If the difference between emojis is too subtle, yes it's not worth adding more.
Nine reaction emojis on my board. I have found half of them on Google. The other half, I made them myself.

    From left to right :
    - ARGHHH!!!
    - Meh.
    - ...
    - Malaise. (Cringe.)
    - Navré... (Sorry...)
    - QU-QUOI?! (WH-WHAT?!)
    - HAHAHA!
    - J'ADORE! (I LOVE!)
    - J'aime! (I like!)

The angry one is so agressive it has barely been used serioulsy, mostly for irony. The ''Meh'' () isn't really used either, it makes the giver looks grumpy and it was kinda the point.
All the other ones are used regularly. My community is known for its harshness and those emojis fit the overall ambiance.
I've created many other original emojis too, come take a look : depotoir.ca

The number of reactions doesn't always do that. I have about 13 reactions and they are basically intended for people to voice their opinions. I've had others but I've kept the ones that work.
I made the default reaction something that isn't really a reaction so that people actually took advantage of the other reactions. This is the "I read this" reaction that the point is that its not positive, negative or even really feedback which is how I use my reactions. However, none of my reactions provide negative reputation and the only "negative" one provides no reputation at all.

    Going left to right:
Like Agree Disagree Yeah Love Thanks You're welcome Great Idea Cheers LOL Preach it Cringe I read this On mobile this sort of sucks in some areas more than others but I've made it work. That said I'd say that some are lesser used (like Great idea and Disagree) but I wouldn't remove them because they all have their place within my community to be helpful. (Great idea is really useful in my Brainstorming and Ideas section for example and Disagree is useful for my conversations sections).
Would I like a little more modular use of it it? Maybe. I sometimes think it would be good to remove disagree from sections that it doesn't quite fit like Brainstorming and ideas or looking for help sections. Agree should probably really only in the same sections as Disagree because "great idea" and "thanks" would probably be better served in the Brainstorming section. The problem for that for me is that Great idea can be used in other sections and still be useful (status messages and conversation threads).

Reviewing my list, if I felt like there was no other way (which obviously there is) I could maybe remove 6-7 reactions but I wouldn't feel good about it. Having a more modular or a better display would, I think, could be beneficial. @Jordan Invision

As it stands now, when you go to react to a post, and you hover over the heart in the lower right to get all the reactions to pop out, they all pop out in a straight line, regardless of how many of them there are. Which sucks. It means if you want to upload a full emoji set for reactions you're limited in the number you can upload by the fact that the reaction select panel doesn't wrap. So really, at most you can get like 10 before it starts looking awful.

With some custom css I was able to get the behavior I wanted (still trying to get it to work on mobile view) but this type of wrapping really should be the default.

Something has to give with these notifications. Members who want to receive reply notifications are getting literally hundreds of emails a day because a post they make gets a lot of reactions.
Ultimately that's making them decide to switch off their email notifications entirely....

Rather than classifying things into so many forums, perhaps you could reduce the overhead of so many by using tags/thread prefixes instead.
What might fit under forum A234235919 might just get tagged A234235919 instead.

    Hello @giovanny castro
I can see you are upset. No one particularly likes or wishes to experience downtime and general administrative issues. It can be a very frustrating time, especially if you do not know the cause of the problems you are facing or have been provided a possible cause yet have no clue where to begin addressing them. Please be believe when I say 'we have all been there.' After all, everyone starts someplace, somewhere. What can even be more frustrating is when you identify the cause and the solution, and you realize the time it may take to implement a working solution.

I guess my point is, I and I am sure many other people here do sympathize. We have all experienced the rewards of owning and managing our site(s), just as we have experienced how frustrating it can be. But during those more troubling times, it is essential not to lose focus and not direct your frustration toward anyone individual(s). There are people here, both personally and professionally, who wish to help you. Taking out your frustration will not help in that regard.

You said in your reply that the issue is related to SSL. Did you understand what was said and how it was caused? Do you know how to resolve it? If the answer is "no" to either of these questions, perhaps if you share with the community the explained cause, someone can better try to explain things.

