I think it's great that the apps are available through the ACP, I don't agree with the requirement to have an active license.  For me, there have not been any updates in a very long time.  I was looking forward to upgrading to 4.5, now that is soured by the requirement to have an active license moving forward.  I have looked at other options.  Does IPS care?  It would seem not as they indicate I am the in the minority in not maintaining my license, even though there have not been updates in a very long time.
It is true I do not understand the business reason for you doing this, but as one of the (I suspect) many people running hobby sites that don't make money, this is really hard to take.  @Lindy, you mentioned XF, as you are aware, their upgrade fees are significantly less (85 a year if you buy everything - not every 6 months, but a full year), and you do not need an active license to purchase add-ons.  The license fees here are nearly triple that if you buy most products.
I understand IPS won't be bothered by losing a small customer like me, 3 licenses, and that makes me sad.  The culture felt more welcoming when I joined 13 years ago.

Understand this, and I was thinking yesterday how hard it would be now for some to run a nulled community with addons, however I’m sure they will find a way. So I hope they get dealt with. 😈

We’ve seen a few replies from staff saying this was a recent change, especially over the years regarding the marketplace. However, was it officially announced? Unless I missed something (which does happen), can you show us where it was announced? And if it hasn’t, could you please think about changing that making it very clear somewhere on the site. Maybe within the marketplace with a message?

Is there not a way that good standing customers could be in a tier system? This would allow us to download from the market place still. As someone pointed out earlier, there have been times that no updates have been done for 4/6 months, and if a licence runs out just before or during, why would I renew? Obviously I would wait until an update is released to renew.
I don’t want to have to go outside of the marketplace if I can help it. So the way forward is to play it smart and only renew when apps/plugs need renewing when software updates are released and time it all together, instead of waiting for one or the other.

Thanks, that what I was trying to find...

I was going to make a separate topic, but since we're all talking about it here. This isn't a good move if it's true? I thought it was a glitch on my side and I left it as was renewing anyway.

Not to be 'that person' but if you force us to have an active licence in order to keep 3rd party apps/plugins up to date OR purchase then, I won't be using the marketplace and will source the files outside like I do already with a couple that I own. This has its own inherent problems, but I only buy from long standing developers.

Yup, while I've done my best, I can't always afford the 6 months renewal on top of everything else. Sometimes, I leave my licence expired for a few months. I did this recently, until I had enough and wanted to help test 4.5 beta. But time will once again be upon me to renew and I know I'll have to wait awhile before I can.

Sometimes I can't see an obvious solution right in front of me.  I will use this option also.  Xenforo is the alternative, and while I like their software, the change would be huge for me.

It's not just to keep them up to date, it's also to purchase them. Once they remove this requirement I'll be renewing my license, but until then I'm being forced to stick with XenForo.

I know we're going off topic a little but can someone please confirm if we need an active licence in order to keep our 3rd party plugins and apps up to date?

As it was previously said by Lindy is that you only need to own a licence:
Obviously this next quote is a few years older now:

If this has or does change, no one is going to buy from the marketplace anymore, and they will go straight to the developer. Due to the recent change and having the MP within ACP, how will it now work?

@Lindy Sorry to tag you, but would please confirm this?

Sorry, I meant Plugins or Applications and you can click the marketplace link.

Best to do what Stuart said.

So, we create maybe 5 or more, all licensed nulled and we only buy one license. And as you need support, downloads from the marketplace and updates, you switch your license from forum to forum...
If I change domain several times every 6 months, take a break and think about what you really want to accomplish.

I’ve never met anyone that needs to change a domain every 6 months let alone every couple of months... It really doesn’t make sense. Be sure on what you want to do and not give up on something because it’s not working.
Sorry, but for once I side with IPS, it’s a preventative measure to insure piracy concerns as explained on the page.

As recommended, I'm creating this topic to reinstate the option to download files manually from the Marketplace.
It's bad enough you don't allow the download of apps we purchased when our licence has expired. But, to completely change the way file downloads are handle is a little much.

Please don't get me wrong, I love the idea that we can now do it all with ACP, but you shouldn't disable/change the way that a lot of us download files for localhost setups to test our sites before going live.

Please, please, please allow the option to download files manually like we've done for so many years!

I really don't think people are 'getting it' or simply do not understand.

4.5 has NOT been released, it is in TESTING...  As usual testing practices are; pre-alpha. alpha, beta and rc's. You will know when 4.5 is OFFICIALLY released as IPS will shout about it everywhere. You're advised not to install any beta software release, unless you know what you're doing.

On 4.5.1, I believe you’ll be able to enable the captcha, versions before you’d have to use a plugin.

It would be nice to see a 'manage purchases' as an option, just like the client page. Can keep up to date with all the apps/plugins in one place.
