Songstuff reacted to Dreadknux in Mobile / Desktop Navigation Display Options
Hi guys, not sure if this is already being worked on for V5 but I'm throwing it out there. Basically I'd love for there to be a way to set different navigation menus depending on the device a user is browsing the community on.
I ask this because on desktop, I might want to have three major menu items on display before having a "More" dropdown that houses all other sections of the community... but on mobile (where the user menu is vertical and offers more space) I would want to have all menu items lined up on the top level without any dropdown/nested menus.
It'd be great to allow for different menus per device/theme to account for this, or if that's too much maybe a setting that lets me manually set how many menu items are on display before the dynamic "More" dropdown appears on desktop.

All templates would be set in your Database's settings or Category settings if you have allowed for them to be different from the original. If there is an example where you have set this correctly but are not seeing it, please let us know the Database and, if applicable, Category.

Check for template calls in places like Listing template → categoryHeader.
It will indeed call a stock template for categoryRow there by default. But you can change that to call your custom template groups.
There might be more places like that. In general, you want to make sure that all {template… calls point to your custom templates.

I'm sorry for the delay, I should have this looked out this week.
All my apps and plugins were manually tested with IPB 4.7.0 and PHP 8.1 but it appears IPS have required further changes to be made. I'll be going through and updating them all again in the coming weeks but until then, if you are using the latest version, none of these logs appear to be critical and you are able to manually enable the application again until I've updated this.

Do you have an estimate when this will be made PHP 8.0 compatible?

Im actually still seeing issues on your site there. Are you having issues again?
Just to note here, you are simply between support staff shifts. Not related to the support model. Unfortunately it was simply timing in this case. Support can be up to 72 hours as per SLA, but of course we are very very rarely anywhere near that time.

We haven't used XMLRPC since version 3.4. it's a very old thing.

Hey....  I resemble that remark!  I remember when 3.4 was the new hawtness.
    Picture it...  Sicilly...  2012....

The UK had informed the WHO of a novel coronavirus case originating out of Saudi Arabia (what would later be known as MERS). The largest Atlantic hurricane on record at the time, Hurricane Sandy, devastated the east coast of the US. Vladimir Putin was elected as President of Russia and Barack Obama was re-elected as President of the US.   And in a small, quiet town...  @Charles announced the best version of IPB ever made up to date.... version 3.4!
    Ahhh...  those were the days!

    Hi
I am looking to migrate and noted that XMLRPC has been removed from the 8.0 rpm package. is XMLRPC still a requirement of an invision community? If it makes a difference my install has blog, gallery, store and pages. If it is optional, would I need to disable any settings or remove anything?
    Cheers

As mentioned in the ticket there, this appears to be an issue whereby your task is writing items that your web user cannot read or overwrite, which is causing you problems. This is something you would need to address with your hosting company to get resolved

If you loose position to a competitor over AMP alone, I would be surprised. AMP was praised for its speed, but then as people realized that conversion dropped like a rock, it did not catch on in the most important segment: business. So I would say if this is something that will eventually be implemented, make sure it can be turned on manually only. I tried it on WordPress and hated it, and I still exit any page that show me that watered-down experience. Almost as fast as sites that ask me to turn off ad-blockers 🙂
Considering that less than 0.2% use AMP and almost none of the top sites do, if we are to believe online stats, I don't think this is a magical bullet for SEO gains. You can easily check the sites above you in the search results to see if they use AMP or not. My guess is that they simply have better SEO strategies and work more focused on their keywords, especially in the long-tail.
You may also be surprised to know that you can still rank without passing all the checks and that the checks are just the visible parts of the algorithms, not the whole solution 🙂 Content and links still are king when it comes to SEO and the goal is not to get people to your site, it is to make them stay. Right?

    Hi
Maybe it’s happened and I just missed it. I see requests at least as far back as 2016. Google punishes sites that fail in core vitals and AMP support is a big part of achieving them. Google has a long history of prioritising sites that use it’s tech, especially if it is latest tech. To me, if you implement anything else, at a minimum AMP support is not only sensible, it is essential.
    Cheers
    John
PS if I just missed it’s inclusion in features or the road map, sorry! Mobile on my invision forum is the only core vital any of my sites fail in. I run many sites using different platforms (mainly Wordpress) on a variety of hosts. It’s really frustrating!

    Thanks Charles.
I guess the main thing is their core vitals tests. If they are punishing sites that fail them, then I am hoping that for both desktop and mobile there are sufficient tools/options to enable sites to pass those tests. That is the key concern. Some tests are easier than others.
For example, a dashboard that helps admins optimise their site or track what could be going wrong. Cache control options, mirroring control options, a bulk image converter to webp or other modern compressed image formats, css and javascript optimisation and minifying, including deferral or disabling if features are not being used. I know some bits are there but they are spread out in admin.

Hi, definitely looking to purchase... I thought I would make some suggestions based upon my use of auto responders:
    Support for list segments
This might help for a description of segments https://reachmail.com/support/article/getting-started-with-list-segments
    Support for list tags
A useful tag usage description can be found here: https://reachmail.com/support/article/lists-tags
Campaign chaining / using ending a campaign as a trigger Trigger on an email open Trigger on an email click Trigger on a submitted poll answer radio/checkbox/drop down Actions:
Ability to tag users Ability to assign/remove users to list segments Tags can then be used to filter users, and for improved targeting when scheduling.
    List Engagement Report
The ability to automate moving users between segments, the ability to assign sequences to segments and events.
Clean up tool.. remove people from list who are not engaging, not opening emails, not clicking on inks etc
Ideally the ability to choose event triggers and actions would be awesome.
Just some thoughts off the top of my head

Just wanted to get back to this... and say thank you Nathan. Your advice worked brilliantly. 10,000 records now in my pages database!
Now I just need to sort out a search based upon the contents of one of some of the fields and it will be sorted. The current search is close, but as it is a feature I think search on the page in question will look better...
    anyway, many thanks!

No worries - in the event that you are using categories, then you can cross check their ids in the cms_database_categories. The 'category_database_id' is your link to the database_id from earlier.

Insert one item in to your pages database. Look at the cms_databases table in your site database and identify the database_id for your pages database. Look at the cms_custom_database_X (where X = that database id) table and review the content, and how it is populated. Take that structure and mirror it in your excel spreadsheet (titles etc) Use the Import -> CSV functionality in phpmyadmin to import the csv file in to the table. It's how I've populated over 100 years worth of football league tables in to a pages database - approximately 20,000 records.