Yes, it’s my assessment that this layout is well-thought-out. (The one I commented, which was from Pages)
I work as professional web designer for more than 20 years and I customize these Pages templates all the time—inspecting every little detail, checking the flow of content in many situations and at every CSS breakpoint.
Of course if you can’t have an open discussion and need to laugh at people just because they say something you don’t agree with, this discussion ends right here. If all you guys can do is judge a web layout in one desktop view, you know very little of web design and have a lot to learn, but with reactions like the one I quoted you are apparently not willing to. I am out.

Now do that screenshot again on a live site with …
complete data like the missing category description pagination, which appears in that empty space when there are more records all user buttons active all moderator options active and a smaller screen right before the phone-view kicks in You will see that the space is there for a reason. It’s there for stuff to “grow into” when the screen isn’t as large as yours.
And on much smaller screens things get either hidden or moved below the more important content. It’s actually well-though-out. If the stuff was moved the way you asked for, it would all fall apart when the missing options mentioned above would actually appear and the screen size would get smaller.

I totally agree. The default skin in 4.5 is absolutely terrible. Huge elements, padding, empty space, thin and faded text, low contrast, and more. It's no surprise why more and more people are choosing to use XenForo, Discord, etc., over IPB. I don't know who made the new skin, but it feels like a beginner freelancer from Dribble made it.
But why did they need to move the follow button one line down? If the follow button was positioned on the same line as the title, as before, there would be no useless empty space.
    One more example:

It takes up a lot of space, but none of it is needed there.
You just entered a topic and want to reply right away? Not! You just entered a topic and want to create a new topic right away? Of course not!  Who cares who is the author of the topic and when it was created? Nobody! For example, I have active topics on my forum that are already 12 years old. Why should I constantly show who is the author of these topics if they have not visited the forum for 10 years and everyone has already forgotten about them?? Nobody cares who is the author of the topic. This information is completely meaningless and useless. One more example:

Am I exactly in a place for people to communicate? Because on my screen I see only a white space and a couple of lines of text. 🤦🏻‍♂️

xdrox reacted to zyx in (Idea) Reactions - more customisation
Since the above application hasn't been updated since 2019, I wonder if IPS would consider adding some of these features into the core software? I imagine reactions are used by almost every community, so would be great to see their functionality expanded a little more. 🙂

Thanks. Certainly looks like it could be a good temporary solution, and I appreciate the developer's work on it.
Having said that, the comments suggest it's quite buggy and lacking a very key feature (the 'premium reactions' concept the first reviewer refers to), and the execution of it (e.g. giving users an error message rather than just not showing them the reaction) certainly isn't quite how I'd hoped it would be.
I realise I'm being very picky here (and perhaps a little wary about having to rely on yet another add-on that has mixed feedback and infrequent updates), but I still maintain that improved reaction control would be brilliant as a core feature in IPS. I think a lot of people would use it.

I'd love to see the reactions featured expanded to include:
Reactions based on permissions - only certain users can use certain reactions Different reputation point values for different reactions (not just +1 or -1, but +2 for example) Reaction reports  - flag how much user X has reacted to user Y or what percent of user X's reactions are from user Y (to prevent reaction 'spam'/abuse)  Just a few ideas that would help add an extra dimension to reactions in our community, which are a hugely popular feature. I realise for some sites these would be overkill, but I'm sure for others they could be a very welcome addition, especially as I imagine the first 2 wouldn't be too complex to add.
    Thanks a lot.

We're getting complaints from users that although they want notifications for things like replies and mentions, they don't want or need them for reactions to posts. It would be useful to be able to give them that option.

+1 for all of those! I believe IPS have said video/media in the gallery is on their radar, but any of the suggestions above would be really great to see!
For me, the ideal features would be:
Automatic thumbnail generation for videos Video compression Custom video player  (right now some videos don't play for certain users, depending on their browser)  Possible integration with amazon mediaconvert (which I believe would do a lot of the above) - I believe this would also allow for multiple versions of a file to be served depending on the user, for example a lower resolution version on mobile devices / weak internet connections. Those kind of features could save a small fortune on bandwidth costs and improve performance too, as right now I believe the full raw video file is downloaded as soon as anyone loads the video.  Wording changed to reflect media/videos, not just images.
