The version you are running of MariaDB 10.1.44 is a mix of mysql versions 5.6 and 5.7, it's perfectly fine, however you can also upgrade to MariaDB 10.2, 10.3, or 10.4Ā as well. Which are all drop in replacements for mysql 5.7.Ā

If you can use MySQL 8 feel free to upgrade right to it. I use it locally with 4.5 and it is fully supported as of 4.5.

    Hello,
Can I ask what is the recommended MySQL version for InvisionĀ 4.5? I am currently usingĀ v5.5.5-10.1.44-MariaDB-0+deb9u1Ā Is it recommended? (PHP 7.3)
    Many thanks..

Can anyone shed any light on the benefits of using MariaDB? I have read it performs faster but is that the extend of the pluses to using it?

Thanks for that @Paul E., wasn't aware. Any db prep I need to do if I move from mysql 5.6 to MariaDB 10.3 or is it just update and drop in? WHM gives me the option, just wondering if I update the server to go this route with MariaDB, what else do I need to do. AnythingĀ with IPS config need to be changed/updated?

MariaDB was forked from MySQL by the original creator to create MariaDB and the MariaDB Foundation. Many of the original MySQL developers moved to the fork, and most major linux distributions include MariaDB. It was created directly followingĀ concerns whenĀ Sun Microsystems, who owned the project, was being bought byĀ Oracle and, Oracle had longstanding reputations surroundingĀ licensing and their approach to open source projects.
Here's a presentation from the founder of MySQL that goes into the rationale:

What nonsense, just curious. Iā€™m not up to speed and havenā€™t been following either to be honest. Is there more support behind MariaDB?Ā

No Oracle nonsense with MariaDB. Otherwise, functionally equivalent, drop in replacementĀ for our purposes.

I've been running MySQL for years and there are various topics on here regarding those who are using MariaDB. I just upgraded all my sites to 4.5 and moved to PHP 7.4 while still on MySQL 5.6, now EOL. I'm inclined to just move to MySQL 5.7 and call it a day, but was wondering what everyone's thoughts were about moving to MariaDB 10.3 instead. Any real benefits?Ā
I've added a poll, just wondering what everyone uses. What does IPS use for their hosted customers?

ImageMagick is used by IPS to handle uploads of images, resizing them, compressing them and creating thumbnails.
Why not give the community admin the option to use ImageMagick to convert uploaded images by users to WebP?
As long as WebP is now accepted by IPS 4.6, I imagine that would be very simple to add this feature to the suite.
I am havingĀ a great experience converting the images that I post on my community to WebP. Same quality and much less bytes than JPG or PNG or GIF.

No, Mailbouncer does not interact with the email error logs at all. I would suspect you have a large number of emails that failed to send and the update query is taking a long time. Invision would be the best to help you with this.

There's currently no option to set icons being maskable or not.
And IPB, by default doesn't set the maskable attribute.

Google Lighthouse Audit as such doesn't rate the PWA setup as optimized.

Would be great to either set it by default in the manifest file, or add an option for us to set the maskable attritbute ourselfs.

Of course, this isn't just about Google Lighthouse Rating improvement, but it also allows us to mask the icon šŸ˜‰

This relies on the maximum image dimensions to display and maximum image dimensions to store in the AdminCP. Use the live search to look for "images" or similar to find the options.

Browser side resizing is far from best practice,Ā this puts all the work on the client and slows the page load time. The correct image size for the viewport should be returned from the server.Ā  As a minimum IPB should natively serve webp images and preferably to have integration with an image CDN such as https://www.imgix.com/Ā orĀ https://cloudinary.com/
