No, it doesn’t need to be your home page. Just keep Forums application as your default application to keep it as homepage .

It can be handy as some like to discuss new features, best way to implement, etc., also we would know which resources should get more attention and start to work on them now to ensure it’s in compliance with all new marketplace rules, for example.
But I guess first Beta shouldn’t be so far according to this:
    Thank you.

    1. Create a staging/test instance with a copy of your current installation
    2. While you said that you're using everything, once you've upgraded your test system to 4.5, just review your list of installed apps and plugins and see if you can just remove all the stuff which won't be necessary with 4.5 or if it contains some data which should be imported to 4.5 to not lose any important data. I have quite a huge list of apps and plugins which will become deprecated once IPS 4.5 is here and I've already started looking and planing the post 4.5 alpha phase, to provide ASAP upgrade routines for club pages, referrals, while other apps like my default guest language, just aren't worth the additional work to see if I'll be able to import the setting..
Also subscribe to all the files and support topics if you haven't already, to keep updated about the upgrade notices from the 3rd party devs;)

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is => Staging System is a must have, if you don't want to have your board down for days; and that each of such bigger IPS upgrades is also a great opportunity for housekeeping to remove some unused ballast 🙂

Best method... wait until the devs release updates for 4.5.  Everyone is different.  Every developer is different.  Some devs will wait until 4.5 is released, some are working on that now.  It all depends.
Research each one of the plugins and look at the dev support threads and see what's up.  That's what I do.  Also, I'm sure there will be some stuff that will work just fine.

If you are using third party items you will need to wait for each one to be updated for 4.5 or confirmed the current version is working with 4.5.  Since 4.5 hasn't been released at this point, nobody is working on updates just yet, once developers get their hands on beta versions they can start developing and testing for any needed changes.
If you are not using any third party items, then once the final version is released, you can upgrade without issue!
If you have a very large site or items of concern, and are self hosted, you can always do a test install to test your upgrade process and third party items before doing your live community if needed.
The final golden rule, always do a backup of the database and file system before upgrades, things can sometimes go wrong, so it's always nice to have a quick restore as an option rather than freaking out if your community is troubled with an upgrade issue.

A few CSS issues if you can please help.

When you go to Delete a category, the box that comes up does not look very good.

Are you sure you want to delete? is a little too big, and should be lined up with the warning box.

The Delete button needs padding at button, and might look better if also left aligned with warning box.

One thing that was causing me so much issues, the text in this box that says "Create new category", I DID NOT KNOW this was clickable. I thought this was a header text, and the box below that says Title, is where you would put the "new category" name. This was confusing for me, and I'm sure my members of the forum will also think how I did. Is it possible you can provide some css so I can make the "create new category" text a little bigger and give it some color?

When viewing the My Bookmarks page on mobile, it really does not look very good.

If you add a Note to the bookmark when making the bookmark, you can not access the note on mobile. The "Remove Bookmark" button on mobile should be placed underneath the bookmark, maybe to the right of the Read More button.

I think there are just too many issues to deal with right now. Is it possible you could provide a refund please. I would really appreciate it.

    Thank you.

It would be great if the gift on the tab in the user profile was clickable and redirect to the shop, or at least showed a description of the gift.

I think it's better to make it optional. Despite the grayscale, the presence of many new items in the user profile can be misleading. Now it turns out that the user has a lot of items on the tab, and he does not understand where they came from.
For example, it would be good to have the "Show All / Show Only Received" option on the tab.
    And one more thing.
I think a good solution would be to split the profile of gifts into "The Gifts I Gave" and "The Gifts Someone Gave Me".
Imagine the situation: a user gave 100 gifts in a month. Of course, he needs information in a handy way about who and what he gave to.
Especially since the gifts in the profile do not have a description, but only a title. It can be difficult to remember who gave this or that gift to whom and why.

@SC36DC, it's not easy, because the functionality is very extensive. Before buying it is difficult to assess the possible pitfalls and match the desired one. The trial period could have helped, but it's a pity it's not possible and you have to face difficulties or inconsistencies after the purchase. There's nothing you can do about it. That's why we write here, hoping for help. :)

Sorry, fosters_bookmark_1.6.1.tar is the correct one

    I think it was 20 or 25$
Right now there's only a group permission to allow or disallow private bookmarks, but I t hink that your suggestion makes sense. I'll include this to the next version ( for IPS 4.5 )

This button is missing for my member usergroup:

But available to my administrator usergroup

Any idea why? Both groups can still remove bookmarks directly from the post. I can't find a per usergroup permission for the "remove bookmark" option.

    EDIT:
Sorry @Fosters, nevermind. This has been resolved. I found the permission. Instead of deleting this post I'll post what I missed in case anyone else has this issue.
I got confused because when I tried to edit the permissions for "Bookmarks" in the Applications section, I got a message that said: "You can control which groups have access to the application by changing the permissions on the modules within the application."  I didn't see that from here, there was an additional dropdown with the bookmark module inside where I could edit the permissions. I created a new usergroup since I initially installed the application, and I didn't realize I needed to grant access there as well as in the main usergroup section.

