Apple-only", but rather using an SVG here is a requirement of using the feature in general.
    https://developer.apple.com/library/archive/documentation/AppleApplications/Reference/SafariWebContent/pinnedTabs/pinnedTabs.html
As the Blog notes, we create Microsoft's special "browserconfig.xml" file to better support Windows-based devices as well.
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/dn320426(v=vs.60)
It's interesting to note that we can build off of this functionality to better support Windows Live Tiles (where you get live updates of a site right in your start menu, or on your home screen for devices with more enhanced live tile support (XBox for instance).

The contact form typically sends an email to one or more email addresses, and has no facility (presently) to be "held for approval". It is also important to ensure that legitimate users who may be getting flagged as a potential spammer still have some way to contact the administrator.
We do understand the concerns and are researching potential solutions, but it's not quite as simple as it may seem.

I use Pages too for 2 others database ("contest" & "deals" with different design). I think your Pages is very extraordinary and members need it for more. That's why I'm happy to use your ips package on my site and if I say that it's because before I'm newbie  with  Pages but you can do many without to be a professional in coding html (I just learn many messages on your community, your help guides, download package on marketplace just for understand how work something and after I just try, try, try, try and again try different thing for to do it). 😉

Pages for me too. Very easy and cool to use pages in my community. I have do a Movies & Tv Shows database :
Listing tv show (with 2 blocks "top 3" and "just add") :

    record display :

And block forum (carousel with 10 items)

Pages is very powerful with infinite possibility, the only limit is your imagination.

The video below shows how to use pages another way, to register on mountain summits in my area. There is about 7000 people living here, and we have 400 active members. In one year.
It's a lot of competition. I have not seen this functionality used in this app before and like to mention it here.

After 10 months of testing, customizing, learning all the new stuff (settings etc.), some days ago I converted my lovely vBulletin 3.x forum to IPS 4.3. (11 years old, 450.000 posts)
I was really scared during the whole conversion process and every single difference from the norm resulted in small panic attacks.
IPS Staff @Daniel F 's support during this time was a real life saver, he has given so much above and beyond his duty. He is a real, big asset IPS has to offer,
Well, so far my members are loving it. There were no real complaints, except one user was asking if he still can change the topic view to have the newest posts first like it was possible in vB. Another user complained about missing profile comments and post attachments. Hopefully IPS staff can recover this data soon. Maybe I did something wrong in the conversing process. One user complained about the search function. I explained to him how it works.
To help the members getting a good experience I created some video tutorials about new functions. Right now the overall activity on site is still some quiet but I hope I can revive my forum to new spheres soon.  Some more work have to be done like moving forum parts into pages and smaller changes here and there.
But for now I am really satisfied with the situation at the whole. Running my community in the last years was really boring, it didn't makes fun and I let things go down.
The new IPS forum changed things a lot. Now I LOVE IT to browse my forum and enjoy it so much how it works, how it feels and how it looks. It is an absolute fantastic new experience I can't describe in words. The same feeling was there when I started with forums on vB 3.5.  No, not the same, now it is way better. My new Invision forum is so cool I could play with 24 hours without a break.
So many features and so lovely implemented, thank you Invision Team for this great job.
The only bad experience was with the plugins and applications, maybe 30% contain more or less bugs. This gave me a lot of headaches and sometimes too much anger.
But hey,  I want to close with a positive feeling. IPS is the leader and I love it.

You either have to look into MySQL replication if you want this automated, or you have to take a backup of your database to import for your test site, and then periodically refresh this backup manually.

I just found this out awhile back by pure accident, it is an awesome and powerful feature by IP. I am running a wiki powered by TikiWiki, and I have an IP Block displayed on our wiki. You can see it in action at http://thepatriotwoodworker.org/blogpost1-The-What-s-It-Project-Introduction
It resides under the header title " Current What's It". That block is actually a block I have on our IP Forum, you can see that same block at https://thepatriotwoodworker.com/
When I update the IP Block, the block updates as well at our wiki site. Just thought I'd share a living example of the genius of it.

For me the number one reason for members to subscribe is that they get access to discount codes for one of the largest outdoorshops in my country. I have had a discountcodes since 2013 that give them 20% discount on everything in that large shop.
And then I have an agreement with the outdoorshop that I get a percentage from what all the members are buying via tracking codes.
In that way I win in both ends. Members need to see that they gain something to pay.
