When a member makes a post that is subject to moderator approval - it would be nice if this post appeared to the user, but stayed hidden to all other groups that cannot see such a post.

That way the user would know it has been made and secondly could edit the post prior to it's approval (subject to his editing rights on the forum)

It could then be marked as awaiting approval.

The biggest complaint I'm getting from members about version 3 is the way image attachments load up. In version 3 we have 2 options:

    Lightbox

Disabled Lightbox. Images open in the same window i.e. you are redirected to the image.

Members are requesting the old system from 2.3.7 where images opened in a new window. This then allowed several images to be open at the same time so that comparisons could be made. With Lightbox enabled you can't save images unless you do a hack of the code. I would like to see a range of options for dealing with image attachments just as the gallery has.

The first public beta release of the new IP.Chat service is now available to all active IP.Board and IPS Community Hosting customers. If you are not familiar with the chat service the original announcement is quoted at the bottom of this post.

    Notes

This is a beta release so there will be issues. Please keep an eye on this topic, or even use the Watch this topic option, as we will update this topic when there are updates or other known issues. The primary purpose of this beta is to test the basic functionality of chat: message exchange. The message exchange is handled by IPS servers so we are doing load testing during this beta. We have lots of new features and options planned and feel free to post suggestions for the service but please keep in mind, for the purpose of this beta, we are not after huge list of feature requests. The goal is to make a good, stable platform for basic chat that we can add new features to at a later date. The only package available right now is the Free package option. This package will be limited to 5 online users when the service goes live but for the beta phase it is unlimited. We may do server maintenance or shut down the service now and then for other purposes. If it will be down for an extended period we will post in this topic. Don't use the chat in a critical environment as it will probably go up and down as we test. The chat does not work with Opera browser.

    How to Order

Installation Original IP.Chat service announcement:Login to the Client Area and go to New Purchase. Find IP.Chat: Free under Invision Power Board Optional Addons and click Buy Now. Order as normal, the package is free so you will not be charged. (if the system prompts you for payment information just skip/ignore that prompt and go back to the Client Area home page - we are working on fixing that error) Go to Your Downloads and download the IP.Chat package. Go to Your Purchases and select the IP.Chat package. To use IP.Chat it must be associated with an IP.Board or IPS Community Hosting package. Select the package to associate with and you will then see a chat service key appear.

If you are not on IP.Board 3.0.4, upgrade to it. Important: Login to your IP.Board AdminCP and then go to Manage Applications & Modules. Look for a Chat Services application already installed. If you see it, click the drop down menu and then Remove Application (if you don't then ignore this step). This will delete the old chat services application which was for integration with Parachat and Addonchat. Of course, if you are using those services, do not remove that application but you will not be able to use IP.Chat until you do. Upload all files contained within the upload directory of the IP.Chat zip file. This is just like installing any other application in IP.Board. Go to Manage Applications & Modules in your IP.Board AdminCP. Select the Install link next to the Chat Services application. Once the install is complete you can go to My Apps and select Chat Services. Just enter the chat service key found under Your Purchases in the Client Area to activate.

Both of them where in phpbb3 also. We used it a lot since we also have private forums depending on group and 99% of the gaming forums have private section. Now its nightmare for admin to move each user from ACP. I would personally like to see those features in core IPB itself without any hooks or mod's.

Yes, the post "edit history" was a good feature of VB. You could compare before and after versions of the post.

That said... I'd rather do without it if it meant I had to go back to VB! ;)

    OK guys,
I am currently running a vbulletin forum with a professional design set. My first and foremost worry about moving over to invision was the design of my forum. My thought behind this is that it is going to be a big enough move over to invision as it stands without the fact that the forum will look completely different.

NOW, bare in mind I only purchased invision less than 24 hours ago. I have almost managed to duplicate the look of my forum with only a very very basic knowledge of CSS and some knowledge of photoshop. How have I done this? I would seriously urge you to have a good read through the topic on this forum http://www.smartestcomputing.us.com/index.php?showtopic=37422

This tutorial, I would print out and have at the side of you throughout your transition. Its simple, and it works...... Dont worry about your skinning guys. IMO its easier than vbulletin 3.8 and at the end of the day, you would have to learn 4.0 anyways.

Fairly low at the moment - depends upon time of day, maybe a backup was happening on the server?

Never had to really wait though - so has never appeared slow.

Cleancut doesn't seem very 'Clean' or 'Well cut' anymore...

I really, really don't like how there is a huge space just for the ip.board logo. I also don't like a whole other row for the search and signed in as functions...

Couldn't it be more like this:

Now that version 3.0.2 is released with the Spam Monitoring Service, and CCS and IP.Subscriptions final are just around the corner, I'm guessing that you already got some resources to put for the sake of the next major IP.Board release (3.1).

So here are my top suggestions for the next major IP.Board release (Sorted by my own priority. Ease of implementing is considered as well):
    1. Improve multi-language support (also for RTL languages!!)
Since these 2 features are already implemented in the beta stage I put them as a top priority features request:
    2. Bring back the recently activity feature (from beta).
    3. Bring back the AJAX search (from beta).
    4. Better addo-ons integration with IP.Board.
    5. Show who repped the post.
    6. Show who repped the user (reps history such as display name history feature in user profile page) + who the user has repped (also fulfills this feature request: http://forums.invisi..._fromsearch__1)
    7. Quick ban in mini profile (have some suggestions if needed).
    8. Quick check box to qoute a post with the multi-quote button in the fast reply feature (like in vBulletin). A screeshot added:
    9. Quick sort listing function (like in vBulletin). A screenshot added:
    10. Let the user to see his own unaprroved posts same as the admin sees it.
    11. Tags System.
    12. Split the AJAX windows, and also fixes the problem of the X button being placed in the wrong side. A mockup added:
    13. And last but not least, add the CleanCut skin, fixed for all add-ons (if not already planned for a 3.0.X release).

