Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications Matt November 11, 2024Nov 11
Posted June 24, 20186 yr Is anybody using their community as a place for people to meet up and/or online dating? Is there already something similar on the marketplace? This could not just be for online dating but for meeting people physically for many different reasons. Something that would allow users to share profile information with other members they choose to share with that individual or group. A place where a user can state that they are looking for a member who is interested in "X" and that would show other members who are looking for the same thing in a person. I am "X" looking for "Y": Female looking for Male or whatever parameters the admin wants to set for users to use. I could go on with a whole list of features but if this is already done/possible, then there is no point. If nothing exists I would be happy to create a list of all the desired features that would exist in such an application.

FOSTA, aka "Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act". I had same idea but just not found time to work on it as believe it would work if done correctly and would not same Craigslist but like dating site but with better checks.
June 24, 20186 yr There's currently no "dating" app or extension for IPS. The closest and most relevant apps might be the Member Lists by @Fosters. You can also add custom member fields.
June 26, 20186 yr I was considering making a dating site myself and an app for it. It's really pretty ridiculous that nobody can take responsibility for their own actions. I guess in a few years about any website would be too risky to run because they'll find a reason to hold the webmaster responsible for the person browsing the site while walking and falling down on a sidewalk and getting injured.
June 26, 20186 yr I would support such a development project, too. one special requirement: There should be a geo position detection plus a distance function (find members near to your location)
June 26, 20186 yr I believe @Apfelstrudel made a really cool customization to Member Map. You can search for his posts
June 26, 20186 yr boris has a GREAT member location app that can do radius searches and automatically shows members NEAR you. Very useful as a dating component Edited June 26, 20186 yr by SJ77

Oh well sounds par for the course We have adapted this application which uses geo location and you can setup specialisations which people can search for. Once you edit the language file and change the name of the url to something more apt, it works to quite a good degree but is not perfect. https://invisioncommunity.com/files/file/7756-sd-company-directory/
