zyx got a reaction from MEVi in Prevent guests from seeing full size image
Apologies if I am requesting something that already exists, but if it does, I really cannot find the setting for it.
It would be great to allow guests to view images at a smaller size, but when they click on them to view full size, ask them to login/signup.
I know vbulletin has this as this feature has made me register to several vbulletin sites in the past!
It would be great to save on bandwidth from guests (but without blocking their access to topics entirely) but also give an extra incentive for registering.
    Thanks.

I can tell you with 100% certainty now that the Invision team is putting efforts into gamification in general in a release this year. 🎉

Yea I feel you lol. It was a bit of a rollercoaster comment. Ultimately I do think that if you want to be able to control how images are shown in your community, you should have the freedom to do so. My sneaking suspicion is that this might be a good opportunity to create a plugin versus it being implemented into the core suite. Thoughts?

I am having this issue as well, on our production environment, which has never had IN_DEV set to true.
I've been copying the files back into the set_resources_X folders, but then poof... They're gone in a few days.

Similar to viewing template changes in comparison to default templates, please consider adding a mechanism to highlight the specific portions of content that have been altered from one revision to the next. For examples, consider the way MediaWiki highlights changes between two selected revisions, or how the template "diff" display works now in ACP.
It drives me insane to look at a lengthly piece of content and scroll up and down between the two to sort out what exactly someone decided to revise.
Here's an example using Mergely JS library:

    Agree!
The level of realistic goes up proportional to the amount of demand for the feature. I imagine if some large whale of an enterprise client came up to IPS and asked for this to be added as contingent on some juicy CIC contract, it'd find its way in pretty quickly. We just need this to be important to that guy with the gaming forum thing. Where'd he go?

We store the post content as already generated HTML, which means the same content is served to members and guests. In order to accomplish what is being asked here our options are limited, as such. We could in theory...
Link to a script that serves the image (instead of to the actual image), and let that script serve an error/alternative "no access" image to guests. Main con: you lose the benefit of using a CDN (such as Cloudfront) to serve your images. Use javascript to provide an alternative experience for guests. Main con: simply disabling javascript circumvents the "protection", so it's not really that useful if you truly want to block guests from seeing the images. Store different content for guests and members. Main con: you duplicate the bulk of your database, and all existing content would need to be rebuilt on upgrade. Realistically there's not a great way to handle what you are asking for when you factor in other considerations as above.

Kind of strange that vbulletin has this feature and that it is so diffucult here. Wouldn’t it help if you disable lightbox (or whatever that pop-up with lagre image is called) for guests via a plug-in?

Agree. My single most important plug-in is the one that hides links from guests. When I installed the plug-in several years ago the new users sign-up tripled. But off-course, signing up for a new site is one thing, another is if the will contribute to the community later on.
But the idea of just showing smaller images or maybe blurred images for guests appealed to me as well.

Just out of curiosity, is there a reason this would be more suited to a plugin than a core feature?
I was guessing this could be quite a widely used setting as it's both a bandwidth saver and an incentive to register - (although I admit I may be way off the mark and nobody else wants this) 😂 But I've definitely seen it put to good to use on quite a few other forums.

IPS has created multiple features that duplicated existing features in the Marketplace.  I've lost count how many third-party mods they've cannibalized: letter avatars, clubs, reactions, membergroup colors, etc.
Their latest feature of Anonymous Accounts existed in the Marketplace for many years, so this reasoning is totally irrelevant.

100% agree. I am spending some time this week organizing initiatives like these so that when I take it to the team it's thoughtfully laid out. Points is priority for me. It may not be the right time for us, but I do personally find a ton of value in it and imagine it would be an amazing addition to Invision as well as an incentive for more people to join our Invision family. 🙏

Could this be added to make IPS more user friendly on phones?
The scrolling that needs to be done on phone devices is mammoth and there's no easy way up to get back to the top.
    Anyone else struggle with this?
The only addon in Marketplace I could find is from 2015 and no longer compatible.

My only problem with the Quote is that once you expand, you can't hide again.
Especially on mobile, when I'm trying to scroll up or down to prior posts, hiding a long quote helps.

zyx got a reaction from Olmyster in (Idea) Reactions - more customisation
Since the above application hasn't been updated since 2019, I wonder if IPS would consider adding some of these features into the core software? I imagine reactions are used by almost every community, so would be great to see their functionality expanded a little more. 🙂

Well said.  It's important to keep in mind that capital isn't the only currency that matters (in an online community or in culture in general), which is in essence the whole point behind this thread.
So yeah, this gets my full support and I'd offer myself as a tester in any capacity.  Oh, and let me do the fight pit part.  Pleeeeease let me do the fight pit part...
That's great news.  I think one could also argue that this could transform the potential of the IP platform as much as Clubs in some ways.  I mean, are there any other CMS which have points economies as baked-in features?  Is this new ground Invision would be breaking in doing this?

I disagree 😇 I agree with @Joel R's point. And also, think of something like Robinhood. They've made trading stocks feel like a game. Yotta Bank has also gamified their business model - you earn points by saving money with them and using their bank. They also raffle off huge prizes each month to their users. Social Media does some gamification - for instance if you post a lot on a Facebook page, Facebook gives you a "badge" of sorts. You have the title "Top Poster" on your posts on that page moving forward. 🙏

I totally agree. The default skin in 4.5 is absolutely terrible. Huge elements, padding, empty space, thin and faded text, low contrast, and more. It's no surprise why more and more people are choosing to use XenForo, Discord, etc., over IPB. I don't know who made the new skin, but it feels like a beginner freelancer from Dribble made it.
But why did they need to move the follow button one line down? If the follow button was positioned on the same line as the title, as before, there would be no useless empty space.
    One more example:

It takes up a lot of space, but none of it is needed there.
You just entered a topic and want to reply right away? Not! You just entered a topic and want to create a new topic right away? Of course not!  Who cares who is the author of the topic and when it was created? Nobody! For example, I have active topics on my forum that are already 12 years old. Why should I constantly show who is the author of these topics if they have not visited the forum for 10 years and everyone has already forgotten about them?? Nobody cares who is the author of the topic. This information is completely meaningless and useless. One more example:

Am I exactly in a place for people to communicate? Because on my screen I see only a white space and a couple of lines of text. 🤦🏻‍♂️
