I didn't realize how much space was being utilized until I switched to 4.5. This is kind of a lot I agree 😂
I would love to somehow simplify this so it's about 75% shorter in length. For instance, it says the author and time stamp twice.

I am onboard with IPS for long, and here is my positive feedback on the current state of the nation:

    - I love the strategy of moving from Pure forum to communities, with a tightly integrantes set of apps. This was a crucial move that allowed IPS to escape from the fierce competitivo on a shrinking market. As everybody knows, fóruns are disappearing, yet people are still getting together. This is why i prefer IPS package Over XF ir VB because there is a whole set of tightly packed tools to get my people collaborating.
    - I love the new theme. "Oh it's too white" "oh só much white space"... For me it is definitely a great step forward. Is ir perfect? No, but it was definitely a major step forward!
    - Integrations! We are not alone in the cyberspace, and there are many great apps and services out there. Integration with Zapier will be a major leap um interoperability and would allow IPS users to extract more value of their communities. I am looking forward to see IPS on Zapier, it os just taking too long.
    - Support. Has been great. Thanks!

There is also less positive aspects, most related to pricing, business and evolution of the compromise with customers through time,  but now it is not the time to talk about that.

Anybody know if 4.5 marketplace changes were accompanied with changes to the software licence and or, terms and conditions? I don't recall seeing anything when I downloaded 4.5 for standalone install. Maybe I missed it?

Totally agree. You buy an APP, you retain the right to use it, regardless of having an active IPS licence.

Having the marketplace inside of the application in the ACP is a good idea, but - access to the marketplace is governed by having a current license renewal in place.  This means that if a license has expired and the user does not wish to renew at this point in time (for whatever reasons), if their site has a catastrophic failure and they need to reinstall from scratch, the applications they have purchase which need to be reinstalled, what happens to them?  Will they be available in the ACP or will they need to renew their license before they can access what they have paid for?
I believe that the option to install from the ACP should be retained as it's helpful, but the option to download what you have paid for should also be made available.  After all, it is we the users who have paid for this app or plugin.  Thoughts?

I think you should view the out of box experience as a starting point for your own personal preferences. We’ve not even launched yet and already have 12 nested scss includes, covering everything from button placement to injecting section  descriptions (selector:after etc ) when for example, core doesn’t offer the facility to add them in ACP

We’ve also replaced the native menu system with our own custom implementation resembling the sliding menu in FB groups.
We are now working on cleaning up the native mobile experience.

With a little perseverance you can create a very tight, functional and dare I say it, class leading experience.

Sorry for the necrobump on this topic, but I'd really love to see the option for custom fields in threads, too. Any chance of seeing this in 4.5? 🙂

We've recently implemented a toggle button directly into the editor. It helps us keep above the line content as short as possible. It can be used anywhere where text is added via the rich text editor. We could keep the text even shorter in the example below - it's a case of deciding how much is shown by default. All it takes is a custom button in  ACP > Toolbars and a touch of CSS. The same can be used in posts too I guess, although we've never tried it.
This is all still in development and we've now got to decide where to put all the buttons. Probably going to dock them in a custom toolbar control and position it with CSS. I think we will end up with everything in the page header, bar the title, in a collapsible section.

If you want native video recording and hosting then IPS will also need to implement something like FFmpeg to handle transcoding. It's not so much of an issue for content that is captured directly into the community because the platform can encode it on the fly, but any uploaded videos will need a transcoding pass to make them suitable for cross platform usage on the web. Incidentally, XF supports FFmpeg and assuming you've installed FFmpeg on your XF server, issues a notice that the video is currently being prepared for use once the video is uploaded. I think it probably does the same for audio. It's a nice solution and works well, or at least it did when I last used it a couple of years ago.
Obviously going the YT or Vimeo route cuts out the transcoding and bit rate tuning requirement, but as @Malwarebytes points out, you are left with little to zero control over who sees what, unless you install a security trimmed, proxy streaming service that obfuscates the true location of the video being sent to the viewer.
Despite the obvious issues in implementing this, we'd love to see native video handling and transcoding capability in IPS, especially security trimmed playlists that are protected by native IPS permissioning. If IPS has no immediate plans to consider this, then I'd suggest approaching someone like @onlyME who built the Videobox app, which he might consider enhancing to include AV capture and transcoding. I know he's busy at the moment, but might be tempted with the right offer. Count me in for a sizeable $contribution should anybody want to run with this idea, or something of a similar nature which delivers equivalent functionality.

The problem is that every update breaks our customizations. I am tired of this never-ending cycle of chasing a moving target. The default skin is finally good enough I feel okay just replacing the header and footer with our own. So in spite of my criticism, things actually are moving in the right direction.
I don't think it is possible to ever get the skin perfect:
Google is forcing everyone to use "responsive design" which massively complicates everything. If we had a free-market economic system the government would shut down monopolistic practices like this, but I digress. IPB is a collection of applications with some shared functionality, and that modularity of features will always lead to some tricky design choices. So I think we can reasonably expect to see some awkward spacing in various parts of the design. However, I think some more effort should be put into improving the most common parts of the most commonly used functionality, and the forum topics list is probably one of the top three pages that get viewed most frequently in the software.

I believe these are group settings and you can add an icon for each group.  Go to ACP/Members/Groups and add your badge or icon:

You can also use ranks to add badges based on various criteria that you choose:
ACP/Members/Ranks and add your badges there.

    Hope that helps 🙂

It would be nice to show something along the lines of "a new version has been submitted for review" and "Developer action required" or "IPS review pending" as statuses to help end users have visibility into this process.
