This all looks amazing and so much neater, but there is one thing that really bugs me a lot - it's probably the designer in me - is the inconsistency of the side bar top alignment; see below:

The gap between the top of the sidebar and the topic header.
Yet here it is aligned perfectly:

I presume there is a reason for this, or is it an oversight?
I don't mean to be picky as you've done a fantastic job on the update, but this one little niggle is a bug for me lol

This is looking good (no, change that to fantastic)!  Quick question, in the grid format with images, are the images clickable or do you still have to click the text to enter the forum? If it's the former (clickable) fantastic, if it's the latter then that is counter intuitive as a natural reaction would be to click the image.
Many thanks for all of these amazing updates - 4.5 is looking to be something special.

One of the things that will come from all of this is that people will remember those who came together and those who chose to stand apart; whether this be so-called friends and neighbours to suppliers of commodities and services - people will remember those who rallied around and those who ran away.
It is very hard times for everyone, but more so for the thousands who have lost loved ones and cannot even see them off properly; for the medics and front line staff who have to make the unenviable choice of who to save and who to let slip away and for Governments who have to make really tough choices to make sure that as many as possible stay safe.
This is something that will affect every part of the globe and with repercussions that will last a generation or more, but with grit and determination we will prevail.  This is a different kind of enemy, one that is enemy to all and not just a few and the only way we will be able to defeat it is to come together and squish it permanently.
Thanks to Matt for reminding us that together we are stronger - united we stand, divided we fall comes to mind. This is an event that transcends all of the old divisions which we must put aside to defeat this common enemy.
Stay safe everyone, stay strong and stick together (as much as social distancing allows).

That is a tragedy and no one can even begin to know how that affects you - condolences to you, your community and their family and friends.  There are no words, but thoughts and prayers are with you.

I don't like (never have liked) the overlay title and info over the image.  Why can't it be on a bar above the menu and leave the image untarnished?  Also, instead on clicking on the image to expand it, why not allow admins to choose between open and closed.  Not everyone knows that clicking the image will expand it.
Also, get rid of the overlays in the profile pages - I think they look chunky and horrible.  Aesthetics plays a very important part of first impressions and this method looks like an afterthought.
Other than that everything else is great 😊

That is a beautiful guitar! Great stories too, thanks for sharing.

The closest I got to being in a band was with friends at school.

I played in a band for over 15 years and my guitar of the moment was a Gibson Flying V MK2; it was unique in that it had single coil boomerang pickups which gave it a really distinctive sound that everyone who saw us play had to come up and comment on the fact.  I looked at this guitar for six weeks before being seduced into buying it.

All of the trimmings, including the tuning pegs, were gold plated giving it a look that was stunning.  The image above is the same as I had, there was another in maple, but the mahogany was the apple of my eye.
At 65 now I don't play at all, but still have the memories, photos and tracks we laid down.  I sold the guitar when we disbanded, for many different reasons (none of them acrimonious); I still hanker after those amazing times, but arthritis in my hands prevents me from even forming a chord.  Happy days - image below of one of those moments in time that last an eternity.

Top notch statement of facts regarding privacy and anonymity on forums vs social media platforms.  This is one of the issues that I promote to people when they consider joining; THEY are in control of what is and is not seen.
This is why I prefer forums to any other kind of social interaction between people; the opportunities of flexibility are almost endless with forums, whereas social media is rigid and contrived.
I believe that this is an important and relevant statement in a world where privacy almost often comes with a price, but not on forums; it's been there since day one and remains today - it's a shame that more people out there do not realise and appreciate this simple fact.
Great article and one which I will happily link to and promote from my own site. Thanks Matt, job done!

Classic favourite is Yankee Doodle Dandy featuring James Cagney - I love all Cagney movies but this one is a stand out for me.
Anything in the Sci-Fi/Fantasy vein after that as long as it is well acted and well produced; such as The Matrix series, Judge Dredd (the Karl Urban version), most of the Star Trek Movies, same with Star Wars and Stargate.
Currently, most of the Marvel and DC iterations of the various characters - most recently I thoroughly enjoyed Wonder Woman and Avengers Infinity Wars Pt 1.
I never get to the cinema these days so everything is either streamed or on DVD that I watch.
Always a good question to ask 👍
