No! This is where people take GDPR too far and misunderstand the point. Of course a contact form requires contact data and contact data to be stored. Just as ordering a product requires a shipping and billing address to be stored. You don’t need addition consent. The GDPR changes nothing in that regard and requires nothing new.
You just shouldn’t ask for more information than necessary and you shouldn’t use it for other purposes. When the contact form signs the user up for a marketing email list without his knowledge and consent – well, you can’t do that anymore. (And you shouldn’t have done it in the past.)

Ha! Mine is the same story from the same time, @Jim M! My familiarity with those boards as a user until around 2007 was enough for me to know that I wanted to find a reason to use that same software myself one day. I got started when 3.4.x was around but held off on doing anything once I'd seen a blog about i18n from Mark for the forthcoming 4.x; my board needed to have two languages and this looked to be perfect. I've had tonnes of fun tweaking the CSS and templates; it's been a really good learning tool.

I got involved with forums soon after I got married (in 2003). My husband had a job with extremely late hours, we had no kids yet, and I was home from my own job by 6:00 and very, VERY bored. My husband is an avid fan of the New York Yankees, and really wanted me to join him at the games, so I started to learn a little more about baseball. I wanted to sound halfway intelligent, so I began spending time on the YES Network forums to see what other fans were saying. (Solid choice, Esther, hang around with crazy trolls. Excellent decision-making skills.)
After a couple of months there, one of the more active members decided he was fed up with the sheer number of trolls and total lack of moderation - there was 1 moderator for nearly 1 million members. This guy was asking around to see if anyone could help him get the site up and running. As I mentioned, I was VERY bored, so I figured I'd do it.
The site was running IPB 2.2, and I started poking around and learning how to customize things. Taught myself PHP by implementing the modifications, then started making my own.
Our site ran for nearly 5 years (and was really popular) before we had to shut it down simply because we had no time to run it. By then I was distributing my own minor modifications and doing really small custom pieces.
In 2010, I quit my job to go out on my own and do this full time. I love this job. I love that my customers never ever want the same things twice, I love that nearly anything is possible with IPS. I'm really enjoying watching the framework "grow up", so to speak.

Next time anybody suggests that the Invision Community team doesn't listen, send them to this article. There's so much here that I've seen people bring up over the past year. What an amazing product. You lovely, lovely people.

It should be fine, we've added it without making any changes to the global template, so it'll work out of the box for customers that are using custom/modified themes.

Just because a feature isn't in this version doesn't mean we don't think it's important  We can only do so much in any one release. Clubs in particular is a very new feature and has both been used by more people than we expected, and in ways we never thought of. It will take a few releases to add everything everyone wants. I'm really glad you love the feature so much! The vast majority of our customers do not come to these forums. We get a lot of ideas for features through support channels (either explicitly or by asking "how do I do this?" for something you can't do). So don't assume "nobody has requested" something. We wouldn't waste our time adding features nobody is requesting!

What are you shouting at me for? Where have I mentioned anything about useless features?
For what it's worth, I would really like to see Club categories too. I think I was one of the first to request that feature too, as I've also done for Blogs.

Doesn’t feel like it actually. Asking someone whether one request from many that was not yet implemented makes that request “useless” makes no sense. Assuming financial interests as priority, just because one of the features implemented happens to be connected to Commerce is nothing but a bold assertion. You state it as it would be a fact. And paid clubs were indeed requested by multiple users.
Calm or not, it’s a terrible/dishonest way of arguing.
