This weekend we upgraded to 3.1.2 (which looks great, by the way). As part of the upgrade I generated a new sphinx.conf and installed it, then re-ran the indexer: all seemed well at that point. However, over the course of the day, our active content page gets messed up: you can see it here -- http://forums.egullet.org/index.php?app=core&module=search&do=active The first page looks OK: all the posts are in order, at any rate. But if you note the timestamp of the last post on that page, and flip over to page two, you start to see a problem: some of the posts on page two should have been on page one. And some are actually duplicates of posts that ARE shown on pag…

How to know if cache works?

We've implemented Xcache but it still appears as if all images, scripts etc load for every single page. How do I troubleshoot caching? It seems to me that there is no effect of the cache at all. When I request anything on our forums it takes 2-3 seconds, then it starts to appear. Is this normal behaviour?

I've just installed memcache and enabled it as per the instructions on here. I'm getting a header output problem though: Warning: memcache_connect() [function.memcache-connect]: Can't connect to localhost:11211, Connection refused (111) in /home/talkford/public_html/ips_kernel/classCacheMemcache.php on line 93 Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/talkford/public_html/ips_kernel/classCacheMemcache.php:93) in /home/talkford/public_html/admin/sources/classes/output/formats/html/htmlOutput.php on line 109 Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/talkford/publi…

Hello ! :) My server is a 64 bit Bi Xeon Quad 8x 2.33+ with 16GB RAM and two 1TB HDD (RAID), with : Apache 2.0.63 PHP 5.2.9 MySQL 5.0.89 EAccelerator Sphinx as the search engine. At the moment, I'm having between 900 and 1000 users online and most of the time everything is ok and the server load is about 2/2.5. But at moments, I'm having problems with MySQL using 100 to 150 % of the CPU and the server load going up to 10. I disabled the search engine but this didn't fix the problem at all... I wonder if this is not caused by the "View new content" tool which doesn't use the Sphinx search engine ? I have MySQLTuner installed. I ran it and go…

Hello My forum is very slow and i did a check for d0s and locking tables on the sql but nothing all are normal also not many questions on the db and i think maybe i didn't configure correctly the Apache as i get also connection timeout :( It seems that is trying to compress everything and then display them and that delay a lot... :( As after a few seconds of a blank page and loading all are coming ready. I use from acp the gzip option. Any ideas? Thank you

I've an issue which started appearing about a week ago, and doesn't appear to be abating (high server loads). I've gone into WHM (unix server) and took a look at my "daily process log", which threw up some surprises: Two topics are causing high CPU usage. Any ideas why? Are they being linked to? If so, how do I find out?

I notice within the "Settings: CPU Saving & Optimization" there is an option for setting the post cache and signature caches. What is the optimum length of time for this? What are the pros and cons of having no cache, to say a 14 day cache, in regards of server load, cpu usage etc Thanks :)

At present we are using xcache. But forums become little slow after few days and I have to restart apache. Does anyone has any experience with memcache or eAccelerator? How was your experience if you ever changed from xcache to something else. Your suggestion/experience will help. Thanks!

Is this possible? I installed eaccelerator on my server and enabled it through IPB config and IPB seemed faster. However it doesn't work properly with Joomla so I went ahead and installed APC for it but it seems to be caching IPB as well and creating a mess. Any way to keep APC for joomla and eaccelerator for IPB? I read here that APC is no good for IPB otherwise I would keep that for both.. P.S. IPS should devote some staff into creating guides and tweaks for IPB, I know you are doing your best, I am just saying this should become number one priority, speed is a very important factor, even for SEO which you lately try to improve for IPB..

Hello, What are the right procedures to do, to optimise IPB by adding Memcached and eAccelerator under its config. I would like also to know what to do add exactly in the IPB config to integrate Memcached and eAccelerator! I'm using the latest IPB of course. Regards

OK Guys. I am having the occasional problem with my hosting and I am comtemplating a switch to another dedicated box (although I only just got on this one :( ) .. So, the questions are simple really. Which is the fastest to use linux with mysql or windows server with mssql? If the answer is mssql or not much difference, then what would I have to do in order to move my forum to a dedicated windows server rather than my dedicated linux box?

I've seen a huge extra load on my server after upgrading from v2.36 to v.3.1. It's gone from running at around a load of 1, to running at a load of 5 or greater (without anything else having changed). Is that normal? Or is there something else I should be looking at as the sudden cause of this?

I've contacted IPS for that and they told me that the database structure is what the developers consider optimal and no other changes are recommended. However people here suggested adding indexes to speed up some queries. My slow-log is around 10MB so I uploaded it on my server. www.wehellas.gr/log-slow-queries.log It's a joomla + IPB database (bridged), any suggestions on what to change at least for the IPB part? Thanks

I moved to IPB3 because I wanted to expand past forums into other things - IP Content being a big part of that - and I liked the idea of chat and downloads and gallery. I invested a considerable sum of time, money, and energy in first investigating the software, then trying it, then moving everything over. Technically it has been very successful - unfortunately too many of my members are not getting on with it and activity on the forums has really slowed. Long-term members have stopped coming as regularly and everyone I've polled about their lack of recent activity has said the same thing; it's slow, clunky, and laborious to use - it's not a pleasure any more so I'v…

Hello ! Everything was working well so far, but this morning when I went to see my board I noticed it was no longer working : it was displaying a database driver error message. I also realized I no longer had access to the server through SSH or FTP (it said the password was wrong). When I typed my server's IP in my browser, I got this message : So I rebooted the server and when the server was back, I could access SSH, FTP, and WHM again. Then I created a support ticket to ask IPS technicians to see why I had a database driver error message. They said some of the database tables were damaged. So, I repaired them using PhpMyAdmin (although I was…

I'm just curious where the breaking point is. My ibftopics table is currently 3.3 gigs in size, is it time for me to switch at least that table to InnoDB? What other tables should I switch if I should switch? Thanks!

Someone have the procedure handy? IPB 3.x is just getting slammed and I need to try to get these tables to stop locking up. Our post table is 2244mb in size and our topic table is 22mb in size. Close to 4 million posts. Would like to do it the fastest way possible because our forum can't be down for any significant amount of time.

Looking to possibly add a cache on the server for our forums - 1.7 million posts if that makes a difference. Before I start on that road, I need to know which is the best to opt for with IPB 3.1.X Thanks.
