I would agree. IPS has some ways of showing this now, however it's very difficult to see it unless you already suspect it from a moderator perspective. Things like shared devices should have a better way of being surfaced in the various control panels, so that you can easily see a list of those devices at the device level that are used between multiple accounts, rather than from the user level.
This would greatly help in identifying problematic issues.

After upgrading to 4.5 Betas you will likely be getting the below system error, and users will be unable to register with Classifieds on. I am not sure how to fix it and I am afraid waiting for releasing the final forum version + time to develop updated Classifieds will take a lot of time...

I'm not suggesting it's a good or bad idea, but at least one use case would be for banned people trying to get back in with a new account.

Banning, blocking and moderating problematic users is all well and good, but if the user decides to open a new account and the site's admins can't detect it as a duplicate, all those tools are pretty useless.
I saw that through the years there have been a few plugins developed by the community, but I think that this should be a built-in integral functionality of the suite. Also the plugins are currently not available for purchase so I'm salty 😄
What do you guys think? Should we have a built-in tool to help us find and intercept trolls and toxic users? Especially given how fairly simple is should be to implement (makes a cookie and then checks for it).

Hello I have noticed that the classifieds App, when installed on 4.5B4 is causing some system errors on my site, preventing users to register. Would it be possible to have at least a beta of the application, so that we could use it on our sites which have Invision 4.5B4 installed?

Asking again outside of PMs this time for a feature that allows people to mark advertisements as 'completed' (or whatever) after they have expired.
There are many people who are having to renew advertisements simply to be able to close them properly and avoid getting messages about items that are no longer available.

As a bit of an aside, @Adriano Faria developed this plugin for me to handle sending PMs to members who reported messages to let them know action had been taken.
My specifications asked for it to use the PM system to send a reply, but as I've used this, I've discovered that a better approach would have been to use the notification system - send a notification once the report is submitted to say "we've received your report- thanks!" and then send a notification once action is taken to be like "your report has been actioned - thanks for helping keep the community friendly" or something like that. People don't need a PM persay, they just need some visual indicator that their report didn't go into the ether.  It might be worth seeing if Adriano would be willing to enhance this plugin to let you choose between using the PM system and using notifications. Doesn't get you all the way there of having a badge for showing a user is banned, but might be helpful regardless.

With respect, that's great for you and works for you. The system does not work for us.
There is no functionality within the reports system for moderators to acknowledge that a report has been dealt with or allows a message to be sent to the person reporting.
When a user has been given a timeout during a heated discussion, users continue to reply and don't realise the person has been banned for a week - which causes users to think that the moderators are not taking any action upon reports - when they are.
Now, yes, you could say that moderators could PM the user who gave the report with a response - but IPB allows the PM system to be turned off and our community don't want the PM system enabled.
Because many people receive a timeout from the community for minor infractions, moving users to a "banned group" just is not feasible as it would require us to keep a track of the time that people have been banned for and move people back etc.
Again, we could make a big song and dance with moderators going in to a thread and saying they've banned someone - but that then gives the banned person the notoriety they want and contirbutes to derailing a thread.
Given that IPS have introduced a "shield" to determine whether a user is a moderator or not, I don't see how that is much different to the use case I have provided.

I suppose we can agree to disagree? @Chippy365 has a use case for this and so may others, I'm sure. I know that this feature has gone away after converting from a competitor's product and that the membership on my community would like it back. At least with Xenforo, there's two modifications that are available for this behavior:
Show ban information on postbit: https://xenforo.com/community/resources/ozzmodz-show-banned.7701/ Show list of banned members: https://xenforo.com/community/resources/andrew-banned-users-list.7572/ With other platforms, the functionality is built in (vBulletin).
I love the workaround for moving usergroups, yet that's not practical when there's a need for cool off periods through the warning system, and where moderators may be limited to not have the ability to adjust usergroups. I don't believe there's a permission to only allow a moderator to move into a banned usergroup and no others. I suppose if there were a way to do group promotions that used warning data as a trigger, then yes. And maybe this is as simple as a template change or similar. Not sure.
There are plenty of features that IPS has that my particular community doesn't have a need for and that I have turned off or don't use, and there will always be edge cases that are impractical for all but a few. As we talk about features and ideas that fellow administrators share, I find it interesting to hear more from those that have a perceived need to determine if it's something that would benefit the greater community of IPS license holders over those that wouldn't take advantage of a newly introduced option.

