AlexJ reacted to MNOfficial in Marketplace Closure
Disappointed by this move, however, I also understand the decision to go down this route.

Traffic spikes should never "corrupt" your database. Increases in load can slow the server down, connections flooding and exceeding your MySQL servers configured max allowed connections can cause the website to "crash" and display an error page when they can't connect to the database, running out of memory can cause your server to resort to swap space and slow your system down to a crawl or get to the point where Linux starts forcefully killing processes to free up memory, but none of these scenarios (excluding possibly the last if the MySQL process is forcefully terminated, which is a case where your server is not properly configured in regards to maximum allowed MySQL conenctions and etc.) should result in database tables becoming corrupted.
This is not normal behavior. There is something wrong with your systems configuration if this is a frequent problem.
But outside of that, yes, I recommend looking into Cloudflare to help block illegitimate traffic and reduce the load on your website. It's not a solution to whatever is causing your database to become corrupted, but it's a good idea.
However, your host putting the blame entirely on the software is just factually wrong. If they're trying to suggest it's normal for this to happen, they are absolutely incorrect.

One thing that jumps out is that your choice of music hasn't improved with the new version.

AlexJ got a reaction from David N. in Notifications - Can't they be marked one at a time?
I agree with Robert here. I always click on Notificaiton on our forum and all is marked as read. It works fine when you have 5 things to catch up but doesn't help really, when I am logging in after few days and i have 30 notifications to catch up on.

How app renewals / paid $$ will be tracked? I don't have track of what applications, i have purchased over the year. I really had liked the idea of install apps through ACP (marketplace). Easy, less worry and headache.
Can I please get the list of paid apps? So on next renewal, I can talk to app owner? Thanks.
I can't even download files today. Can you please tell me how can i download the files/apps which I paid for? I would like to save the local copy. - Thanks.

I definitely look forward to seeing how it performs. I was planning on just giving one of the paid services a try recently, but if you're able to provide this as part of your included spam defense systems that is a great value for license holders.

Beautiful tool, my forums are overrun with spam. Initially from Russia, now from Finland and Germany.
But when a admin in our community reports a user as a spammer, does IPS Spam receive a report to learn new data?
I would like to have a tool in Admin for mass management of users...

v5 is a significant step forward for UI, discovery, noise versus signal and brand matching. Change is hard but it is kind of inevitable.
If nothing changed, then we'd still be using this:
And while you could absolutely run a successful community on that product even now, the chances of attracting new members would be low given the expectations modern audiences have for UI and ease of use.

Why everyone speaking about exploits form 3rd party developers still? When someone did something like this? This is a definite exaggeration and I ask you to stop such claims.

So for normal users like me, can i still do 'application upgrade' check? OR That process is changing as well?
If i understand - rather then purchasing renewals from IPS, i will be purchasing through developer site? So 10 developers, 10 sits for renewals? I am fine with it, as long as I can use add-ons on IPS forum.
Current IPS functionality doesn't cover all my needs and for us, stand alone forum would be non usable without developers fixing the gap/bridge.

Yes, we have that functionality already built in and it can still be used assuming the developers have entered the correct URL and have the ability to check for updates.
That's correct, you'll go through to the developer's own site. It's likely that you have more than just one modification from a single developer, so it may be less.
Some of the developers are talking about forming a new site with a listing, so it may be somewhat centralised if they go ahead.

... like Facebook and other social platforms do.
On my Invision installation, let's presume I visit my board and I have 15 notifications. I scroll down to #15 and click on it and read that post. Then when I return to the Bell icon at the top of the page to open my notifications again, they are all marked read. Couldn't just #15 be marked read and the remaining unread notifications still be in bold type and very clear that they are notifications that have yet to be clicked on?

AlexJ got a reaction from IP-Gamers in [Suggestion] TikTok as a new login method
I learned from Twitter -> Never believe in this logins.. if user is not interested in spending 2 mins on creating account, then my observation is user is not going to come back often.
I also use Google Auth on other sites, where I have no intention to use often.
But to contradict my above thoughts, we have more Discord logins because it's just easier for use to sync their details with Brilliant Discord integration app as their is additional benefit besides just login.