Support me if you think these features are needed.

Also post your requests if you have any.

I've been around here for a very long time. I've been watching IPS evolve as a company for even longer.

I have to say I am very impressed with the way things have turned out over the years. You guys make occasional mistakes, but they are honest mistakes and you resolve them quickly. You don't take shortcuts and you have the good practice to be fair and polite to your customers no matter what. You have shown yourselves to be the kind of company I will stand behind.

Matt & Charles (and the rest of the contributing staff) you guys have made something really great here. I know sometimes managing a business can be demanding and stressful. I also know that it's alot easier to manage if you know what you are doing matters to others. Well, I'm telling you your software has made life easier for myself and many others, it matters to us!

No one knows what the future holds, but I can guarantee if you keep to your honest business practices customers like myself won't let anything happen to IPS. Not even if the whole world falls to this economic recession.

    Sincerely,
    Aaron

wepfijweoifj reacted to TrixieTang in Quick PM should have a "Use Full Editor" link
Currently if you go to someone's profile and try to send them a PM, if you decide you need all the editor options you don't have them, and there isn't a way to get to them short of copying what you typed so far, going to your messenger, typing in the name of the member, and pasting what you had written...

There really needs to be a link on the "Quick PM" popup like their is on the fast reply, "Use Full Editor" which keeps what you'd written, who you're sending it to, and takes you to your messenger to send a PM with access to all the editor options.

Make a new "service and support" plan available to lifetime and perpetual customers and charge $50/yr ($25 / 6 months) for it. Then those who want the additional services can simply renew the more expensive plan. Why force us to give up our licenses?

Yes, you are not 'stripping features' for legacy licensed customers. Instead, you are forcing the 'legacy' customers to give up their licenses in order to use a new service. Unacceptable.

    Hi,
I really like the new design of the IPB 3, in the past I'm not an IPB fan, but my choice has fallen on vB for reasons of which now I don't want to discuss (The past is past), but now I was really impressed by this new form that has introduced IPB and I don't see comparison with the present and the new vB core... this make me a decision to switch ASAP to IPB 3 from my owned vB (but also to the policy that is taking vB) ... so anyway I think that you were too hurried to release this new and splendid version of IPB 3 because it seems yet in BETA STAGE and not a true Final release...
users feedback and board admins (BIG AND SMALL BOARDS)they do understand.

This is the main reason why I haven't yet done my purchase, so definitely going to Invision Power Company as a preferred Board Company...

I am also sorry to say this because I was a fan of vB for many years, but I think many will make my own choice, then why when your prices are much more competitive.

Another very important factor about IPB and all IPS would be to not make the same mistakes of rivals trading, does not snob other languages as well, as other nations do you earn your money by buying your software, in order to be truly among the best we need an international team which coordinates the translation in as many languages as possible and include them as official.

    Thanks,
    Antonio

What I want to see in 3.1.

Thread Tagging Option for users to ignore/hide threads based on tags. Option to make it so that when moderators ban a user the user's group is changed to the banned group. it is so annoying having to log into the admin CP and change a member's group manually. And it makes it extremely hard to make a system where banned members can view an appeal forum, because if they're banned by a moderator then there's no way to give them access to an appeals forum until the admin changes their group. No more hard coded special permissions for super moderators. I don't want my mods (or admins for that matter) mass deleting posts, but if I have super mods they're automatically allowed to mass delete and there's no way to set it so they can't. This seems so stupid when you realize that you have pretty much complete control over admin permissions yet all these super mod permissions can't be changed at all...

wepfijweoifj reacted to Logan in Board Notices
I'd like the ability to create custom messages to be displayed at the top of the board if the member viewing the board meets certain conditions. Example: If member's posts is equal to 0, display message "You have not yet made a post, we encourage you to get involved, etc...". Show congratulatory posts when they reach a certain post count, show a certain message to users in a specific user groups, happy birthday, message regarding inactivity and encouraging the user to participate more, if user is using default skin let them know other skins are availalbe, etc... I think it would just create a more personalized and friendly experience for the user in some cases if the admin wanted to use it that way.

So by default include a large amount of conditions, posts, join date, last active date, is in user group, date, inactivity time, post count between x and y, currently browsing x forum, etc... and be able to create multiple messages and use multiple conditions. I think it's also important that the user be able to "close" the message then save to DB, and perhaps make that a setting per-message "can the user close this message?". Be good to close if you set a message about other skins being available and they're happy with the default skin, but you wouldn't want it to close if the user has not yet made a post or hasn't been active.

I know this can all be achieved through skin edits and using the html logic, and now just PHP in the templates in IPB 3.0. But the templates start to get messy with all those skin edits, and can be difficult to maintain. Also, a lot of users aren't tech savvy enough to use HTML and PHP to display the messages they want. I think this would be very useful.
