I would like to ask why the structure of the Invision Marketplace couldn't still exist here, but instead of financial transactions and downloads being handled by Invision, just remove the commerce aspect of it and just let it be a "Downloads" directory with hyperlinks back to the author's site. The author could still update the application or theme's description, changelog, and compatible versions here at Invision, and the client would still be able to shop around here where they feel comfortable, and if they find something in your [former] Marketplace, they click through to the authors personal site.
Downloads allows for URL submissions as it is. Why not retain that directory of applications here? What Joel is proposing to do, you could set up in a short amount of time and then it would be almost on autopilot. An existing Invision directory would only increase exposure to the applications that 3rd party devs have created and sell.

No, your ACP is going to show the same notification and badge as you see now if they implement their own version check.

If I was a new developer trying to gain trust, I'd spend some time in the community being helpful and getting to know people. You can quite quickly gain trust this way and then start to offer your services and products.

I understand that the shutdown of the Marketplace is a huge shock to everyone, thinking it's the end of the world when it's honestly not.

3rd party developers will still be able to offer their applications, and with the help of @Joel R building a directory, that is bound to be good. Have a little trust everyone.

Also worth noting: Other forum software developers don't maintain an official marketplace and don't review codes or anything that is being released. It's entirely on the BUYER's responsibility to check for recommendations, reviews, sales, and reputation of the 3rd party developer. As always, think and do research before you buy and if it's too good to be true then it most likely is.

So I just looked at the Provider Directory and visited their links. Some of them only do custom work. Some of them have some work to do on their sites. But your regular marketplace contributors like @opentype @Adriano Faria @Miss_B all have very well developed Marketplaces of their own on their respective sites.
I could care less if I am getting a 3rd party app/plugin or theme from outside the marketplace, but it was nice to have a one stop shop to search for what's available.
I was thinking of the exact same thing but you beat me to it. 😉

I agree with Robert here. I always click on Notificaiton on our forum and all is marked as read. It works fine when you have 5 things to catch up but doesn't help really, when I am logging in after few days and i have 30 notifications to catch up on.

... like Facebook and other social platforms do.
On my Invision installation, let's presume I visit my board and I have 15 notifications. I scroll down to #15 and click on it and read that post. Then when I return to the Bell icon at the top of the page to open my notifications again, they are all marked read. Couldn't just #15 be marked read and the remaining unread notifications still be in bold type and very clear that they are notifications that have yet to be clicked on?

Nothing is really changing in that regard. We don't have a backdoor or anything like that to shut your community down 🙂
Of course it would be detrimental to your community success and security to run any software platform that has not had an update in years, but that's up to you in the end.

We cannot guarantee v4 will be supported quite as long as Classic. One of the core advantages of cloud is that we are able to leverage the latest technologies to deliver a better experience than what can be had via the average self-hosted environment. There will likely be a time that updates to the cloud infrastructure will necessitate upgrading from v4, but there is nothing on the immediate horizon and we expect we'll be able to continue v4 support on cloud for some time.
Please reach out to sales@invisionpower.com to see if there's anything we can do for you. 🙂

Yeah, ImageMagick was not installed, but even after installing it I still ran into that error message.
I ended up restoring my test-install back to it's pre-upgrade state and switching to GD. Then the upgrade went flawlessly.

Robert Angle got a reaction from olavrb in Pasting as "Rich Text" but making text color = default
So we have this problem in our community where we developed a "dark mode" template for members who just prefer things that way, whether it is easy on the eyes or to save battery on their mobile devices. However, we've run into this conundrum and cannot seem to fix it....
We have "Paste behavior" set to Rich Text with giving the members the option to paste as Plan Text instead. If a member copies text that was originally designated as black and pastes it into the his post, the black text color attribute carries over into the post as part of that Rich Text. Members who use our dark mode template, in which the content area is black, will not see any quoted text, because it matches the background.
Obviously, we could change "Past as Rich Text" always to "Paste as Plain Text" always, and we did that, then got a fair amount of complaints, so we switched it back. It's now an issue of a small amount of dark theme lovers vs the small amount of paste-as-rich-text lovers. If we could retain the Rich Text but strip away the text color attribute that would be perfect. We just need all text to be "default" so that it shows up dark on the white background and as light on the dark background.
It there a way to make this happen by modifying something in the Invision code or the CK Editor code?

Turns out the problem was an old 3rd party plugin "Go to top" or "To the top" or something like that, which would put a little up arrow in the bottom corner of the screen which would send you back up to the top of the page when you clicked on it. It's gone, and now I just get to wait and see how long it takes for someone to complain about it missing, lol.

You’re most welcome. Just remember to pop your cache if you run into problems running recovery mode multiple times. (It sometimes detects you still logged in.  The recovery mode triggers on login. So totally closing browser or popping cache fixes it.)

Robert Angle got a reaction from Cannabis Connect in Hump Day: do you use the Clubs feature?
This has been our experience too. We enabled Clubs when it first came out. Initially there was a lot of buzz and several members created their own Clubs, but then it petered out. We disabled Club Forums from appearing on the main index page because with so many it ended up being a ton of clutter, so we feature them on a subsequent page and in sidebar blocks as well as with a prominent link in the masthead but by and large they are dead.
We're in the process of removing the deadest of dead Clubs. When we see what is left, we're probably going to convert them to subforums and just turn the Clubs feature Off.
