This thread is a good reminder of the diversity of users. I haven’t thought about post numbers in decades. Would never have thought some people are so passionate about this topic. Certainly a curiosity to me as to why people are so hung up on them, but that’s what makes this community interesting!

There is no legitimate reason anyone or any organization should be using IE. If you have users stuck on it, that sucks, but it’s akin to having users tell you they unfortunately are stuck on 14.4k dialup and find the site loads too slowly.
IE is dead. Let it Rest In Peace.

It sound like the criticism is “if it’s not perfect and complete at the start, it’s pointless in general”.  They are just starting out with it!
Monetization, messages, more native app views and so on. I am sure it’s on the road map or will be put there if we need it.
By the way: you can already add more than just forums. I just added a Pages article section and it works just fine.

Nailed it! It's got to have some starting point.
I think the notion that if it doesn't work for everyone right off the bat, it's not worth developing. Couldn't disagree more 🙏

I run an education/academic community, so I’m not sure how accurate that is. It’s not trolls persay that are the problem for us, it’s people wanting to try out different opinions or perspectives and see the responses. Or people trying to deviously show support for their original comment. It’s not trying to specifically troll the site, they just don’t understand how toxic that behavior can be to a community.
You’ll never stop everyone, but the goal should not be perfect detection, just another piece of data to help make informed moderation decisions.

Morgin got a reaction from AlexWebsites in VIDEO/CAM/CHAT APP for IPS Community
Supporting video chat requires a platform and company that is probably at a minimum twice the size of Invision is currently just to deal with the rapidly changing landscape and support requirements.
There’s a reason companies that succeed try to focus on doing a few things extremely well vs. trying to do everything and having half baked and poorly supported versions as a result.
I’d love for Invision as a company to be so successful that they could grow into other markets, but at the moment they are doing a great job of community software. Stepping up to try to compete with Microsoft Teams, Zoom, etc. to provide a video chat solution would not be a great outcome without a few hundred million in cash to burn to hang with the big players are try to hive off market share.

Morgin reacted to OptimusBain in generate PDF invoice and download all invoices by date range
    Hello everyone,
I don't know about you, but as a forum owner selling subscription plans and products, I will have to generate lot of invoices and download all of them. However ACP will not do any of that, I know IPS is not an accounting software but it just doesn't have the minimum requirements to get the work done to deliver to the accountant.
I don't know about other forum owners selling products and subscriptions, but I have from 500 invoices every quarter. And there is not a way to download all the invoices, not even the possibility of manually generating a PDF of a single invoice 😞 😞
I don't know about other countries but where I live in Spain, and in many other countries, you have to deliver all the invoices every quarter. I will send them to the accountant, those with VAT and those without VAT and then he will do the magic to pay the taxes to the government.
What is IPS missing? A few basic functinalities. I am not asking for a complex accounting software, it's way beyond the scope of this message, but IPS doesn't even generate a PDF of an invoice and that's very sad. It can only print, cancel, redund or delete. Print will generate and HTML page that you "could use" to print it as PDF. But it's not the same, nothing to do with a PDF template with a fixed width and layout. IPS doesn't have any of that.

These are the basic functionalities that it should have.
Generate PDF invoice for every single payment or invoice Ability to attach the PDF invoice in the email sent to the user that paid for a product or subscription plan Bulk download all PDF invoices at once with a single click. See attachment. It's the online payment software I am currently using, it has all that a much more. and it's just a membership software. But at least I can generate the PDF and download all of them at once PDF template to generate a professional looking template. The Print invoice function is far from that Filter payments/invoices by dates so that the invoices for the last quarter or month can be downloaded and sent to the accountant. There is an actual search for invoices that filters them out by date, the bulk pdf invoice would be needed
Like I said above, I don't know how other forum owners selling products do it but you just can't sell products in my country and not paying the taxes for each and every country they are being sold to. And ACP is missing three very basic functions: generate PDF, download PDF, download all PDF invoices.
Thanks a lot for reading me. Have a great day and stay safe

I would add that the invoice would need an editor to control how everything looks and what is actually shown. Both to make it compliant with legal requirements and branding requirements. The default IPS invoice is extremely simple.
At the moment, I am dealing with every purchase manually and add them to my own invoice program, but that is a lot of unnecessary work.

I have a user who asked for their username to be changed as their registration name gave away too much personal info. I did so, but I understand there is an issue whereby the old name still shows up in previous threads where that user was quoted and cannot be directly edited.
Is there any way to rebuild a topic so that the quotes use the newer updated username?

There is no built in option to do this I'm afraid.

Morgin got a reaction from optrexnz in Better representation of a banned user
As a bit of an aside, @Adriano Faria developed this plugin for me to handle sending PMs to members who reported messages to let them know action had been taken.
My specifications asked for it to use the PM system to send a reply, but as I've used this, I've discovered that a better approach would have been to use the notification system - send a notification once the report is submitted to say "we've received your report- thanks!" and then send a notification once action is taken to be like "your report has been actioned - thanks for helping keep the community friendly" or something like that. People don't need a PM persay, they just need some visual indicator that their report didn't go into the ether.  It might be worth seeing if Adriano would be willing to enhance this plugin to let you choose between using the PM system and using notifications. Doesn't get you all the way there of having a badge for showing a user is banned, but might be helpful regardless.

I agree in part. With the plugin I asked Adriano to develop, the intent was not to share any information about what the outcome of the report was (especially if it led to suspending another user), but to provide an ability to easily thank or communicate gratitude to the reporter. The vast majority of my reports aren’t related to specific user infractions - usually it’s reporting spam, mistakes, double posts, etc. I liked the idea of trying to generate more faith in the reporting system but not making it such a black hole. I will say 90+% of the use I get from it is sending a default thanks message for reporting spam. Just a nice touch that lets people know their report mattered and improved the community. It’s a bit of a feedback loop too - the more people feel like the reporting system actually matters, the more they use it, and the better my community is. Everyone wins!
I will say too that this is similar to what Facebook and Twitter do. If you report a tweet, you eventually get confirmation when an action is made. This is helpful to know whether there is any value in using reporting tools or not.

What specifically do you want them to do? Not just a buzzword like PWA - PWA is just a descriptor for numerous frameworks and web technologies, some of which are already supported. What do you specifically want them to work on next?

@TheWorldNewsMedia.org I'm not interested in this topic, or any debate.  Aiming your misguided tone toward me, however, is sorely misplaced. I don't drink the kool aid, and you assuming I do based on a contributor tag is short sighted and, frankly, insulting.
I made it clear IPS could do better with mobile in my comment. They also haven't ignored it. They may not yet have an answer for the feature set your looking for, but they haven't ignored it. The point of my comment, quit with the whining about mobile and do what you need for your community first.
IPS has stated they aren't ignoring mobile, yet for some reason people like yourself keep belaboring on a topic focused on a specific mobile approach, PWA.
Instead, would it not be more constructive to focus on the feature set you're looking for? Mobile, that's a broad topic... What about mobile are you wanting solved? Leave out the HOW, and focus on the specific WHAT you need solved.
