    Hi,
Before I complain, I want to start off with a nice note. Since joining IPB my users have loved the website, commented on how nice it works compared to VB & I have loved your support. When ever I have a bug or problem you guys usually reply pretty fast, sometimes during the night!
But here is where I am confused, angry & very, seriously sad.
I love IPB. I think it is one of the most solid products in the market, I think it is also the most professional both company wise (how you guys release things when it's ready & not before) and also product wise, it's very professional.
For over a year now, I have STRUGGLED to get to grips with pages. I look at the documentation & it's longer than the bible & not very user friendly at all!
For over a year now I have messaged support asking how to do things in pages & they say I have to come to the forums as it requires custom code! For simple things like adding the article image in the listing page!
For over a year now I have Tried pages, given up... Tried again, given up. There is so much potential in pages - I have seen it on professional website (websites with coders & budget!) but people like me CANT use it.

Why.... WHY can't IPB make pages easier. Why can't there be a wizard or Pre made templates!
Front page templates... Do you wanna display articles like a blog (photo to the side with description beside), or like a polariod (image with description below), or like a grid. 1 main article & then smaller articles below etc. Joomla asks you things like... Display title, date, time, author. Main article: 0-10, Secondary Articles 0-10. Its so easy!
Listing pages... Do you want to display the first image in the article, do you want to display article rating, do you want to display article sorting bar.
Article pages... Have a page builder, similar to what you do with blocks. Where you can create fields on a preview page & move them around/edit them. Currently if I want an image uploaded in an article and displayed to the right of the content, I have to custom format it, look up HTML guides on Google etc.

I just wish IPB could make pages & frontpage more like Joomla. Joomla frontpage is so easy. Then also keep the difficult custom options for people who are more pro & who know what they are doing.
I am so annoyed by the fact I can't easilly create a beautiful looking frontpage & article area, that I am considering going back to another software. Your forum software is so easy to use, but pages is rocket science.

Support won't help me, I have seen users here struggle to create things even when working together and helping eachother, and the only other option is to pay someone tons of money... Please consider making pages easier for noobs. PLEASE
    Danny

it does award them for status updates, it dont for the avatars or cover photos, although this is getting a update soon for milestone / things like that

yes but with this option if the code is unique you would need to make multiple items for each code
this is a different item to the coupons etc, maybe you want to sell a t-shirt then make a item for the can and when the member buys it you will get notified and then you have to send that person the t shirt etc, ( thats a example but it is for anything it just send you a notification in the ACP saying its been purchased now do what you do )
If you wanted something for multiple codes and vouchers etc then you would probably be better with this

yeah course it will , it'll probably be the first one of mine to get updated

Could you redesign the gallery app to look and feel like Redesign the gallery app to look and feel like www.unsplash.com.
the Gallery app is clunky slow dated and old fashion.
Need a better modern 2020 layout with faster Ajax loading of photos without the ugly Lightbox.  example is www.unsplash.com

    Hi,

Currently QA forums have similar approach as StackOverflow. It helps much if comes to real DEV or configuration specific questions and not discussions. However, comparing to StackOverflow the IPB's version misses ability to add comments like in Stack.

Why it is so important? To keep answers as clean as possible. We noticed the answers are often used to ask additional questions, where it would be better to add additional clarification questions under specified answer instead as a reply (answer). Hoping you will consider the request, at least as optional option to activate. Thanks.

SC36DC reacted to Davyc in So sad for 4.5 delay
I can empathise, but like everyone else waiting for 4.5 it would do more damage to release it now if it's not ready to go.  So, whilst it's unfortunate you can't make good of the bad situation we're in now, it would be worse still if a release now would introduce unknowns that could ruin your site altogether.
Just make the most of what you have and do the best you can with the current resources available - patience is a virtue that brings its own rewards.  I was very impatient at one time and things could never happen fast enough, now I just wait patiently and as they say, all good things come to those that wait.

