It's waffle, Jordan. It's the equivalent of "Look at this shiny thing over here while we sh*t on your doorstep" in internet terms. I've kept schtum about things on here for years, but this is getting to be the final straw.
And don't reply to me with the "I feel you" waffle, please.

I don't understand this at all. What do you mean there was no great way to communicate this?

Bottom line: You didn't communicate these changes effectively at all, and you didn't learn from the last time(s) you didn't communicate effectively.
What will the next surprise be that you don't communicate effectively to your customers be?

    1. You chose to update your website and the price that your existing customers pay before emailing them. It's not really about what is posted on here. And you make it sound like emailing 'thousands' of clients is a difficult or time consuming process. Which of course it isn't, beyond writing the email, which could have been done weeks ago, unless you made the prices up on the spot this morning.
    2. You're probably going to have to drop the 'barely any clients use this forum' line to justify the lack of reasonable communication on offer, now you're only offering support through it to the majority of your clients.
I'm broadly supportive of the price rise, but can you not just admit that the way it's been communicated has been poor and stop spinning it. It would be so much easier to believe the 'we want to be transparent' pr type guff then.

    In 2017 I paid 550$ for this:

Now it's increased near 50%, the renewal went from 190$ to 280$ / year.
For me, the price increase is still bearable, as long as my income from the forum does not drop significantly. But for hobby communities, such prices are probably harder to bear. By the way, these hobbyists are free advertising media for Invision, as they promote their product. Ultimately, new forum operators orientate themselves on the platforms in which they themselves are active. If they disappear from the market, this advertising also disappears. Another very important aspect is the existing add-ons of a forum platform provider, these are and always have been a driving force for a successful community, see vBulletin. Some developers have already spoken out about the price increases. If this price increase causes them to turn away from Invision, this will also lead to lower licence sales in the long term. So this new development could lead to a downward spiral.
I don't understand why developers as important as openfont and Adriano have to pay licence fees at all, because without them Invision would certainly not be where it is now. Without developers, without high quality addons, no customers, to put it bluntly. Just because of a few hundred dollars more revenue you risk losing everything you have built up over the years. This is not a wise decision because the developers are the be-all and end-all of any successful forum platform.

The higher prices will have a big impact on the Marketplace too.
    - Many ppl will leave IPS -> less sales in the MP.
    - The ones that don't leave won't invest as much as before in addons.
    - Less addon sales will make devs switch to other platforms.
    - Less and bad supported addons will frighten new customers
(that and the high prices for the basic backage of course).

Again, change comes very slow, and often we get things we never asked for.  "Pay us lots of money and wait to see what you get..."  I don't think so.
I am not a happy customer at this time and still feel this was done to suit the big customers.
Moving to your online plan is not an option for me.
Like others have said, we have options, and it looks like many of us will exercise those options.

I knew the prices would rise with this site relaunch, but I expected more a generous correction for inflation for new orders (not renewals). But the changes are far from slight. And for people like me who have many licenses, it actually threatens my entire business, because the price change is multiplied by the number of licenses. And the new terms make it all even worse. For my oldest license, I had an upcoming renewal of $85 as the last payment in this financial year. Now that jumped to $310—well over 300%! Yes, it’s for 12 months, but I still need to pay it NOW without having earned this money through the site or even planned for it. And even if would manage with this one site, I certainly can’t manage it for 5 self-hosted licenses and their upcoming renewals.
And it didn’t had to be this way. There is the established system of grandfathering existing prices while only charging more for new customers for example. Or it could be a slow transition that is announced a year or two in advance, so we could have prepared for it someone. Dropping these drastic price and terms changes on us like a bomb, effective and possibly charged immediately, was a bad move.

"we want to be as transparent as possible"
So springing a wild price increase out of the blue is being as transparent as possible, is it? What utter nonsense.

I've done it - removed my payment method and exploring other options. No one likes price rises, but when people are still recovering from the pandemic this is like a sledgehammer blow.  It's also going to affect devs who supply much needed apps in the marketplace; if people start leaving then their revenue is going to slip and then they may leave too.  It's a slippery slope IPS has ventured into and may be something to regret later. I just bought another license this year for another project, now that's on the bonfire until I find another solution.  Talk about being hit between the eyes!

Please give everyone six month's notice before implementing yearly renewals considering you are also raising prices at the same time.  This should allow folks time to implement various fundraising schemes to cover the increased renewal fees and the necessity of paying yearly rather than twice a year.

    I hate the new look.
I bought this to reset it the way it was.  Works perfectly.  Frustrated we have to pay someone else to restore items we had.

It is a shame : that's not good for our communities performances neither because we'll put cache time to 1 minute, that will reduce global performances to face something that was not a problem on previous major versions... And despite reducing global performances, we'll not completely solve the problem...
Somebody knows how to -manually- patch the code ? there must be some flag to set to false in order to disable caching on those modules ?

Why doesn't showing online users affect performance in other forum engines? Enabling caching is not a "problem" solution.
Let the forum administrators decide for themselves what affects performance and what doesn't. The Who's Online block must have a separate caching setting to be able to completely disable caching. My current caching setting is 1 minute, but I still get constant complaints from users that they don't see themselves in this block. With caching enabled, this block is absolutely useless and inconvenient (like the "Recently Browsing" block in topics, which now does not display anyone at all).

Which means it's practically useless now as it will always be giving false readings - I understand the performance impact issue, but how much of an issue is it if it wasn't an immediately obvious noticeable impact before it was introduced.  If it's cached then how often is the cache updated and would be an idea to give admins an option as to how often it gets updated and allow them to decide what impact on performance it has 🙂

@Jordan InvisionI dropped by the Release Notes page and noted that the 4.6.5.1 version had been released today.  I went over to the client area and it shows that 4.6.5.1 was released yesterday.  I looked at the date of the install files in my archive folder and noted I had already downloaded 4.6.5.1 on 7/28/2021.
Why are you showing a new release date for a version you released two weeks ago? If you released an updated version why didn't you change the version number and alert the ACP that a new version is available to update to?

No, as that query isn't going to do any conversion.
Run the query, it gives you a series of 'ALTER...' statements that you then run against the database yourself.

I am on 4.6.2 and got notice in admin cp that i should use InnoDB instead MYISAM -
Can i use this query to convert whole database at once or my convert table by table?
    SET @DATABASE_NAME = 'name_of_your_db'; SELECT CONCAT('ALTER TABLE `', table_name, '` ENGINE=InnoDB;') AS sql_statements FROM information_schema.tables AS tb WHERE table_schema = @DATABASE_NAME AND `ENGINE` = 'MyISAM' AND `TABLE_TYPE` = 'BASE TABLE' ORDER BY table_name DESC; Maybe you have beter suggestion? Can i leave MyISAM mean stay on it?

Right now it really is just the same very small selection of choices over and over again. Doesn't need to be genuinely random, just some way to not constantly cycle through the exact same images.
