Come on guys, Invision is never going to please us all. And even if they adopted granular ACP theme adjustment tools same as Xenforo has, we'd still need to sit back and adjust dozens and dozens of margin, padding, line height and similar parameters to suit all of our individual tastes. And then you have the menu, which in my view should be docked in an object that can be bound to the DOM either on the server or in a CSOM. But, even if Invision did that, we'd still need to position it ourselves, and move it around depending on the app currently in use. So I say, be careful what you wish for as even though I'd like to see pages that are rendered a little more tightly and menus that break from the current paradigm, you can bet if Invision did that, we'd still be back with another set of demands next month.
So how about we get together, put our hands in our pockets and see if we can find a designer come dev to create a configurable theme for us - and I mean a theme, not a (wanit in green, blue, red?) skinning exercise. It could include all sorts of presets including spacing, fonts, menu positions and so on, including specifics for desktop and mobile. Won't be cheap, but at least at the end of it we will have something we can use to give us what we want, rather than assuming Invision can pull a theme styling rabbit out of the hat which is going to miraculously please us all. I just don't see it.
Of course, Invision are more than capable of doing this themselves. But a bit a string only goes so far, and if they do this, then all the other stuff we need like video transcoding (ok I need that 🙂 ) will get pushed to the back of the queue.
So how how about it? Put our energies into something creative?

I appreciate the feedback here. We're listening as always.

My only request is that we keep it polite. We don't need to scream in each other's faces to be heard. If we don't reply or action the feedback immediately, it isn't because we disagree, or are ignoring what you're saying; it's more likely that we need to consider every change as a team and this takes time.

I do receive the newsletters (I avoid corporate social media as far as possible). Nothing I had read thus far indicated such dramatic under the hood changes to me.
Bottom line for me right now is that I am stuck here on 4.5 and having to use a default theme that I personally think looks awful and I can't find an easy way to change it. Even my premium theme doesn't let me easily make the changes I was used to making.
Just really disappointed in the design aesthetic and the fact that it's so hard to change now.
I suggest that in future it might be advisable to split your communications into categories that deal with the aesthetics changes as well as the functional changes. But then again, we're being forced to upgrade, so even if we don't like what we see in new versions there's not much we can do about it if we want to keep support current.

We were in beta for months, alpha for about a month before that. We've been talking about 4.5 since last year, and announced the new front end theme in April. We've been running a beta version on our own community here for months.

I understand your point that you can't be expected to obsessively follow every bit of news we release, but with a major upgrade you should take a short time to investigate the changes before pressing the button.

I appreciate the feedback but I think it's a little unfair to state that you didn't know what was coming and now regret it.
We also have to design for a wide variety of screen sizes, so the layout has to be consistent and modular.

It's easy to see a lot of whitespace on a single screen with a short topic title and few logged in actions at full screen on a 24" monitor, but when you consider this:

I don't feel that there's much space to save here without cramming it into two lines and accepting some buttons will overflow.

Yeah... I've done a complete reversal on this after thinking on it for several hours.
I should have paused and given it some more thought before only seeing it as a negative.  This new change will work just fine.
Thanks for the positive reinforcement, it's appreciated.

In 4.5 we've tried to keep headers consistent, so that buttons are where you expect them to be, there's space for additional buttons as each page/app might require, and so that each page/app can extend the data shown in the header without the whole thing breaking down. In 4.4, this was a problem - sure, on perfect example pages, the follow button worked well in the top right. But using a different app where more buttons need to be shown, or even just having a long topic title, suddenly it wasn't so pretty and usable. The new header is designed to be flexible and extensible according to requirements.
It's pretty easy to take one particular page and find criticisms - but remember we are designing a suite where each page might have some shared functionality and some unique functionality. We have to design components that can work well in more than one perfect scenario.

Obviously IPS has their props vs others similar platforms, that is why we here. But is necessary hear feedback of none satisfied and critics from users or clients, because:
Company purpose is for clients, design purpose is for users, are working for users need. How many benefits a company taked from the users needs and feedbacks, this is something related the company header understands, vision and direction.
We spend times to comment and give ours feedbacks, because we don't want the company forgive their purpose, if the company do good help and support to their clients, these clients continue growing, then the company grows together... So, if the clients are benefitted, then company benefited, I think this will be a cool direction for us.
Just try to give my 5 cents

I am onboard with IPS for long, and here is my positive feedback on the current state of the nation:

    - I love the strategy of moving from Pure forum to communities, with a tightly integrantes set of apps. This was a crucial move that allowed IPS to escape from the fierce competitivo on a shrinking market. As everybody knows, fóruns are disappearing, yet people are still getting together. This is why i prefer IPS package Over XF ir VB because there is a whole set of tightly packed tools to get my people collaborating.
    - I love the new theme. "Oh it's too white" "oh só much white space"... For me it is definitely a great step forward. Is ir perfect? No, but it was definitely a major step forward!
    - Integrations! We are not alone in the cyberspace, and there are many great apps and services out there. Integration with Zapier will be a major leap um interoperability and would allow IPS users to extract more value of their communities. I am looking forward to see IPS on Zapier, it os just taking too long.
    - Support. Has been great. Thanks!

There is also less positive aspects, most related to pricing, business and evolution of the compromise with customers through time,  but now it is not the time to talk about that.

Absolutely, art has always used nudes to depict the human form.

Still a bit of a surprise when you're looking for photos of coffee. 😂😂😂

As Paul mentioned, 4.5.3 adds a safe search option (on by default). It won't catch everything, but it'll reduce the chances your kids will spot you surfing for naked pictures on your forum.

FYI, this is no longer needed as of 4.5.3+. It won't break anything, yet is now a configurable option in the ACP > Community Enhancements > Pixabay

@xtech: here's a screenshot of where you can find the key on the documentation page (linked from ACP > Settings > Community Enhancements > Pixabay > Configure). After you create an account/login, which has no approval process, you'll see a value in the green box in the Parameters listing under API. That's the actual API key for you. I've pixelated it in the screenshot below.
There's no obvious HERE'S YOUR API KEY call out.

If you could add another option that returns only the naughty stuff, that would be appreciated. Please enable said option here. I understand that's not an option with the Pixabay API, but I'm confident you'll find a way. Thanks. 🤓

Pixabay does make it a little odd, but all you need is the key, which is only shown in the documentation page. We'll sort out the safe search option for 4.5.3.

Just gotta throw it out there for any new potential customers, and to let staff know they're appreciated :
Support : The few times I have ever needed support from Invision themselves, have always been answered in a timely manner, and "to the point focus", and I love it. Staff has always made a point of answering all my questions in a message, and I find that lacks in alot of other places. A+ support 🥰
Service : Out of 7 months of usage, I think we have experienced 1 "downtime" period, and for only a few hours. I currently use the Cloud package, and I gotta say it works pretty well out of the box, and is surprising what you can do with it 😉 Not to mention not having to worry about running the site it self is a huge relief 😂
    Keep up the great work!
