Bugs are reported via Support tickets created from Client Area. Public bug tracker is no longer available.

My only problem with the Quote is that once you expand, you can't hide again.
Especially on mobile, when I'm trying to scroll up or down to prior posts, hiding a long quote helps.

That sounds reasonable - but if you want an actual instance then my own issue is one to view.  Uploaded a theme, works great, then for some reason it starts acting funny and there is no apparent reason for it doing so.  Uninstalling the theme and reinstalling it resolved the issue, however I lost all my customisations in the process and had to redo them, not a major incident but one which could have been resolved with a simple reinstall of the files. I'm not sure if you're aware of this issue, but it basically meant I could not see a database in the pages app and when trying to add, remove or reposition blocks on the front page I got this error:

I understand that these irregularities may not be something that occurs frequently, but just having that little button that says 'Reapply Files' would be a boon and it would potentially cut down tickets and having to contact app authors, many of whom take a long time to respond and many are often in different time zones making any useful dialogue difficult. But thanks for offering an olive branch of hope 🙂

Maybe we should ask why there is no such option. Is there any reason?

Luuuk got a reaction from Dan Korn in Option to set a default Code syntax highlighting
    Hi,
Please consider adding a simple admin option to choose the default Code syntax highlighting. HTML being preselected just doesn't fit to many communities and it is so unhandy to select manually something different each time the Code is inserted. Also, users are submitting content fast without even bothering to change the syntax from the menu and I have a lot of work to edit their posts.

Thank you for this plugin @Pete T, do you have any plans to update it so that you can select which devices it shows to? e.g. I could exclude mobile. This visibility option is a core setting in 4.5. so I guess it should hopefully be relatively easy to add that feature into it? All of the other widgets I have have it, please would you be able to add it if possible? It would be great 🙂

Completely agree with this - if there is a security risk then there is a flaw in the code, and it should be fixed regardless; that's the ethical thing to do.
It's always, as far as I know, been a requirement to have an active license to access the Marketplace, but then it was always possible to download your purchases and use them whenever it suited.  Install, uninstall, some like the feature, some don't and so on. But now it appears that you MUST have an active license to access your purchases and no download option is available. I believe, rightly or wrongly, that this is not an acceptable way forward for people buying from third parties as you are buying from them and not from IPS but IPS removes that ability to download thereby, in some estranged way, holds you hostage to renewing your lPS license to access your purchases - this seems very wrong to me.  Of course, it is IPS's business and they can do what they like, but that doesn't necessarily make it right.
I'm sure that for most people this isn't a huge concern, but it is a strange way of conducting business.

I do agree that disaster recovery plans should be part of everyone's routine, but it's not always that cut and dried and people are sometimes either lazy, blaze or just don't know how to do this, therefore if a reinstall is required the resources purchased should always be available whether an active license is in place or not.  This is not about backups or anything like so, it's about taking ownership of what has been purchased and that purchase is available whenever it is required; at present with 4.5.x that is not possible.  It's like buying a car and not being able to take it to who you want for a repair or service other than the dealership that sold it to you and they ask for a fee to ensure continued use of what you have already paid for.

What about if some just wants to do a refresh and start again?  There will always be pros and cons and there will always be those who will provide an answer that is not necessarily something that others are prepared to carry out or have the ability to do so, for whatever reason.  The point here is that you have purchased something from a third party that is now conditional on having an active IPS license if you want to use it again

That is the point, there is no reason to deny downloading as well as using the Marketplace in the ACP - this is not an 'instead of' but an 'as well as'.
That's severe and a little over the top, but I do understand the sentiment lol.

Having the marketplace inside of the application in the ACP is a good idea, but - access to the marketplace is governed by having a current license renewal in place.  This means that if a license has expired and the user does not wish to renew at this point in time (for whatever reasons), if their site has a catastrophic failure and they need to reinstall from scratch, the applications they have purchase which need to be reinstalled, what happens to them?  Will they be available in the ACP or will they need to renew their license before they can access what they have paid for?
I believe that the option to install from the ACP should be retained as it's helpful, but the option to download what you have paid for should also be made available.  After all, it is we the users who have paid for this app or plugin.  Thoughts?

This is for IPS software and services, nothing to do with third party applications.  The Marketplace is an optional addition supplied as a point for buying third party resources for which IPS takes a commission from each sale.  It has been stated elsewhere that IPS barely break even with the Marketplace in terms of server resources, space, administration etc., but that's between IPS and the third-party developers.  When we 'buy' a resource we are buying from the third party not IPS, so IPS should not have control over our ability to download that purchase whenever we feel like and for as long as IPS retains the Marketplace and we pay renewals to the third-party as part of the overall purchase for support and updates.
As it stands right now, there is no visible way to download any third-party purchase we make as it must be installed from the ACP. For previous iterations of the IPS software before 4.5.x those resources purchased can be downloaded.
I understand the reasoning behind the ACP Marketplace, and it is handy to be able to install direct, but as in your quote above access to that resource is conditional on having an active license, so that obfuscates the ability to install your purchases and you have no recourse to pay for renewals of the IPS software to get access to what you have paid for, thereby preventing you from reinstalling from a downloaded copy.
As someone who will always have an active license I have no issue with this, but if ever there came a time when I could not afford a renewal fee and I hit an issue with my site and just wanted to do a refresh, I'd be stuck.  In many ways I'm playing Devil's Advocate for those who may come across this limitation.  Some clarification from IPS would be good to have so people understand what they are buying into.

