In your opinion. The right would add a setting and let the admin choose. 👎

I've been experimenting with the Gallery app, considering a purchase in order to enhance my current Core + Pages installation.
Please implement the following QOL improvements, and I'd be very happy to pay for the app:

    Shared Galleries for Post Editor
Allow the ability to use images uploaded to a Gallery Album (or category of albums), set at the Usergroup level. As it currently stands, only the user that directly uploaded an image to an album can later access the same image when creating a post/CMS Page/similar.
The user who originally uploaded images to an album called "Shared Art" can then go to a CMS Page/Article, click edit, then head to 'Insert Existing Attachment' and see this:
Admin (original uploader of Gallery images) view:

However, another user (let's call them 'TestUser') who is in a Staff/Moderator group, who I might want to be able to also edit CMS Pages and insert the same images, currently cannot do this:
AnotherUser (moderator usergroup user who should also have access) view:

Please add a new permission, something like this:

This way, a user in the group can access images uploaded to that album (or category of albums) as if they uploaded it themselves.
If the "Insert Existing Attachment" location is not a logical place to set such a feature (because you would only expect user-uploaded images to exist in this menu), then please create a new option that does make this logical.

Post Editor Dropdown Menu for Galleries
In addition to the above idea, it would be great to enhance the discoverability/filtering of images within the Existing Attachment menu in post editor too. Please see the below concept; a simple dropdown box can help filter and sort images and allow users to quickly fetch the item they need. This will be useful for the above 'Shared Gallery' feature as well as solo Gallery users who just need an extra method of filtering the non-shared images they uploaded on their account.

Hooks for CMS/Pages, Custom Fields & Album Tagging
I want to tie certain Galleries into specific records in the CMS/Pages app. There appears to be no simple way to do this - there's no ability to set custom fields for galleries (thus creating a unique ID/hook in order to tie a Gallery to a Record ala Database Relationship/Reciprocal Items method). There doesn't even seem to be a way to set Tags or Prefix Tags to Albums (only on images themselves - unless I am missing something). The opportunities for coders to extend the capabilities of Gallery in the same way they can Pages seems extremely limited, and it would be great to allow closer integration with CMS using various custom field calls and cross-linking relationships with Page Databases.

    Smaller QOL Improvements
Things like being able to rename uploaded items (it's every admin's nightmare having to see image13362363556.png on their server...), crop an uploaded image via the Image Tools features, and perhaps create custom Record Images for CMS/Pages from images in Gallery (as a cropped copy so as not to modify the original uploaded image) would be lovely as well, if they could be looked into (unless they exist already and I haven't seen them during my demo test with the app).

If these were considered, acknowledged and implemented you'd get a sale from me, for sure. 🙂

I totally agree with this, other clients have the same concern as well...
I developed a little plugin to overcome this by allowing admins to select the default search area, not sure if IPS will approve it or not (Now awaiting MP approval).

    Nope. I'm still on 4.6.12.1 and so I didn't update any add-ons.

Claudia999 reacted to Chris027 in Is there a way to default search bars to "everywhere"?
I'd love the ability to change this. 99.9999% of my community members have no clue there is even different applications to search. They will search from wherever they are on the site, and the results they receive will be, what they believe, are definitive. However, they could be far less than definitive.

I think the real solution to this is to give us the flexibility to set it how it best fits our communities. One size never fits all.

Pretty sure this is a (IPS) caching issue. I’ve seen this for other block types too.
The code in the template is okay. It will actually remove the profile links for guests, when guests are not allowed to see profiles. But the problem is: If the cached version is generated after a member(!) saw the block, then guests will also see that same cached HTML code including those links. And once the block cache time is up, the next version of the block may or may not have those links. You never know.

Thanks for your answer. But I can‘t find a Solution in this guide.
I have removed permissions via modules, yes. Now guests don‘t get active links to user profiles. That‘s the intended behaviour.
But in „Similar content“ block, there are the links to user profiles still active. How can I achieve that there links to user profiles also aren‘t active?