I agree that this is ideal in some communities, yet there are others where it is not. I would propose that any change be configurable, yet there is a clear need in some communities to be more transparent about who and what is restricted.

I have a Banned group in my forum that came over from my old MyBB conversion...all the members are tagged with the IPB Banned tag but they are also in a group with a custom group icon.  But yeah, as mentioned above...I would have to manually move newly banned members into the group which is not an option for me either.  Now I have to decide to delete the banned members and banned group or try to move the banned members into the member group and see if they continue to keep banned status?
    Following for more ideas...

I'm not familiar with Elastic Email.
If you send a bulk mail to everyone on your community, all users with the "Send me updates from the admin" enabled in their notification preferences will be emailed. It's possible your email provider may further limit those emails (i.e. by dropping/ignoring emails to specific addresses) but that's not something we could answer from here.

Thousands of emails are sent without control, the site email address is recorded in spam databases and your answer is "sorry, fix in 4.5"? You 've already tired us a little bit with blue message box about the new version, why don't you warn users with a red message box about this security hole?

No, it's not like a post!! A post gets distributed to all users who are subscribed to that category, who can unsubscribe from such messages as they like.
The "share by email" feature on the other hand allows submission of random content to random email addresses.
I did send two very nice messages to support. If the best they can come up with is suggesting to disable the feature, I don't see how asking nicely for a third time is getting me anywhere.
(And just a hint: disabling the feature was nothing I couldn't think of myself before getting in touch with support.)
A feature that allows spamming random email addresses without giving them the option to unsubscribe violates CAN-SPAM, GDPR and probably evey other anti spam regulation in any other legislation too. And this is a feature currently provided by InvisionCommunity.

optrexnz reacted to Jan Krohn in Fix "share by email" feature
I don't really care whether it was done by a guest, or a forum member, or a hacked forum member. The system should neither allow replacing the share message with a random message, nor tolerate sending of hundreds of identical messages per minute. This is very simple common sense.

    Hi,
This morning I woke up to find that tens of thousands of spam emails were sent through the "share by email" feature.
The support's brilliant suggestion was to disabling that feature.
So instead of taking the responsibility to fix or remove a easily abusible feature, it's the customer's responsibility to disable it.
    Bravo!
If the content that is to be shared can be removed and replaced by a spam message, then the feature is clearly broken. If this happens tens of thousands of times, and the system doesn't catch that, then the system is broken too.

    OK found the issue.
Checking the email headers indicates a user ASWEEW and an email address allapetrovapetrovaalla@gmail.com
This is a registered forum user. As soon as I banned his account, the emails stopped. So how is he able to do this without compromising the server and everything else?
I did some searching and found this relating to the social sharing email at the bottom of each thread.

OK, we use stripe. He gets the email to say someone has purchased something, but it doesn't tell him who. He just gets an email to say, a customer has bought xxx and you've  earned $xxx.
So how does he know who has purchased what?
Even if they use discuss with member feature, he could have 3 people say I'll send you the money, 2 pay up and he'd not know which two.
But without the contact member, if someone uses buy now on its own, he'd have no idea.

Also he'd need to see delivery details.

The IPS email notification would work for an admin because the back end tells me who's completed the transaction and I get to see the invoice details. The IPS email works here in marketplace because you're not selling physical items. Classifieds needs the extra info due to the physical aspects of the items being sold.
So how can we improve the information to the seller?

This is a default email sent by Commerce itself when the payment is OK. It actually has nothing to do with Classifieds. We receive this email here on IPS everytime someone buys a resource on marketplace.