I see too much criticism here for the theme and the white space. UX is always a matter of discussion, and everyone has its personal tastes. Now try to put personal tastes aside, because everyone has his own ones.
Do you have any UX test metrics other than "i don't like it" to present to support your views?
My opinion is, this new theme is  great improvement over the previous one. Is it perfect? No, specially mobile-wise topic page navigation (you have to completely scroll down or up to move to next page, which is not user friendly, for example - surely this can be measured) but regarding the white space, i like it. It helps the text to "breath", and allow better reading. It doesn't bother me at all. My personal taste here, as valuable as anyone's.
This is not a challenge of "how much content can be put in the screen". Simplicity is beautiful. Crowded interfaces confuse users.
Thumbs up for the overall improvements that the IPS has put in the 4.5 theme. I could not use the 4.x theme directly without customizations, but 4.5 theme is good enough for it.

No one said or tried to say it was a legal requirement (though it really is for Federal institutions, they cannot use software that does not follow certain ADA requirements by a Federally mandated law) that is not and was not the point. I have a handicapped adult child so I'm aware of how difficult many software applications are. Not trying to say the program needs massive changes to support ADA.
My point is/was that the ID tag number being shown @Mr 13 does in fact (in my opinion) provide the exact same purpose of a visual cue that post # have/had in the past. I've manually edited our forums to show it. All I'm providing is FEEDBACK which is the purpose of this forum. It would be very nice if allowing this to be shown by some setting within the ACP so that users did not need to manually edit their code.
As for the date in every post providing a permalink I'm sorry you just don't seem to understand what people are talking about. VISUAL cue just like I created all uppercase. You don't have to copy anything, you don't have to click a special button. You easily see there is something. Telling someone go find post where the date says Posted August 13 does nothing for anyone as there could be several posts made on that date. Why people are complaining it is a PITA to have to now copy and paste a special link to refer to.
    In my example here

I can tell the user to check out post ID 393 and most people can very easily find that number in the topic thread. I didn't have to copy, quote, or paste anything.
If you don't wish to add such a feature that is your choice but to tell people they don't need it is YOUR personal opinion which may or may not be shared by others.

Yes, the code provided by Mr 13 does in fact work @BankFodder . We have implemented it on our forums. I do agree though that making it an option or available to Administrators from within the ACP would be nice. Thank you @Mr 13
Regardless of how one views it Visual cues are sensory cues received by the eye that many people process and understand better than text or menus.
Referencing a post or ID# seen onscreen without having to copy or quote and paste it would help reduce clutter as well as I would find it difficult to believe that making a handicapped person perform an additional 3 or 4 more clicks to obtain or reference the same thing would meet muster for the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA)

It seems like it would be a no brainer to number posts within a thread for easier reference but I don't see an numbers in IPS?  As a matter of fact, how would you even permalink a post if you needed to?  The only way I see possible is by using the Share>Email link as a permalink but that takes a few steps to access...

I’m not seeing that. WordPress and Joomla are free and used by millions. It’s a rather different situation than with a proprietary commercial software package like the IPS Community Suite. If IPS makes money with it each installation, unpaid contributions are less likely than with free software.
What kind of site are you running where you need many languages? The vast majority of communities have one dominant language for the content and so that (and only that) language is really needed for the interface as well. Even if I have users from many areas of the world, I don’t need to and don’t want to provide other languages just for the interface. That only creates a weird language mix on every page.

I don't think we need anything like 'Stories" in IPB, I still can't figure out what the Status Updates age good for!  My members seem to get confused and try to post regular posts in the status updates, they treat Blogs as regular posts instead of creating blog type posts...I'm sure stories would just be misused as well!  As a matter of fact, I wish there was a way to convert status updates and blog posts into regular threads, but that is a different topic!
I strongly believe that forums need to COMPETE with social media but NOT BECOME social media!

We have talked about hashtags a lot internally over the years.

The core issue is that we're just not sure how useful they are on a forum. They work on Twitter because it's the only way to create a 'channel' of similar discussions. There is no other way to separate out conversations. So adding the tag makes it clear you're talking about that topic.

Obviously, with a forum you have categories, forums and topics. Adding a hashtag would be largely superfluous.

We have a tagging system for content already, and I would say that 98% of Invision Communities do not use it, and of the 2%, a small handful use it in a meaningful way that aids content discovery.

Hashtags are often mistyped further diluting the usefulness. Using your example, on twitter I've seen:

    #blacklivematter
    #blacklivesmatters
    #blm
    #blackouttuesday

Twitter actually is smart enough to know these are largely the same topic, so you will often see something like:

    Trending
    #Blacklivesmatter
    Also talking about: #blm, #blackouttuesday

That's a great system but takes a lot of AI/human collating and computing power.

So our current position is simply that adding hashtags won't really increase content discovery in any meaningful way.

Facebook has hashtags but almost no one uses them.

Most hashtags are added for irony, like:

We're not going to add hashtags into 4.5

    #sorryNotSorry

This creates a bunch of records and consumes a chunk of computing power and database size for almost no purpose at all.
