Invision Community Blog

Our take on managing successful online communities

Matt

How to use Invision Community content in Wordpress in under 5 minutes

If you've already got a Wordpress website, and have recently added an Invision Community, you might want to show recent posts or topics right on your Wordpress site.

You might think this involves complex programming and custom themes, but thanks to some Pages magic, it's a very simple task that you can do in under 5 minutes.

This very short video walks you through the process.

If you'd prefer a written step by step, then head over to our help guides.

As you can see, the whole process is very quick and very easy. Adding the latest topics on your site is a great way to drive discussion into your Invision Community.

Let us know if you have any questions!

As a reminder to everyone, "InvisionPress" got more powerful in 4.3 with the oAuth 2 integration built directly into IPS which allows your members to login to both sites.  It's a huge leap to combine your Invision community with the worlds most popular CMS platform.  You can share members and content across both platforms now. Make sure you upgrade to 4.3 to take advantage of the new oAuth 2 feature with WP.

Major bromance of Matt Mecham + Matt Mullenweg going on here.

Here I am hoping that Pages would be advanced so that people can start removing wordpress and move to Pages all together. 🙂

That’s not constructive if you don’t explain what that means, e.g. ask for specific features. What should IPS do? Copy every wordpress feature in the hopes that what you want might be in there?

By the way: If I could easily affort it, I would replace any WordPress site I still run with Pages, since it actually already is more advanced in several aspects.

Sometimes I think so but then I remember that IPS cutted off the IP.Chat. And so I would be always worried that IPS will one day just shut down Pages.

I don't think the'd do so in this case. Chat was an addition and required use of their server. Besides, chats evolved to discord, facebook messenger, and plethora of available solutions.

Pages is an integral part of the Suite and if you self-host doesn't require anything additional from Invision like Chat did. Also look at Marketplace, more people are starting to write templates for it so I suppose it's getting more popular...

It is. You can replace Wordpress with Invision Community.

However, for people already using Wordpress, this is a huge ask. Some have invested a lot of time and money into their websites and may be reluctant to change immediately.

This video really demonstrates the power of Pages, not how you should stick with Wordpress. You can use these blocks on any website that allows HTML blocks.

I just found this out awhile back by pure accident, it is an awesome and powerful feature by IP. I am running a wiki powered by TikiWiki, and I have an IP Block displayed on our wiki. You can see it in action at http://thepatriotwoodworker.org/blogpost1-The-What-s-It-Project-Introduction

It resides under the header title " Current What's It". That block is actually a block I have on our IP Forum, you can see that same block at https://thepatriotwoodworker.com/

When I update the IP Block, the block updates as well at our wiki site. Just thought I'd share a living example of the genius of it.

You would tweak the CSS via your own custom.css file in Invision Community. If you're stuck with this, please post in peer to peer technical support or theme assistance

Great guide.

I tried to follow your steps and... in the wordpress it is not working but in the simple "clean" html page works.

It seems as the wordpress doesn't recognise the code copied from block as the proper command to create iframe

How to check why this is not working in wordpress?
