Day_ reacted to opentype in EU cancellation policy
I applies to companies world-wide offering goods and services to EU citizens. It’s not a matter of the company being subject to local law, it’s a matter of wanting to to business with citizens of certain countries. Just as you cannot import illegal goods into a country independent of having a subsidiary in that country. Digital goods and services fall into the same category. Enforcement of these rules is a different matter, but claiming it wouldn’t even apply is factually wrong.
Please don’t add unnecessary side debates to this. You don’t have to get involved with every discussion here, you know?

Surely on a site with ads, if they're slowing it down then it's the js in the ads doing it?

So CSS wasn't the speed issue?

All sounds great, except you do miss a couple of pretty important points.
    1. If a site passes the core web vitals test, that's the limit of potential ranking improvements as far as Google is concerned. So, if you really do have a faster site in terms of your scores than other Invision sites, since a stock build on reasonable hosting will also pass those tests, you've no advantage.
    2. A higher score on one of those speed tests may only equate to <100ms of real world difference to a user. Which they won't notice.
So, on that basis, is it worth the time, effort and/or cost, or would spending that on things that do make a real difference be better? It's up to you to decide if course, but I know what I'd rather do.
And in the meantime, Invision can continue to modernise the platform and tidy up the js and CSS as they've said they will.

I didn't say it would hurt, and it won't hurt. But, if there are only so many hours in the day for you, as someone running a site, I'd imagine you'd prefer to be doing something which moves the dial for your users, traffic and so on. And in my opinion, that doesn't involve messing about with css and the like to shave a few ms here and there and get better test scores.

Day_ got a reaction from Lindor in Moderation Alerts - Required Option
Moderation alerts are great, much needed new feature, however I would like a little bit of control over them if possible.
I want to promote full transparency with members in how we moderate the forum, so I don't want the moderators to have a choice to send an alert or not, nor do I want them to remain anonymous.
I understand some communities are happy with the options, so I'm not asking this to be forced on every community, just given some options within the admin panel to as I say, make the alerts a required option when performing moderator tasks, also removing the anonymous option.
Whilst I have asked the moderators to ensure they do use alerts, I have no way in knowing if they are or not.
To throw an example out there, if I see a hidden post, then it's repeated a few minutes later, I would warn the member for posting content that they knew had been removed.
Say in this instance the moderator forgot or chose not to alert the member, that could be seen as a harsh warning as they were simply not aware, possibly under the impression it didn't post to the forum correctly.

Altering CSS styles isn't going to increase your website speed, not to the point where it actually matters or is noticeable.
I tend to find metric sites like the ones mentioned do nothing more than send you down a massive rabbit hole. You get to the point where you become obsessed with getting the prefect score and nothing else matters.
I find the score they are asking you to hit is ludicrous, especially when Google doesn't even follow their own standards. Google Ads is the biggest offender to my so-called 'perfect score'.
What will increase your speed is proper optimizations. These are generally more associated with bad PHP coding, slow database queries, poor caching methods, element blocking and lots of hooks and applications.
Does your server have enough resources such as CPU, Memory etc, and is it configured correctly and optimized? Have you dealt with bad bots, script kiddies and scrappers who are hitting your server, sucking up more resources further sucking up your resources!
A lot of people tend to throw everything and the kitchen sink on their front page, and wonder why it is slow compared to other websites.
Trust me, CSS styles are at the bottom of my list when it comes to optimization. If you honestly think that using margin: 5px 10px; over margin: 5px 10px 5px 10px is going to make any difference to your FTTB, then you have gone down that rabbit hole, my friend.
As I've always said, when Google give a crap about their own coding standards, I will give a crap about mine's, especially when it comes to their metric scores.
While I don't agree with this decision, I do understand it, as there is no need to edit the core CSS styles when you can just override via the custom file.

On mobile devices? it will never happen 😛 This is not possible with automated content management software. Too many things affect it.
IPS is not the worst optimized anyway. JS takes the longest time to load and personally, it overwhelms me the most, but you can't have everything.

Honestly can't get my head around this Pagespeed score obsession, test many of the top sites on the internet and you will find many on par or below a standard IPS forum in this point scoring contest.
Been reading your posts on here for a number of years and I think it's almost a personal challenge for you now rather than something that would benefit your site.
Use your eyes, they will tell you if your site is loading slowly or not, I'm over 10 years deep into my forum with Adsense on and I haven't had one member complain that my forum is slow on mobile, not one based in the UK on a UK server with members using from the US, Russia and Asia. Not one complaint.
I haven't been punished by Google in anyway, still number 1 for search terms related to my site all whilst using custom.css which keeps all my changes in tact on every single upgrade.
My site isn't unique, take MacRumors for example, Pagespeed 31 for mobile yet still the number one Apple related forum. Go figure.
I wish you luck in your hunt for that magical 100, however the changes IPS have made will benefit all customers going forward.

World has moved to light/dark themes in OS, application and also at web level. When does IPS plan to provide dark theme default with forums? I am pretty sure, for skilled developers like IPS, it's not much work and having default theme with nice toggle, will help everyone.
PS Yes, I am aware of custom themes but I feel something like this should be default.

The most frustrating thing for myself with the new search bar is yet again mobile users who account for a large percentage of traffic are still left with no such options.
What would be nice is when tapping the magnifying glass, a search bar drops into view with the same options to search within this forum and topic.
