Abies got a reaction from Ibai in User profiles - hide unnecessary filtering
    Hello there!
The main purpose of user profiles is to make discovering user's content easier. I've found a way to improve the process a bit.
    1. Content discovery
Let's take a look on my profile and especially on the filtering options:

Problem: It's quite a long list that grows with every new app or a content type. I find it confusing as during my time here I've posted only a topic and some posts.
I don't think I'm able to post anything in the documentation, release notes, providers, guides, IPS Blog etc. But I'm still able to filter my results by those options [basically to get no results note].
Solution: The idea is to hide all the empty-result-filters. Thanks to this we exactly know what type of content certain user posted, and save our time on scanning the long list.

    2. Reputation view
I wanted to check my reputaion activity and this happened:

Problem: The page shows no results. Quite confusing as the sidebar clearly shows that I do have reputation activity. This is because by default the resulsts are filtered by Status updates in which I have no activity. And the list of possible filters is also very long (as stated above).
Solution:  As we have All activity filter in user's content page by default, we should also have All reputation activity filter in user's reputation page. And limiting the possible filters would (as above) make the experience more intuitive and clear.
In my case it would look like this as I have reputation activity in blog entries, blog comments and posts:

    Thanks for reading! 🙂

Just a little suggestion about 'Who's Online'
    For example:
Who is Online: 3 Members, 0 Anonymous, 20 Guests

If there is no anonymous user, system must hide it automatically like:
Who is Online: 3 Members, 20 Guests

or if there are only  guests on forum:
     Who is Online: 20 Guests

It'll be a little better, right?

You could write up about the lamentable help guides which are anything but helpful to those wanting to learn how things work in the IPS arsenal.  For example, there are very few real-world examples of 'how to' - to further this look at custom fields, there is a brief look but no real examples of how you would put those custom fields to use in templates, in various locations and uses etc.  Anyone wanting to learn would need to understand (or be experts) in PHP, HTML, etc when all they want is to add a custom field in a forum, or pages, or a blog.

For a future update would it be possible to add an 'internal link' feature so that the active state of buttons can be applied.  As of now if I want to create a link to a specific category, I have to use the external link option, even though this is actually an internal link; by doing so, as there is no other option, when the menu button is clicked there is no active state showing.
I believe the menu manager could be enhanced to both allow internal links and also have the external link buttons made to look active when clicked.
    With thanks 🙂

In 4.5 we've tried to keep headers consistent, so that buttons are where you expect them to be, there's space for additional buttons as each page/app might require, and so that each page/app can extend the data shown in the header without the whole thing breaking down. In 4.4, this was a problem - sure, on perfect example pages, the follow button worked well in the top right. But using a different app where more buttons need to be shown, or even just having a long topic title, suddenly it wasn't so pretty and usable. The new header is designed to be flexible and extensible according to requirements.
It's pretty easy to take one particular page and find criticisms - but remember we are designing a suite where each page might have some shared functionality and some unique functionality. We have to design components that can work well in more than one perfect scenario.

Yes, it’s my assessment that this layout is well-thought-out. (The one I commented, which was from Pages)
I work as professional web designer for more than 20 years and I customize these Pages templates all the time—inspecting every little detail, checking the flow of content in many situations and at every CSS breakpoint.
Of course if you can’t have an open discussion and need to laugh at people just because they say something you don’t agree with, this discussion ends right here. If all you guys can do is judge a web layout in one desktop view, you know very little of web design and have a lot to learn, but with reactions like the one I quoted you are apparently not willing to. I am out.

Abies reacted to Matt in Invision Stories
    There's a few barriers here.
The technical: to allow 'stories' to be posted, you'll need a fair bit of storage for the videos, you'll also need a queued system to take in raw video and transcribe it into a more friendly and compressed format which is beyond the reach for most self-hosted sites.

The strategic. No one comes here to see what I'm up to. They come here for help with their Invision Communities, or they come here to post advice for others, or to learn how to manage their communities.

Forums are discussion led platforms. The discussion is the star.
Social media are people led platforms. The person is the star.

Allowing random members to upload stories about what they're doing and so on cross-circuits the purpose of a discussion led platform.

Social media is great at being social medial. Forums are great at being forums.

Please add the ability to add a poll to a pages record or by itself as a record. I run a news site, forums are not part of a local news site in general, but the ability to add a poll would be fantastic. Since the software is sold now by app basis, pages would be deserving of this ability imo.
    Thank You
