    I love this suggestion. I have found many instances when featuring a member's topic, I will add some additional information to their post, which looks like the OP wrote it. I want to clarify to people that there are now two authors, at least a contributing author, so no one's words are minced.

    Casually I want to open a suggest about giving specific member to edit first post of topic without administrator permission.
    My case is using forums to handle the teamwork discussion, sometime the moderator just need to create topic title and the first post content incompleted, because need other member editing the first post to complete the content, then changing it while the discussion go forward.

    I’ve complained before that wiki editing shouldn’t have an original author, or owner, at all. While the authors/editors should be in the editing history the listing itself should never truly have a single author.

    It should be possible, especially in pages, to set multiple owners. You see this behavior on major websites such as Microsoft where the people that have contributed/have ownership of the listing are listed as “contributors”. I would like to empower my users to allow secondary editors to some of the contributions so those people also have the ability to edit their content. Sort of like adding a moderator to a forum, do it at the listing level in pages.

    I'm sorry, would you please repeat?

    I thought you were asking for the ability to introduce end-to-end encryption on content on publicly viewable content, so that those without the password see encrypted gobbly gook, yet with the password, a person can see the deciphered text.
    What is the use case for this? What problem are you trying to solve?
    If it's to limit who can see something, why not control that with permissions at the container level?
    If it's to encrypt things in transit, why not use SSL and database encryption?

    You do not need to move the file to require http authentication. Simply create a Files rule within your IPS directory that the file requires authentication.
    Assuming Apache and that you're not a CIC customer, something like the following should work:
    <Directory /var/www/html> <Files sitemap.php> AuthType basic AuthName "Protected Super Secret SiteMap" AuthUserFile /path/to/.htpasswd Require valid-user </Files> <!-- Include everything else you had in here --> </Directory>

    I'm not sure if it is the app we use or part of ACP but we do not show the specific group were we put banned members. So when members browse the members tab they only show active member groups.

    Hey,
    we have published the first article of a series about upcoming 4.6 changes.
    We took the opportunity for some spring cleaning, so we have removed most of the deprecated methods!
    They were all marked as deprecated for a while, so you should already be aware of these methods, but here’s a full list of the methods and the new approaches to make your life easier, so if you haven’t already, now it’s the best time to review your code and make sure that none of these methods is used.
    Most of the changes can already be implemented while the 4.5.x lifecycle.

    MEVi reacted to SecondSight in Validating and deleting members : becoming very difficult...
    Hello !
    Today, I wanted to delete  very old members belonging to a specific group and who had no content at all.
    So I made a search and it returned 6 pages :

    Then, I saw that there was no checkbox to deleted all members in one click...
    So I told myself I had to delete each member at a time... I tried deleting one member and I got this :

    What I think about this option :

    Anyway, I went ahead and, after deleting the member, I saw that I was back to... the members' page. Moreover, I had to do the whole process again...

    So is there another and fast way to remove these members ?
    Same question for validating members :
    Managing members on IP Board is becoming really difficult... unless I'm not doing it the right way ?
    Thank you.

    How about integrate Telegram X with IPS?
    Consider the instant messenger use is essential for users, we can use this platform to populate our IPS website, are two systems or platforms that can be combined for better experience in our communities websites services and supports.

    Regarding hosting providers, I have been using Linode for a couple of projects, and I'm happy with their service.
    You also have Amazon Lightsail and Vultr with similar prices.

    If you are going to use a VPS and manage it yourself, you can easily configure Lets Encrypt from command line.  This should take less work than buying a certificate.

    I currently rely on an rsync cron run daily. The scripts are easy enough to make to ensure you get everything you need backed up. Configuration, databases, folders with dynamic content (user uploads). I have had to use the backups twice in 10 years, sadly. Though one of them was an on demand backup, manually trigger the backup task, so I could migrate more easily to another server. Just make absolutely sure that you’ve got a secure connection between servers.

    CenOS 8 is indeed at the end of its life, so it will be use Ubuntu. When choosing a VPS some operators offer to take KernelCare, Is this relevant ?

    @Claudia999,
    Hosteurope does indeed offer interesting rates. But what if there is a problem with the server, does the technical support charge additional fees?
    @The Heff,
    Ioso does indeed offer interesting rates (+DNSSEC). But what if there is a problem with the server, does the technical support charge additional fees?
    @Aiwa,
    I agree with you it is necessary to take a second operator on the condition that it does not subtract by depending on our first host.
    @Tripp★,
    OVH I will drop it, I have a contact who lost his forum, because the archives were also stored in the same datacenter, a nonsense.

    Right now I'm using Vultr High Frequency VPS's for my site and they work very well. They offer additional IP addresses too and have great support and prices decently. Way more reliable and secure than Digital Ocean.

    I don’t trust hosting provider backups. A second VPS, with another provider, in another data center with sufficient storage for data and configuration backups. That VPS can be less CPU and RAM intensive, mine is 1 core with 1gb RAM, but may require larger amounts of disk space depending upon your needs.
    I run a couple of small forums, a handful of Wordpress sites, and the entire Atlassian suite on a single VPS, 8 cores, 32gb of RAM. Generally using about 12gb with another 4-6gb cache. I’m also using webmin.
    You should also consider if you’re going to be using the server for other services, e.g. email or others.

    In piwik and co it is complex to make the distinction between a member and a non member. Allowing google to track members in non-public sections is problematic because I then have robots that generate errors "HTTP Errors 40x" and make it difficult to read the logs, to identify possible intrusion attempts.
    The CP-Admin should be able to be hidden from the statistics or have another tracking code to guarantee the confidentiality of interactions, as well as for some sections of the forum that use a password there should be an option to say not to include it in the statistics or even have a menu to choose Piwik or Google...
    I would like to have more flexibility to say that the forum is with piwik while pages are Google, or choose to base me on members if he connects then he will no longer be followed by Google. But administrators and moderators should have a feature to be able to be excluded from this tracking because it distorts the statistics if they are very active.