It may not be realistic but that's what they do.  We have to remember that these are ordinary people who are 'used' to just typing in what they are looking for.  As @Markus Jung noted people are used to Google and YT, WP and SM etc, and just type and click/tap.  Attention spans are generally at a low eb for regular use items and to 'expect' people to notice is as unrealistic as expecting that they do notice.  We have to put ourselves in the same shoes as users, not admins and not experts at using the system.  A search bar implies you can search the site - if you want to drill down then we need to educate users that they can drill down, if they want.
An example that I have come across many, many times with people I know (including clients) is with Google search.  Not one of them knew that by clicking on 'tools' that they can have more options to drill down further depending on what they are searching for.

My point being that 'expecting' people to notice this (when it has never been that way before) is expecting too much.  Over time users who visit regularly may notice and get used to it, but the casual passer-by will probably not, and that can cost you a member.  Search 'Everywhere' should be the starting point and then let a user know that there are other options available by making them more noticeable (push it to them).

The Guest Signup Widget in my community is sometimes empty. So the widget doesn't appear and I have fewer registrations. That's not so fine. Do you or anyone have an idea what could be the cause?

Yes, English must be available for IPS Support 😉  And yes, content is set for both languages.
The widget disappears after a few days or weeks.

Both search types (‘specific area’ or ‘everywhere’) are equally common. Whatever the default is, someone would complain that it can lead to problems. But I think the biggest issue isn’t the choice of the default type, it’s users not being sure what they get when they start the search. That would lead to frustration, when the results are too few or too high because the users doesn’t know where the search is being performed. But with the current implementation, it’s rather obvious. The area is shown next to the search term and the drop down has lost all its previous clutter and now only shows the active selection. So, I think this works as well as it could.

Or (and in my opinion even better) make it default to search everywhere. If you get too many results, you can then narrow the search in the next step.

Please add to the announcements the possibility to display them regularly - for example "every Friday".
For example: We have a weekly chat, and every friday I have to set the new date to the announcement and to enable the announcement again. In Calendar the pick of regularly events is implemented, it should be similar in announcements.

I like the simplicity. Is there a way to re-arrange the order or does that go by apps order? It would also be great if there was a custom search to add lets say a downloads category, specifically.

Will the app be marked as compatible with IPS 4.7? Yes, at some point - it's not just going to be a compatibility update but will include some additional features (no comment at this time on what those are)
This is from the description content of the listing:

As you can see, it supports:
Forums (so topics/posts) Caledar (so events/comments/reviews) Pages (so database records/comments/reviews. If you don't want it enabled in Forums, then don't enable it - if you just want to use it in Pages databases, then go ahead.
Also, please define what you mean by Pages "things" so that I can clarify my answer further, if necessary.

No, events from club calendars will only show in that club. They would not show in the main calendar

Claudia999 reacted to CheersnGears in Hump Day: what are some of your community pain points?
My pain points are largely in creating/editing articles.  I use Pages largely as a news and reviews page and the forums piggyback off of that.   I have no trouble finding content to create, for my niche it is a veritable firehose to stand in front of, but getting it created in Pages with the right format is tedious.
    I'd love:
a better method for placing pictures, setting alt text, setting captions. More options for what a gallery looks like when I place a link to one. See @opentype's SuperReviews as one example of what I'd like to do, but with the Gallery system. Multi-column formatting Some sort of widget or block system where I can place an Ad widget inline with the text. Compatibility with Grammerly - Seriously, it's a pain to write it in Word so the article gets checked with Grammerly and then cut-paste-format into Pages. A lot of my slow-down with generating content.  There is so much of it everyday that I have to pick and choose, but getting it posted is painful.
I'd argue that the forum in IPS software is largely feature complete and any improvements would be just slightly incremental.  Pages, Gallery, Clubs, is where attention is sorely needed.
I said here many years ago that IPS has the potential to be the paid Wordpress beater if Pages was improved. I still see that potential.
