Sonya* got a reaction from Michael Collins in "List-unsubscribe" in the email header
Users do not always understand the difference. They mark emails as spam because it is easier and faster in comparison to unsubscribe.
Amazon SES allows you to have 10% of bounces before your account is at risk. But it allows only 0.5% of spam complaints before you've got issues with them. The account reputation is not so much about invalid mails, but about valid emails that have marked you as spam.
You can clean your database from invalid emails. But there is no service to clean users who have marked your emails as spam. Unsubscribing with one click could at least lower the complaint rate. 😉

Sonya* got a reaction from Thomas P in Will blocking guests from viewing threads also block search engines?
It sounds like a doorway technique, called cloaking. You will be penalized by search engines if you try it.

Sonya* reacted to stoo2000 in Bounce management with Amazon SES
I would recommend only sending bulk mails to members that have visited your site in the last 1 year (2 years at the absolute most). Otherwise, you're likely to get many spam complaints from working addresses. AWS will suspend your ability to use SES if there are a lot of spam complaints or bounces.

Sonya* got a reaction from Joel R in Empty custom field values in clubs
In core->front->clubs->view:
{{if isset( $fieldValues[ "field_" . $field->id ] )}} does show the field caption even if its value is empty. If the check would be:
{{if !empty( $fieldValues[ "field_" . $field->id ] )}} then it would not show the fields on the club page if they are not filled.

Sonya* reacted to teraßyte in Broken link in AdminCP
While the link is now visible, the suggested robots.txt file in the guide is outdated.
For example:
Profiles are not disallowed anymore The tags page is not included The cookie page is not included The embed controller is not included -

Sonya* reacted to David N. in Changes to traffic control
That's fine, however I was first confused when I saw that and thought I was victim of a hack or a phishing scam (the black line at the bottom looks like a text field). The problem is that the look of that form is completely unfamiliar, and it looks like one of those fake ads that have fake buttons like "Submit" or "Verify" etc to make you click them by mistake.
I feel like that the look of that form should match the branding of my site: keep the site header, use the same font I'm using on the rest of the site, same button as in the forum etc... just like the Invision Community Alert pop-ups.

We are aware of an issue there, and this has been reported internally.

Sonya* reacted to Randy Calvert in Using same db for both livev forumn and dev forum
If you share the database, anything you do in dev happens to prod which defeats the purpose of separating them in the first place.
If you’re going to do that just save yourself the effort of setting up the dev site entirely and just do whatever you want in production.

Sonya* reacted to Adriano Faria in Something has changed in the AdvertisementLocations?
A suggestion, if I may. To enhance communication and avoid situations like that, it would be helpful to create a topic in Developer Connection every time a new version will break something.
For example:
At least to me, it isn't clear that will break all apps without extensions.json. It may be to others, but it isn't to me.
That would help the 3rd-party dev community to update their resources during the beta stage.
Thank you.

Sonya* reacted to Princess Celestia in Split up the "Bypass word and link filters?" group-level setting
Please consider splitting the "Bypass word and link filters?" group-level setting (it's under Content > Moderation when viewing a group's settings in the ACP) into two separate settings for bypassing the word and link filters. This is the one:
"Bad words" and "bad links" are conceptually different in how they can harm a community so coupling them together in this setting seems weird, to say the least, and is limiting.
In my site's case, I'm using the link filter as a spam control measure for new users until they "graduate" to a more privileged group but wish to enforce the word filter across all groups. I was dismayed to learn that this is impossible - enabling the link filter for new users meant giving up the seemingly unrelated word filter for everyone else.

Sonya* got a reaction from Maxxius in Non ASCII characters in URLs (transliteration) yes or no?
This. When I see something go to _https://example.com/2-%E3%82%A2 it looks like spam for me. It looks dirty, it looks not serious for me. I cannot read, what this %E3%82%A2 mean, something harmful, something inappropriate? I believe it makes no difference for SEO though as Wikipedia uses it.

Sonya* got a reaction from ArashDev in Translit URL
It works for any language. You enter every Persian character you would like to replace with their Latin equivalent (see Plugin settings). E. g.
ب=b
پ=p
ت=t
...
One by one for every character you would like to replace.

Sonya* got a reaction from Ibai in IPB as a LMS
Charles, if we could have actions buttons in Pages that are connected to a piece of code (like PHP blocks) then it would solve countless things. Think of:
How often the button has been clicked Mark something as "finished" Add sub-record to database relationship field via modal window right in the parent record. Add to favorites Hidden download to prevent hot links and so on... I have created a number of hooks to solve those things. But they are not reusable, requiring the field key and database ID. And they cannot be edited by admin on the fly like PHP widgets.

Sonya* got a reaction from SJ77 in Elasticsearch on Plesk/Docker
Can somebody help me to understand how Elasticsearch should be configured on the Plesk Server with Docker extension?
The goal: using Elasticsearch for multiple IPS communities.
Questions:
1. In AdminCP, I have to configure Elasticsearch Index Name (It is important to use different index names if multiple Invision Community installations are using the same Elasticsearch instance). In Plesk I see this:
Where Elasticsearch Index Name is configured? Is it a container name, volume mapping or environment variable? 😵
2. Right now, Elasticsearch does not run. The error is:
at least one of [discovery.seed_hosts, discovery.seed_providers, cluster.initial_master_nodes] must be configured What of these variable must be configured and what values should be used if multiple communities are supposed to use elasticsearch.
Thank you!

Sonya* got a reaction from DawPi in Force Guests to Pay First then create an invoice
This is not about guests, but about how IPS is designed.
See the page: _https://irosacea.org/subscriptions/ When you click on one of the Subscribe now buttons, you will be redirected to the Checkout page. The URL of the Checkout page contains the invoice number in its URL, e. g. _https://irosacea.org/checkout/XXX/ and this invoice (XXX) is already created before you even start to fill out the Checkout form.
So it is not that users submit invoices without filling in the information. They will not be able to proceed without filling out the information. This is the IPS that creates the invoice as soon the page is just shown to the user. It is just too early.
If a user is just curious about what happens after clicking on Subscribe now, the invoice is already generated for being curious. Theoretically, the bots can generate invoices as well. Just by crawling all URLs on the site.
