Brainy S. reacted to opentype in Add New Record in Pages (with custom fields)
The custom fields offered on the database form page depend on permissions and the category they are activated for. So, it that sense, they can be “selected”. I am not sure what you wan on top of that. Maybe give a specific example so it more clear?

I second this. Many articles are quite outdated. They should be updated as the new features are released.

Thanks for the through and detailed feedback.

I'm sorry that you had issues with the disable/enable 3rd party customisations tool. Generally we find this to be robust but as with anything in code, it's possible edge cases arise. I'll happily take any logs or information you may have as to way your custom app failed to come back online so we can look for any issues with our code.

I realise it's the "can you turn off your modem and turn it back on again" step is frustrating but when you come onto our side of the fence, you see dozens of tickets a day where something is broken, so we investigate and it sometimes goes through a T1 tech (20-30 mins) then into a developer (60-90 mins) to determine that it's an issue with third party code. This happens daily. In your case with a skilled developer, there's only a slim chance it's the case, but we have to pitch this at the lowest common denominator unfortunately.

We are in a bit of a bind as we're committed to low renewal fees, so the forum app renews at $80/year or just under $7 a month. This doesn't cover a lot of support time or development time, so we really have to make it as streamlined as possible. It's why we're still able to offer email support for our cloud community plans. I would imagine it's why Rackspace are also able to offer support.

In terms of documentation, we do review it but not as often as we would like to. That's a fair comment and I'll review our policy.

I do agree that the area of screen real estate design is a huge area of opportunity for IPS and wish there was the ability for people to more easily modify these design choices. Also, it's taken me a long time to get accustomed to the nooks and crannies of the UI and wish this aspect in particular would get a great deal of reconsideration in the future.
With the major change in standard support I really wish this also would further be taken as an opportunity to provide greater (and updated) technical references / documentation to those not using the cloud-based SaaS version of IPS. I often wonder if the lack of such resources is meant to discourage all of the self-hosted IPS users and encourage them to move to the cloud.
That being said, at the end of the day I'm glad for the continued availability of a reasonable price-point for entry for all of us self-hosted users and the ability (if somewhat difficult and frustrating at times) to dig through the volumes of material to cobble together answers from the quite old information scattered throughout the site.

I'd REALLY like to see an option that lets guests take the quizzes.

Also, having results similar to personality tests would be great.

If you are physically moving the tested site to another server, then take a look at the guidelines here. You can however selectively use the information you need from this to switch from dev to live
The main things to remember when doing this are the following
If you are converting the other system, do a test first. This will save you having issues on the day you do it for real, and you will know what to expect Use -TESTINSTALL at the end of your license key, to use your test key instance. That way you dont have any issues with switching to your live domain. You just move it and set your live license key Any issues at all, go to ACP->Support (top right) and see that page to see if there is anything showing up, and (as already mentioned) use clear cache Make sure if you are moving from a subfolder, you change any .htaccess files (and indeed ensure you move that, as I have seen people miss that where its hidden) When changing your conf_global.php file, back it up, then change it. That way if you make a mistake, you can repeat that process. I have seen many times someone accidentally delete or add something that breaks the site on moving items
One thing you can do to speed up the process, is if you are moving from one location to another with the physical files, make a copy of all the files in advance. Then you can just replace those which have been added or changed.

Brainy S. reacted to The Old Man in Is it safe to upgrade to 4.6.4? Did an error occur?
Hi, if it answers your question, I was able to upgrade from 4.6.3 to 4.6.4 correctly this time via the internal upgrade facility. First time that's worked on 4.6 for me.
All the bugs are still present though, 4.6 should still be in beta testing IMHO.
I still have a locked task coming back to haunt me every time I unlock it from 4.5.4.2 for RSS imports, even though I deleted the actual feed import back in 4.5.4.2!

Uploading 1920x1080 photos into the Gallery, is buggy as hell, a truly horrendous experience. I have plenty of spare RAM available, 40 cores on a 6GB VPS that barely ticks over in terms of load. I'm not uploading straight to S3, and PHP settings and PHP memory all fine. I've been trying to upload 340 photos that 4.6.2 lost on S3 storage and it's taking days, because on 4.6.3 and now still on 4.6.4 it sometimes works, but mostly it fails on the progress bar at 5% when processing them, even if I do just 10 at a time.
I try again and it might work, next batch will fail 3 or 4 times times, then work again. It just suddenly aborts processing them and returns me to the Gallery, with 1 or 2 images having uploaded, which I then have to delete as they are not in the order intended, not that Gallery can sort them correctly anyway. It's agony.
If I try more 20 at a time, I risk more time consuming failures but also I suddenly get dozens of pop up error modals, one for each image I think, and have to abandon the tab:

Honestly, it feels like when you start using it for more than half an hour, barely anything seems to work reliably. I've never known a release like 4.6, aside maybe perhaps the original v4 release, maybe.
I honestly wish BFarber was still at IPS, because he would have been all over this before this unstable release got out of the door.

It goes without saying that we all want every one of  the marketplace apps to be updated within days of a new release.  We need to better manage our expectations as Adriano has a very large collection of marketplace and custom apps that he supports. They will all be updated when they get updated and not a moment sooner.
Coding and testing works best when you are in a good frame of mind.  Being constantly pestered for updates is unlikely to put Adriano in such a state.  Be of good cheer@Adriano Fariaand the other marketplace developers, we appreciate all of you...

That looks wrong. The “public_html” is usually a part of a server path, not a public URL.
By the way: you are allowed one development URL. You could use that to prepare the move.
