No problem. Good luck with getting the permissions sorted 🙂

Ah.
Yeah, on our site, supporters don’t get anything extra, we don’t paywall any feature. In our previous software the explicit purpose of the supporter group is just to apply styling.
I’ll see about supporter just being a clone of Members then.

Has anyone heard from the author of this app, and it's plans for 4.7?

The Dark Wizard reacted to teraßyte in Doing Test Conversions
It does tasks depending on the priority (from 1 to 5). If attachments has a higher priority than anything else it will do only that first.
As for the 100% on PMs, given how many you have I doubt it has already rebuilt them only. Most likely a bug in how the complete % is calculated.

The Dark Wizard got a reaction from SeNioR- in Add LanguageTool API as an Integration
Hi IPS,
Today, I'd like to suggest that the company eventually adds the LanguageTool API into IPS Products as an optional integration in Admin > System > Integrations
Here are some relevant links:
Main Site: https://languagetool.org/
API Landing Page: https://languagetool.org/proofreading-api
Actual API: https://languagetool.org/http-api/#/default
LanguageTool is an extremely popular alternative to Grammarly and is open source, has had funding from the EU and so forth. Since the suite is often billed as a platform for businesses to provide support or long form discussion, I think there is merit in having such a thing built into the editor (with a toggle for the user to turn it off or on via their end).

Would it not be setup like any other CDN?

The Dark Wizard reacted to Randy Calvert in cloudfront setup guide
Cloudfront is a CDN (meaning serving content from multiple locations around the world to have static content such as images and stylesheets closer to the end user). S3 is actual file storage.
Regarding Cloudfront, if you're using IPS hosting... it's already using Cloudfront. If you are self-hosted, it's more involved. You need to setup an S3 bucket to store those static files, and get it configured... then configure Cloudfront to use that S3 bucket as the origin.
Even once you have CF setup, you need to evaluate your caching settings to figure out what should be cached and for how long, especially if you're going to use the CDN to serve theme files which get regenerated frequently. (You don't want Cloudfront serving an old version of the JS files for example from cache when your board is expecting a different/changed version.)

I would to suggest the ability for badges to be able to be granted more then once, by either updating the last given date or simply allowing them to multiply on the user's profile.

A reward is an option on posts, which you "reward" someone for doing something. It cannot be assigned via the ACP or automatically so you could use it for what you want but it would include some information on the front-end on random posts and highly manual process.

The Dark Wizard reacted to Ghan in Doing Test Conversions
One thing I discovered during the import is that the database table statistics need to be updated. The query planner was using the wrong index for this query of the convert application:
SELECT ipb_id FROM `convert_link` WHERE ( type IN('core_members') ) AND foreign_id='1667' AND app=1 ORDER BY link_id DESC It was trying to use the "app" index and the query was taking around 3 seconds to execute. After updating table statistics by running ANALYZE TABLE against convert_link, it now runs in 0.0002 seconds.
Likely the statistics got behind because of all the data being inserted quickly.

It will do, however I wouldn't suggest changing these. You are best leaving it as they are and awaiting its completion. There are a significant number of PMs there, so it will indeed take quite some time to complete.

The Dark Wizard reacted to Daniel F in Hump Day: do you use the Clubs feature?
From my own experience it depends on the setup.
There's probably no usage if you're ONLY using forums, but once you use also other content types, it can really help a lot to "categorize" all the different stuff.
I'm also not a fan of allowing people to create their own clubs, instead they can request one which is a just a custom form with a title, description and "internal explanation" field and it's an administrator/moderator privilege, to control this which really helps to avoid the mess.

The Dark Wizard reacted to Nathan Explosion in "Permanently delete content" - a little language tweak could prove useful
When the "Permanently delete content" setting is set to 'x days after it has been deleted', we see the following when content is being deleted:
or
And then, if you happen to go to the Moderator CP and select content in the 'Deleted content' section, you see the following:
If you then change the "Permanently delete content" setting to 'Immediately' - you see those first 2 images again, and poof your content is gone.
Maybe if the setting is set to 'Immediately' then the prompts should be 'Are you sure you want to delete permanently?" in the dialog, and the 'Delete' title on hover should be 'Delete Permanently'?

No.
I'm not sure there is a way for paypal to differentiate what it sends through that gateway link thing. You might need to either create a separate paypal account that is only for the website members, or tell people to not directly donate outside of the website donations to your current address.
It's not really a problem with the app, more a limitation of Paypal.
You could try look around in your paypal settings to see if there is an option to only send the gateway info back to your site if the payee has originated from your website. But I doubt that is an option.