Please could you introduce a feature in the Gallery that allows for zooming-in, panning around and zooming out on the Gallery images displayed?
Kids these days - (by which I mean anyone under 40!) - will not touch a website with a bargepole if they can't even zoom the images... I know, because I have two 20'ish daughters. Both of whom are interested in art and photography, (my website theme). Both of them are staying at home with nothing better to do right now - and I actually have to pay them an hourly rate to even spend any of their precious time on my site!!
None' of their friends are interested, either... If they can't just do that thing with the index finger and thumb to zoom-in and out and pan around images on their cellphones, then they won't waste any further time on the site.
This is a bit of a problem for me...

SC36DC reacted to WP V0RT3X in Using Pages as a Wiki?
Exactly. A page must not contain a database, it can be just a collection of custom blocks and widgets only too, like this https://www.red-dead-online.de/
BUT a page can contain a database too and that's where your content/articles are stored.
For example this is a list of the "pages" that are used on that site and which ones contain a database https://prnt.sc/rzl282
The wiki feature (everybody can edit every article) is only activated on the database called "Wiki".
    Other examples for database permissions:
    - Every registered member can publish content in the database "Guides" and edit his own articles too.
    - But "Videos" (yes, the tube is a pages database too) can be published only by staff member,s because we don't want YouTubers that only come over to promote their channels.

    Thank you very much :)
This is how the wiki-feature of Pages looks like...

If you only want selected people to create/edit articles, just use a regular database and a usergroup with special permissions.

This is a Wiki I created with Pages. Almost everything is based on custom fields (even the progress bars)...
    https://www.red-dead-online.de/wiki/allgemeines/waffen/lancaster-repetiergewehr-r97/
I don't use the markup addon for formatting because I think it's easier for the users when you offer them forms to input their data.

So I've managed to use a number of Marketplace plugins to get a Pages database to behave essentially like a wiki.
But I wanted to edit the template to look more like a wiki. Specifically, I want to move the author tag and reword it.
So instead of "By Jane Doe on x y z" at the top left, I would have "Last edited by Jane Doe on x y z" at the bottom.
Less focus on the author, and also emphasizing that it was an edit, not a post (as I have wiki-style editing enabled.)
How could I achieve this? A custom Pages template? Is there a plugin for it? etc.
My wiki on my site can be seen here: https://argogaming.org/wiki

+1000.  I have a community for enthusiasts of a specific sport.  My community competes for participation and attention against a Facebook group for the same sport.  The Facebook group is crushing my community for daily interactions and up-to-the-minute breaking news type posts.  I think this is due to 2 big things, among others: 1, people are on FB all the time anyway, 2, PUSH NOTIFICATIONS.  Just to level-set, a push notification is one that shows up on your phone or desktop if you allow it, regardless of whether you're currently using that app.  Existing IPS notifications are great, but the user only sees them once they browse to the site.  Email notifications are not a solution and should be minimized for obvious reasons.
Tapatalk is one solution, but IMO it is a non-starter because the look and feel is nowhere as good as the mobile version of IPS, and to get your own branding and ads on Tapatalk you have to pay.  I already pay $70/mo for IPS, that's enough.  Tapatalk is its own ecosystem and they are very much in control of the user experience.
The only things saving my community from being obsoleted by the Facebook group is the sheer fact that a forum is a much better archive of information, and is a more dedicated environment.  The searching and organization cannot be matched by Facebook.  A FB group flows by like a river, and topics are gone and forgotten within a day or so.  There is also no way to monetize a FB group.  My community sells subscriptions which pays for the hosting and the rest we donate to charitable organizations in our sport.  A huge reason FB wins is that dopamine rush from receiving push notifications.
If IPS would provide a push notifications solution, there would be no need for a half-baked 3rd party solution, and it would dramatically improve our forums' ability to compete with Facebook.

This is interesting. I too think it would be beneficial to have push notifications. I would think that a simple app that could display push notifications and then open links in a browser would be fairly easy to accomplish. However, I have never got my feet wet with Android or iOS.
