This is worth noting, actually. I'm not a developer, but I think I remember seeing something about a non-compete clause with Marketplace submissions. For example, when it was announced Status Updates were going away, there was concern that current Marketplace rules would prevent a developer from creating a Status Updates application. Invision responded that they would alter the terms so such an app could be created.
Well, here's the altered terms, lol. With no central Marketplace, developers can create anything they want, even if it does what the core software pretty much already does, but perhaps with a different enhancement or twist.

This is precisely why it was removed. Quoting or copying pasting the share URL is much more direct/consistent.

@Joel R is taking the lead in creating a central location where all devs can list their apps in an organized, marketplace-like, structure.
I'm sure there will be still be a developers forum here where such apps can be announced and discussed as well, just like on every forum software providers site.

You have to use the plugin "Post Numbers" or something like that.
It took a long time to wean some of my users off that, but I'm glad I finally did. The one hiccup with it is that the number you see as a Staff member and the number regular members see will differ if there are Hidden posts in that thread. Then it can get very confusing if people are referencing post numbers. It's better to have them use the Quote/MultiQuote feature instead.

I would like to ask why the structure of the Invision Marketplace couldn't still exist here, but instead of financial transactions and downloads being handled by Invision, just remove the commerce aspect of it and just let it be a "Downloads" directory with hyperlinks back to the author's site. The author could still update the application or theme's description, changelog, and compatible versions here at Invision, and the client would still be able to shop around here where they feel comfortable, and if they find something in your [former] Marketplace, they click through to the authors personal site.
Downloads allows for URL submissions as it is. Why not retain that directory of applications here? What Joel is proposing to do, you could set up in a short amount of time and then it would be almost on autopilot. An existing Invision directory would only increase exposure to the applications that 3rd party devs have created and sell.

We have a bunch of forums listed in our link directory, but I'm not posting a link because it's a different forum software. Similar to WP VORT3X's link directory, but not as many. 😄

This is brilliant, and I hope it gets implemented.
Currently clicking on an achievement takes you to your profile page. That would be sufficient to mark it read.
OR, it could take you to a page that lists the various types of achievements and what is required to obtain them.

Okay, I guess I get it. Other social platforms, such as Facebook, Mighty Networks, Kajabi, and many many more just do it differently. The notifications remain bold until you have physically clicked on them and read the content. When you return to the notifications, the unread ones are still bold. Most have a "Mark all notifications read" button if you want to clear them so they aren't in bold anymore.
Unread Content does work, albeit a bit differently, because Notifications actually show you what you have specifically asked to be notified about, such as followed topic, replies, reactions, etc.
What I usually have to do, is click through to the main notification screen and open each notification in a new tab so that I don't accidently miss/skip a notification - something that would not be a concern if they remained bold until read.
It's a very convenient feature and something many of us get used to, so I offered it up as Feedback because I think it would be a nice enhancement to the product.

... like Facebook and other social platforms do.
On my Invision installation, let's presume I visit my board and I have 15 notifications. I scroll down to #15 and click on it and read that post. Then when I return to the Bell icon at the top of the page to open my notifications again, they are all marked read. Couldn't just #15 be marked read and the remaining unread notifications still be in bold type and very clear that they are notifications that have yet to be clicked on?

75 pages long, but no new replies since November 2022.
There's probably a decent mix of abandoned projects and dead links among them, but it would be a good place to start.

If it was to change, I'd change it so the red bubble goes the second you click on the icon to see the notifications, but they would stay bold until you read the source item. However, we'd need to make a decision about what to do with pure notifications like "Rank X achieved!" which has no linked item.

If 15+ people have quoted you that will very quickly become annoying though.
Currently say I've had members quote 3, the bubble says 3 and I can see clearly the 3 quoted posts as it has a different background colour. I click it, and click the first quoted post, the bubble goes BUT, when I click that dropdown again, the backgrounds have all been marked as read despite only reading one post.
The two remaining quoted posts should still show as unread. (but the bubble should not appear, as there are none new since last clicking it.)
    Hope that makes sense
Basically keep it as it is, but keep the background colour noticeably unread on the dropdown list for those I've not checked.

We’ve gone back and forth on it but I’m leaning towards the suggestion here to mark as read when read.

I have to agree - it would be better if they were marked off individually. Them all being immediately marked as read in the notifications dropdown is unexpected behavior and certainly inconvenient.

So I just looked at the Provider Directory and visited their links. Some of them only do custom work. Some of them have some work to do on their sites. But your regular marketplace contributors like @opentype @Adriano Faria @Miss_B all have very well developed Marketplaces of their own on their respective sites.
I could care less if I am getting a 3rd party app/plugin or theme from outside the marketplace, but it was nice to have a one stop shop to search for what's available.
I was thinking of the exact same thing but you beat me to it. 😉
