I used to have xcache installed on my board until I ran into some problems..after site issues.. I've now been told to use APC. Which cache system is the fastest or most used for IPB.

I am curious to know how other people backup their databases on a regular basis? Currently I use a cron job (because I am too lazy to do it manually), it backs up the database and then gzip's it. However I have been having a problem over the past couple of weeks with very erratic and incomplete backup sizes. The database is just under 400MB in size and I am running my board on a dedicated server. Looking at server stats the memory and cpu averages seem to be fine, never a problem, so I don't quite understand why a backup should be say around 67MB then the next backup is 41, 8, 11, 30, etc. Any ideas? Ted.

I grew weary of techs (employed by the web hosting company I lease from) working on my VPS. They always seemed to know what they were talking about, yet, they never actually accomplished anything. This was always the case after creating countless support tickets for my account. Recently, I read a post made by 3DKiwi, regarding a server issue another member was having. It was causing problems for his forum, I believe? He (3DKiwi) recommended another member, (in his words) "a server guru" who had worked on his server, and which he had been pleased about. I didn't have the exact username for the guy who did the work, so I sent a PM to 3DKiwi to ask him. Anyway, long story …

Wanted to see if anyone else has any experience with this. I have been getting a lot of internal redirect errors with googlebot and for some reason I can't figure out how. I set LogLevel to debug to help try and track it down. All of the urls work for me when visiting the different pages. I enabled the rewrite loglevel to 3 and it is coming from my main website. It seems to be a redirect loop when leads to the robots.txt file but I can't figure out how it would be doing a loop. Looking for some help with this as IPB support are trying hard but not getting anywhere. I have a slow query issue which is down to Topic Markers the query taking approx 5 sec to execute (see below) my board is currently 460,000 posts with 7000 members on average a hard core of 250 members on in 24hours so not that demanding. I have over 300 tables for IPB and other IPB add on Gallery blog etc. Extract from Slow query log, top, mysqltuner after upgrade. IPB say that the reason the mysql query is still so long is because I need to go for at lead 4GB RAM or dedicated for the level I am trying to run at. Never had an issue before 3.3.1. But to put it in a nutshell is this …

My hosting has installed FastCGI along with a newer version of PHP and APC for caching. Forum seems a little slower compared to when I had just PHP and xcache on.. Would Fastcgi slow things down , I'm not the best on this sort of stuff??

Hi, I've been optimizing my VPS with mysqltuner and tuning-primer and I've increased tmp_table_size and max_heap_table_size to a point that I don't understand it's behavior. At this moment I have 112MB but with lower values (16MB) I get almost the same results: Temporary tables created on disk: 29% (358 on disk / 1K total) I read that Blob and Text fields are always created on disk, so maybe this is the problem since there are lot's of text fields Any ideas? Thanks

Okay so, if I do a ping on the server IP it pings just fine.. However, if I do a ping on the domain, it comes up with no info... At times im able to view the site without using the www. prefix, but I cant view it using the www. prefix And then there is other times, when I cant view it at all I do have the IP and the domain listed in my hosts file... which solved the issue for about 2 hours... then I wasnt able to view it anymore... I have done a full cache clear and a dns flush But im still having issues viewing the site.. I can view if I use the IP... but not using the actual domain. Would anyone know what would cause something like that? Could something be…

Lately I'm having tonnes of problems with a server that I own and manage. at this time, it goes slow....until it goes totally down. From that moment no commands work. I only must login on the provider admin cp, and restart the machine. It's a CentOS distro based, cPanel, and some site up. From what I've understood from the latest ticket with a cPanel tech, there should be a problem on a partition, with a drive. This is the response: But It becomes far from my competences. Who experienced the same issues? The server hosts some site, but is for 99% of the physical space empty. Who can help me?

Hi guys, I've been trying to figure out a resource issue for some time now ... basically every single weekend (Sat night into Sun morn) for the past month or so, our site experiences major resource issues - it's almost like someone is attacking our site - yet during the week everything is fine, we can have a couple of hundred people on the site at any one point and you would hardly know they are there, but at the weekend it doesn't matter if we have 10 users on the site, the server is crippled. Before I go any further, please let me explain I am by no means a server administrator or claim to even understand the troubleshooting I have done so far, I have merely picked up…

Just wondering. I don't like my host for forums, but the cost for IPB seems kind of high. I have already purchased most applications. Plan to buy a couple more soon. (Content and Nexus) If you use IPB hosting... why? Thanks!

Guys I have been running a forum for a number of years now and although I am confident about working around the IPB software the server side of things is way beyond me. Therefore I have been using a managed VPS which generally has been OK but a lack of understanding on my part has prevented me (up until now) from getting things tweaked and upgraded properly. I recently upgraded my CPanel and my host has asked whether I want other services upgraded. Mac Server?

We have been running our website from a dedicated server for the past year now, and pay roughly £500 every 3 months for this. We have got to the point now, where we are wondering whether we are better off doing this our selves and having our own server. We are not interested in leasing space out to people, or anything like this. Pure and simple, it will have our forum on there and 3-4 very small Wordpress sites. Now, we are Mac addicts here and have had a business meeting at our local Apple branch. They have shown us the Mac Mini Server, as well as raid storage (i think?) and basically just everything and showed us how we can easily set up our own server using Apple p…

Hi, This is really annoying me and I can't really find anything about it on the usual places. I am trying to install a separate version of PHP on a development server so that I can then proceed to install PHP-GTK 2 for a clients development project. I don't want the PHP-GTK package installed on the production version of PHP I am using so decided against that. I've downloaded the PHP source from their CVS, running ./buildconf goes fine but when I run ./configure, it goes through the usual for a few seconds and then spits this out every time: configure: error: Found invalid flex version: 2.5.33. Supported flex versions are: 2.5.4 I have Googled this various times a…

Hi, I am trying to accomplish something very specific. The project I'm working on requires about 10,000 forums. I know thats odd, but try to accept that it must be setup that way. I've done multiple install on multiple hardware and software configuration and it seems the web server is the bottleneck, but I can't figure out why. I've done every optimization I could find in the admin control panel and moved to an NGINX webserver and installed memcached and APC on it and still found little improvement in the webserver performance. Even on a 4Ghz 8 core with 24 Gigs or ram it still takes about 10 seconds to show the forum index and to go into sub forums. The index only…