For everybody that doesn't want to wait until 'tomorrow', here's a little workaround, quick and dirty as usual 😉
Simply replace the language in your template bookmark -> global -> bookmark -> bookmarkLink with something like this...
<i class="fa fa-bookmark-o fa-2x" style="color:green" aria-hidden="true"></i> The color is optional, in this case it's for a green theme with larger buttons. Because of the button size, I've added fa-2x, just remove that for normal font size.

Can you possibly add the option to change the default bookmark to Private?
Also it would be nice if the admin area had some stats about most bookmarked topics and users using the app.

Any chance we can get some improvements to this? WIth how things currently are, it just feels like this was an idea that was done to MVP and just left, goals are beyond useless as if you're wanting deactivate a goal, or do something like a monthly goal there is absolutely no way to retain that donation goal. You either delete it, or reset it back to 0 manually. Can we get an option to either manually deactivate it, or be able to set a date for it to close which prevents contributions to it & hides it from the goal widget?

And why is it for pretty much every other feature of Commerce you can select which payment methods you want to allow, except for donations? I have a credit system that they're able to buy some items off the store, which works great as you can choose which methods are usable for both products & subscriptions. But unable to do that for donations (or gift cards)? So you're left with having to either disable methods entirely or spend time removing donations made using those methods. Can this be a setting somewhere?

Wow what an awesome response 👏
Thank you!! The second example is something that I could potentially see happening on my forum, but for now I am going to (like you suggested) keep things simple. I have also been one of those forum admins in the past that had a MESS of permissions in the back-end. Ick.
Thank you for taking the time to reply 🙏

I prefer to use secondary groups as informational (for me) or permissive. Basically I just like to give people "more" things with secondary groups (especially since you can't take things away) @breatheheavy
For example I have a secondary group called "new people" that members are in for 1 week from the time they join. This shows them specific "new people" widgets/blocks to help get them integrated into the site. For example it links to our welcome guide, our welcome forum, etc. After a week, the group is removed and the blocks disappear too. (I think I remove the group if they post a lot too but don't quote me I have complicated group promotion rules). I also have a secondary group that I use to see how many of my members are inactive.
Alternatively, I use a secondary group to give access to special forums on my site.
Lastly, I have Post before register enabled but there are some things I didn't want guests to be able to post to that I did want new registered members to be able to post to. So I have a secondary group for new members that provides those permissions as a secondary group (to post to these things) where the main group does not have those.
So, I agree with @Joel R Keep it simple when it comes to groups or if you don't at least verify your permissions otherwise people may be able to see things that they shouldn't be able to see.

Most people use it to give expanded permissions or features to members who may be members of multiple usergroups.
    Example 1: Targeted Permissions
For example, if you have members who monitor the Pages wiki or who write Pages articles, but they may be spread across multiple usergroups, then you can assign them special editing privileges in Pages as a secondary group permission while still retaining their primary group.  (For example, maybe they're a "Flame" or "Ember" but you only want to give trusted people access to writing articles in your community, not all Flames or Embers.)
    Example 2: Overlapping Permissions
You can also sell overlapping products in Commerce to decorate the user postbit, signature, or profile.  For example, one product might upgrade the name to a sparkling name.  One product might give a special badge on the profile.  One product might allow them private albums and blogs.  Because you want to allow users to pick-and-choose between these user upgrades, you want to only add the secondary membergroup for the feature that they purchased.

To be totally honest though, my personal 'best practice' suggestion is that you want to try to keep your groups as simple and as flat as possible.  Multiple membergroups leads to a complex hierarchy, which can realistically lead to permission issues.  I've seen (and been a member of) many boards where their permissions were totally messed up, because the owner never checked all of the overlapping restrictions.  You really want to audit your permissions, menus, visitor experience, etc. on an annual basis and make sure they're manageable.

Hey IPB fam, I could use some clarification please. 🙏
I set up rules for Group promotion.
I want the system to promote members to different groups based on the amount of Reputation they get (the +1 for "liking" someone's reply)
The more Reputation you have, the hotter you are 😏

    Spark    0-9 Reputation score
    Ember    10 Reputation score
    Flame    50 Reputation score
There are instances I want to manually move a member from Spark to Ember for instance.
If I tell the system to move them from Spark to Ember, it won't unless I manually increase that member's reputation to any number between 10 and 49. Is that how I should proceed, or am I missing something? Basically, if I want to manually move a member from Spark to Ember, I must increase their reputation score first so that it matches with the rules in place (even if they did not earn that reputation)?
I would also love to discuss what you guys do with Secondary groups. I am trying to think of a scenario where you would want a user to belong to a second group with different permissions. If anyone has insight on that I'd love to know more and cook up some more concepts for my forum.
    Thanks!
