  1. My site is not currently live yet so I'll PM you with some login details 🙂
  2. Hi @TAMAN In the grid view the forums are displayed 4 across per row, the width of the main container - how would I change this to 3 across per row, the width of the main container? With thanks
  3. This is a stock reply that most shared hosts send out because any changes they make affect the whole server which may (that is a big 'may') affect other users on the server; however they have to allow for those who 'may' use them. If you copy the php.ini file I posted into your admin directory and the warning goes away, then you can use the php.ini file in all folders. A word of warning, putting the php.ini file solely in the admin folder is not recommended as that just removes the warning and will not give the added protection to all folders that the system will access in use. Your alternative to copying the php.ini file to all folders (providing it works on the server your site is on) would be to change your hosting to a VPS or dedicated server where you have root access and then you can make those changes unrestricted. It is a minefield out there for VPS servers (dedicated are expensive) as to who offers the most reliable hosting. Good luck in your endeavours and I hope that you can get this sorted.
  4. If you just uploaded to the root directory and nothing changed then the php.ini file is not recursive - so, if your provider can't help you need to add the php.ini file to all folders, that is a monumental pain but a penalty we have to pay for using shared hosting; if you're like me, and can't afford your own server or not savvy or brave enough to use a VPS (like me lol), then shared is all that's left available and we have to move mountains to get these functions disabled properly lol.
  5. I asked my host to do this for me but they were unable to do this and suggested using the php.ini method; it was something to do with the way their servers are set up and some other users on the server may require some or all of those extensions - I actually found this quite strange as if they are designated as dangerous you would assume they would be disabled by default. @marco2306 can ask, but because he's using shared hosting he may be directed to using the php.ini file. My own host, Ionos, are less than helpful in these instances so I had to figure it out for myself. Some hosts are more accommodating but always be prepared for being disappointed. The other problem is whether the php.ini file is recursive or not and if not then that php.ini file needs to be in every folder - and there are a LOT of them lol 🙂
  6. You create a php.ini file and upload it to your server; I've attached the php.ini file that I used so you can use that. However, there is a caveat to this and it really depends on your host as to whether a single php.ini file is applied to all folders, if it's not then you will need to upload the php.ini file to all folders for it to be fully effective. I used a copy-file-to-multiple-folders script to do this for me before I uploaded all the IPS files to the server; even using that is only partially effective, so you may want to ask your host if the php.ini is recursive. php.ini
  7. The copy and paste is not showing the image, but you can click on the link.
  8. I've done a mock-up of what I was referring to earlier - I basically used the Google console to move elements around and delete others. The items pointed from the arrow I was not able to move, but if they appear on the same line that the arrow points to that would free up some additional head room.
  9. The title of the topic could be combined into the first post - giving it a header and some direction as to what the topic is about. It does look a bit odd on reflection having something appear as it does 🙂
  10. @Adriano Faria good catch - that should sort you out @GolfSpy STUDque
  11. You can use this plugin to change post authors - I've used it and it works great. Not sure about changing time stamps, but you can search the marketplace for a plugin if one exists.
  12. Link please - I've looked through your contributions and can't seem to find it, unless you have not made it available yet 🙂 I agree, for those who have been nurtured on forums most things come easily, but if you are attempting to open a new forum and are looking to get the Social Media savvy bunch on board then there is a real need for some kind of tour of the main functions they need to be aware of.
  13. This has already been done in Xenforo by a contributor called Dadparva for 1.x ans 2.x versions and it is incredibly flexible and works in any theme or customisation; you basically decide what to highlight and add your own descriptions; I'm pretty sure that something can be done in a similar way for IPS, it just needs the right developer with some forethought and imagination. https://xenforo.com/community/resources/xp-tours-and-hints.7483/ This could be a deal breaker in encouraging signups for those who are entrenched in social media and are not confident enough to use forums. I did a survey on Twitter and added this to another post, I can't remember which one and the result was this. Those percentages of confusing and don't like are quite revealing - so a tour guide that holds their hands first time around would be very useful.
  14. This was a generalised question asked on Twitter in terms of viewing 'websites' as opposed to just forums and it was interesting to see the variance in choice. Whether this is something that can be viewed more precisely and intensely in terms of further surveys to collect the information on people's preferences both in general and specific environments, is perhaps worth following up on. It can also help drive developers to be more careful in their choice of colour combinations to avoid some of the suspect outcomes in terms of contrast variance. I must add that the number of respondents was not as many as would have been preferred and it's probably unclear as to how those percentages may have shifted had the response group been higher; which gives ground to my earlier comment about further surveys being undertaken to better understand preferences. This in no way implies that lighter themes be made obsolete as it will always come down to individual preference as which is more desirable; however, it may encourage thought into providing, as some developers have adopted, a method of having the same theme available in both light and dark colours with the ability to switch the lights on or off.
  15. @Patrick Ewing Here is a quick draft - if you like this I'll supply you with a transparent png file that you can add - you can give me size parameters in pixels and I'll adjust accordingly. If you want colors changing let me know what you want.
  16. Can you provide a link to your site so the theme can be visualised - I may be able to help you out but it's not so easy to design to match your theme if we can't see it lol.
  17. Have tested this on Edge Version 80.0.361.111 (Official build) (64-bit) and Chrome Version 81.0.4044.92 (Official Build) (64-bit) and can confirm that the carousel is not working for me either; again this just for info, not a complaint.
  18. That's what I thought - as @Jimi Wikman stated above you would require a plugin for this and I'm not 100% sure if one is available to do everything that you want but it may be possible to put something together with a variety of plugins but I'm guessing still not giving you exactly what you want. I'd put this to the developers who are willing to take on such a project and see what they can do and what they will charge.
  19. I created a home page for my site using the Pages app - it fulfils a lot of what you're asking for and there is probably more you can add depending on exactly what it is you want, but I'm guessing you want it more personalised for a single member when they log in - is that correct? You can see my home page @ https://startrekgate.co.uk and I imagine a lot of people using IPS have similar homepages bringing in different content.
  20. I can empathise, but like everyone else waiting for 4.5 it would do more damage to release it now if it's not ready to go. So, whilst it's unfortunate you can't make good of the bad situation we're in now, it would be worse still if a release now would introduce unknowns that could ruin your site altogether. Just make the most of what you have and do the best you can with the current resources available - patience is a virtue that brings its own rewards. I was very impatient at one time and things could never happen fast enough, now I just wait patiently and as they say, all good things come to those that wait.
  21. For some reason attempting to add Terminator: Dark Fate was throwing up a template error - none of the other entries I'd added to my movies forum have had this effect. Could it be something in the MDB way it's listed; it's only this one movie doing this. All good so far: And then this happens: Any ideas?
  22. @batarjal any news on the above bug?
  23. @batarjal This doesn't hide titles: Titles still remain after selecting this - could this be a missing line of code to turn the titles off? With thanks
  24. You're the man - all sorted; many thanks much appreciated.
  25. @opentype Hi Ralf is there anyway to view the category items in order of last updated? That is without having to resort to using the sort menu option. At present the items are displayed within each category as they are added; for example the first added is displayed first, whereas I would like to have the last added as first. I got this to work on the main index page by using the database sorting order as 'last updated' but no such option exists in the category section. The reason I'm asking this is that when someone enters one of the categories, they would have to scroll to the bottom to see new entries and they could be missed if a user is too lazy to scroll (you understand how you have to lead them to what you want them to see lol). With thanks
