Hello,
Members often send PDF, ZIP, IP-Downloads without illustrations. I have to edit each topic to add a MIME icon, which takes time.
The idea is that if there is no illustration/icon associated with a document/file in the IP-Downloads, MIME icons will be used. In the administration options, we should be able to choose to add an illustration/icon for each file type. We can also imagine that when the member sends a photo in IP-Downloads, there is an automation for the creation of the illustration based on the photo.
Moreover, this generates many (useless) files on the server. If the file was common to all, it would save space and bandwidth, thanks to caches.

Is it possible to consider adding custom statuses to the orders feature in Commerce? I provide non-physical digital assets and business services, and would really appreciate the ability to assign custom statuses to each order (in progress, pending information, in production, complete, etc.). In terms of general layout, it would be VERY cool if the order would have it's own "forum-style discussion" section, where clients can communicate with me and/or my team regarding that particular order; a process much like the ability to post to a pre-defined forum when creating a database record, for example, would be excellent! My recommended process would offer the ability to choose whether to start a "discussion" section within the order. There are several layers of informational requests I conduct with my clients when progressing through an order, and a discussion is usually necessary in order to fulfill certain types of orders/request(s).
Please let me know if this is something you guys would consider implementing, I'd be very grateful!

In the options to sort the topics in the forum there is no option to sort by no reply.

It would be nice to have that choice : Sort by No Replies

Yes I know this is an intended change – however many people also don't want to give their card number for a free trial, and that could stop them from buying the product right from the beginning – like: « Oh no, I'm not going to give again my credit card number just for trying a new product. » 🙂

I have a suggestion I think IPS is in need of. While adding a product, you're given the flexibility of choosing any subscription term (renewal) you'd like - well, all except one. Lifetime purchases should be added a feature to the product feature instead of limiting it to only subscription plans. It's a huge flaw in my opinion. @bfarber suggested to make a new product that copies the main product, with the exception that it is appended with '(Lifetime)' - this won't work for me for many reasons, and it also seems like a band-aid fix; it'll look very out of place and hacky. I'd like to do this properly by having the lifetime option added natively into the product system instead.

Hey, there is an option to view sales per product in commerce stats but not income per product which I find to be really odd. Is there any plugins for that or am I missing something on the admin dashboard?

And if you are concerned about "basic users" generating problems you could simply make it so it can be turned on/off by using constants.php for example.
(So basic users would not even be able to download plugins.)

And this issue aside i still think ips is the best platform available.
May i make a suggestion on closing?
Why not simply allow downloads parallel to the "idiot install"?
This way there would be no tradeoff but even a gain.

At the end of the day we live in a capitalist society.
So customers and there money decide which companys and products survive.
That being said xenforo already has the by far biggest market share.
I suspect it will go up even more to the disadvantage of the invision power services company, soon.
Given your new business practises i would actually like to see that happen.

The point is with vbulletin 3 for example i can perform a fresh install today.
Then i can go ahead and install the plugins i want. (From packages i downloaded before of sites like vbulletin.org)
You cant do such thing with ips 4.5 in 10 years from now. (i assume)
The marketplace probably does not exist (at least in this form) anymore by then so you wont be able to install anything from it.
And you cant download the full packages anymore since 4.5.
So your basically screwed if you want to perform a fresh install of ips and plugins in like 10 years from now.

Same reason why i never liked linux.
But there you could at least run your own (offline) repository if you want to.
That basically fixes it but is a hassle compared to just downloading one big package which contains
everything (including dependencies) needed to install a software (without downloading stuff off the internet) as it was in windows ever since.
Bevor they started ing it up by implementing a lot of crap starting with version 8 or 10.
Thats why im using Windows 10 LTSC which strips much of that crap + some tweaks.

Think about it.
10 or 20 year old forum software like vbulletin still works like a champ and gets the job done just fine.
Add php 7 support & responsive/mobile support and you would be good to go for 2021.
There would be absolutely no need to buy modern software in most cases.
BUT unfortunately there is no php 7 and mobile support (at least out of the box and up to snuff with ips 4) cause its EOL.
Why? So the developers can charge big for new versions and updates.
Good thing is i probably wont be using ips 4.5 in 20 years from now. (I'd rather still use vb3 and wbb2 by then)
So i guess i can live with whats going one here. I still dont like the direction in that you guys are heading (basically already headed), though

My car is 50 years old too... Still running like a champ. No need to upgrade.
Its actually better than the new crap you can buy today. Its got a big v8 putting out 200hp to the wheels, automatic transmission, ac, cruise control... You name it.

Why would you want to upgrade to an electric vehicle where you have to lease the batteries and where recharging takes HOURS?
These electric vehicles also got no power when going higher speeds.

I then want to manually upload it through the acp to install as i always did for decades.
So question is how do i download plugins to my local hdd?
I do not want to use that app store crap.

Hi fellow developers and members of community. I'm here with a small quality of life suggestion that can slightly improve the usability of forum software in some cases.
The forum software I'm supporting is installed on server without direct internet access. Yes, that's weird, I know. And there's nothing I can do about. But there's a proxy server on internal network that may and should be used for all external connections. As for now I'm bound to implement a hardcode fix after each system's upgrade. All I do is editing the file system\Http\Request\Curl.php around lines 139-145 from this:

So I'm here with a suggestion - I understand that I may be a single one user with such a problem, but maybe developers would find it useful to make their system a bit better by creating a group of system settings named "Proxy" with "Use a proxy for external connections" checkbox and "Proxy IP", "Proxy port", "Proxy type", "Proxy login", "Proxy password" strings, that could be passed into curl settings right there? That wouldn't break anything for existing customers but will provide additional opportunities for others in cost of few additional code lines and one `if` check.

It's absurd that the ONLY caching method Invision utilizes doesn't offer ANY support for it in any way whatsoever.  Absolutely ludicris. There's absolutely no way for most people to use it.
My host provider doesn't know how to install it, and therefore won't support it.  I tried Redis support but they are 100% unresponsive (8 tickets submitted with zero responses).  I even had a friend of mine who knows Apache try without luck.
So, unless you're an experienced server admin, you're screwed.  You simply cannot use Redis.
Major, major flaw with Invision!
 

Reason for asking is that some PC's don't have "Home" button anymore, and it is really annoying not having that button on the page on this site. Most of the forums I visit have installed a plugin that fixes this and that is great, but why not here and why not as part of the software as default?
The new shortcut I need to remember ob this laptop is: Home = Fn + Left Arrow, End = Fn + Right Arrow

I think it is very important to add a check for server free disk space and check also the files size from S3 Cloud before starting the transfering from S3 back to server.
If the available free disk space on the server is not enough for the files that coming from the S3 cloud back then the server will be full and the server will die.
Nothing will work with 0 free space and the user will be in a case that he will not be able to revert that task and the only solution will be to request from the data center extra hard disks to added on the server.
Until then the forum will be down ....

I always have problems with indentation in code inserted into a post. For us, the code box is a critical feature that is heavily used, since we have a programming forum. Would be nice if this worked correctly. It looks like there is a combination of space and tab characters, I'm not sure what is going on.

I know how you feel. It is ridiculous to have to pay so much money just to access the marketplace files you have already paid for. You now have to renew all of your suite's app licenses just to access one marketplace update. And, if you try to get around paying for all of your suite's apps renewals by cancelling some, you then have to pay full price if you ever want them back. I've been holding off on renewing for this reason. Furthermore, as a developer, who wants to have to pay over $100 on renewals (if you own almost all of the official apps) to release one app that maybe has integration with one official app at best?
