Hexsplosions got a reaction from USCJ Digital in [Solved] Slow image loading in 4.4.0
    It is disabled by default.
The setting was originally not as granular as this, you either served images from your local server or you didn't. The reason it was useful was when your site used HTTPS whilst other sites did not, which could result in security alerts to end users. Serving images from your local server solved this problem. In 4.4.0 you have more control over this and can elect to only serve insecure images from your local server, which makes sense as you can save your own resources by not serving images that are already secure. The problem that I encountered was that there was a stark difference in speed between images served from my local server and images served from third party sites.
I've reverted to serving all images from my local server to preserve speed.

After upgrading the IPS 4.4.0 and making changes based on its new features, I was inundated with complaints of slow loading images and grey placeholders persisting for anything up to 10 seconds.

It turns out that there's nothing wrong with IPS 4.4.0 or my hosting, but that by changing this to only serve insecure images via my server meant my members got to experience true load times of their image hosting services, such as Flickr, Dropbox, etc.
Changing this back to 'All Images' solves the issue completely.
I thought I'd share this experience in case anybody else suddenly gets reports of slow-loading images in threads, so you don't waste time diagnosing issues with IPS, Lazy Loading or your own hosting.

There are plenty of long-term developers for IPS who have dark themes available and who have provided long-term support. I can name @ehren. as one such example. I've been running communities for at least 15 years and have been an IPS customer for about 10 of those. I've only ever really been let down when I failed to do my research.

Hexsplosions got a reaction from Joel R in Modify Quotes when original changes
I'd be very concerned if quoted text changed based on the original content being changed. It would confuse members, make moderation much more onerous and, as @Rikki said, change the meaning of responses to quoted text after the event.

Cats are awesome... I've changed my mind and I now support this proposal. 😎

Personally, I don't think that's fair on the person who has quoted you. It could substantially change the meaning of their response. I think the quote needs to show what you had said at the time you were quoted.

We include a statement on our privacy policy that data submitted in personal messages is still liable to being made public. In other words, don't submit data you wouldn't want in the public domain.
I'd simply ignore and ban any troll sending a message like that.

I've seen a huge increase in completed profiles since the launch of that feature, however not so much an increase of actual new user participation. Whilst it's great to see more new users taking the time to complete their profiles, this yields little long-term benefit if they don't actually contribute.
I'd like to see the ability to prompt contributions included as part of the 'complete your profile' feature. It could include such options as:
Make a post Perhaps allow admins to configure a forum for this to go in, such as an introductions area Start a blog Upload an image Comment on something Purchase something Upload a file etc. Thanks

I'd like this, too.  Having more built-in engagement related features is always a plus.
My current workaround is using the built-in quick registration along with an awards application to force members to upload a photo during registration.  This in turn grants them an award and lets them know those awards/achievements exist and help promote activity that way.  Who doesn't like earning achievements for simple tasks?!  ?

I've bumped this today via the gamification blog post. IMO, this feature falls just short of greatness based on the lack of encouragement of new members to contribute. I'd love to see the functionality extended.

Nope. I've seen email addresses, telephone numbers, personal enquiries, all posted publicly via status updates. People don't take the time to read descriptions like that, they see a field on a profile and proceed to use it.
I disable status updates on every installation. I don't see the point of the feature unless there's an attempt to mimic social media. ?

I would like to see the create menu also in mobile view.
In my opinion, I would exchange the sign out button with a create content button and move the sign out link into the account menu, like it is in desktop view.

In the future, how would you guys like to know when services are removed or added?
Email only offers around a 20% open rate, so it can’t be guaranteed to be read.
We do put things on the forum, but not everyone reads them.
I’d like to hear your ideas.
I know there’s a few upset at is removing an email service that often didn’t send emails or got you blacklisted. It wasn’t done on a whim. We had hundreds of support tickets about how unreliable it was. We spent hundreds of man hours trying to figure out why emails weren’t being sent or people were validating without clicking links. Or why people were being reported as a spammer, etc.
The bad service and increasing support overhead for that bad service forced us into dropping it.
No amount of shouting, capital letters or foot stomping is going to see it returned.
We care about our customers too much to put them through that experience again.
