Cowboy Denny reacted to A Zayed in Feedback about the new search bar
I totally agree with this, other clients have the same concern as well...
I developed a little plugin to overcome this by allowing admins to select the default search area, not sure if IPS will approve it or not (Now awaiting MP approval).

Cowboy Denny got a reaction from kmk in [CJ] Downloads Plus (Support Topic)
Checking out your plugin and looks very promising. Wish you had the ability to leverage Downloads in posts (forum, blog, calendar, etc..) so if someone creating a post or reply has the ability to add a file to downloads or from downloads. Basically, I would rather have downloads manage users files then wherever the files go when I click on choose files... at the bottom of a post. It appears no one offers the ability to embed or attach directly to/from downloads or gallery (prefer downloads to be my file depot).

Definitely a bug. I'll try to take a look today later and will provide the PHP files to upload while you wait for the new version to be approved.

Cowboy Denny reacted to Marc Stridgen in Getting an error when converting Invision Community 4.7.0
Hold your thought there. You are doing this only because you are moving hosts? If so, you dont need to do a conversion in any way. You would simply move the site

Thanks guys... I changed from php 8.0 to php 7.4 and restarted the conversion process and it immediately has made much much more progress. I am going to assume its going to work based on what I see so far but if anymore errors I'll post them but either way I'll let you know if this is fixed or other issues

I would suggest creating a new language pack and switching to that pack. This will ensure you dont have anything at all customised

Cowboy Denny got a reaction from SeNioR- in SEO help please
When I was with Wordpress I didn't even have to try to get a great Web Search Presence since there are many SEO WP friendly plugins but of course the rest of it is slow and clunky and expensive.
With Invision Community (which I love and have several sites built on) I have almost zero web search presence. Now I'm not genius or expert web developer but it's a hobby, not a business (kinda) and I'm always learning.
I like to try and solve issues myself (yea I'm that guy that doesn't like to ask for help) but scouring the internet for anything to do with SEO and Invision Community I only find one article really and thats the Help Guide for SEO on Invision Community that doesn't help me at all.
Now I know Invision Community works very well and has SEO since the company's site pops up all over Google (which is AWESOME!) but in my attempt to figure this out myself I'm even more confused. Below I'm posting a picture or two to help explain my confusion since I'm not sure how else to explain it.
This is a working example using Invision Community Blog Post
This is real world use of my site which I would love to have at least the above results happening
Again, it could be something I'm not doing correctly or something is misconfigured which is why I'm posting this in the HELP section. Not complaining, just want to know how to get SEO to work correctly.
I have clicked on: ACP -> System ->Site Promotion -> Search Engine Optimization
Friendly URLs (all three are turned on and yes the .htaccess has been uploaded) Sitemap (Use recommended settings? enabled) Meta Tags: I've clicked Rebuild Sitemap Clicked Add Meta Tags but I'll be honest, not sure what to do so I followed the hint which is use Live Meta Tag Editor I clicked on Launch Live Meta Tag Editor and it just brings me to the homepage of my site but I have no idea what the expectation is... maybe this is my issue. Examples would be awesome if anyone has any. Crawl Management: Invision Community optimized
Currently running: Invision Community v4.6.12.1
Any help, direction to get some google presence without paying these companies a bunch of money for something that I feel should be simple would be MUCH appreciated.
Thank You in Advance

Cowboy Denny reacted to opentype in SEO help please
The IPS blog isn’t created with the blog app. That’s why there might be differences in the appearance.
But I wouldn’t worry about those. Search results are about relevance, not about some “seo magic” in the background. (No matter what SEO plugins promise.) If you want to optimize something, make sure the titles reflect what people might search for and make sure that people will link to your page and your content. Building that up might take years though.

Cowboy Denny reacted to Jim M in SEO help please
If you are unsure what meta tags are or what to do with them, I would not advise messing with them. The software is optimized with meta tags in mind that search engines and social media sites use and we're always evaluating and updating everything SEO-wise. Keeping the default meta tags will provide you the best results, unless you're explicitly trying to do something.
Like @opentype said, content is king. Make sure your content matches the searches that your users will be searching for.
Tags prefixed with "og:" are related to Open Graph. This is used by external sites to grab information about the page to embed. I.E. when you share a URL on Facebook, you get that embed with a title, image, etc... This is what controls that.
Changing these would not be advised unless you have something explicitly in mind.

Cowboy Denny reacted to Marc Stridgen in OutOfRangeException
There are times in which items can cause issues even when disabled. We do try to prevent that as much as possible, but with a very large number of possibilities, there will always be items which slip through the net

Please be advised I moved this to a ticket so that it can be further investigated. Thanks.

Convert a category to a club feature isn’t a Quizzes feature. You probably has Improved Clubs Enhanced installed. Try support there.

Thanks again Adriano, must of replied the same time you did. Looks like you spent some serious time on this app. Thank you! I have had multiple applications you have created and one thing in common they all have.. they just work.

I just replied:
You can have more than one quiz feature per Club.
-
Cowboy Denny got a reaction from Adriano Faria in Quizzes
I just went ahead and purchased it and was happy to discover you can add quizzes to clubs. It doesn't really mention that it does support that on the product page so for anyone who is curious, it does work on clubs.
Really impressed with the app so far. I have a lot to do before I can give a solid accurate review but initially this looks promising.

Cowboy Denny got a reaction from Brainy S. in Quizzes
I've been wanting to add the quiz system to my site for awhile now but since my site has so many different categories I would love to be able to keep the site clean by adding quizzes to certain clubs.
Example: I have a DJ club so I would like to have quizzes on how to hook up the equipment, what to do in certain situations, etc.. then on another club I have technology club that would focus on knowledge of the different products.
If I have only the one page of all quizzes, it might be unappealing and confusing. Also with the clubs I could do the paid clubs so the clubs I have quizzes its part of the bonus of paying to join the club.
Anyhow, was curious if you had any thoughts about adding quizzes to clubs?

In order to troubleshoot the issue, I re-installed Links Directory and I believe the error now gets handed off to stratagem
OutOfRangeException: (0)
#0 /eventguyz.net/system/Application/Application.php(236): IPS\Patterns\_ActiveRecord::load('stratagem', 'app_directory', NULL)
#1 /eventguyz.net/system/Member/Club/Club.php(1350): IPS\_Application::load('stratagem')

#8 /eventguyz.net/index.php(13): IPS\_Dispatcher->run()

I had some issues uninstalling and reinstalling stratagem but after a few tries and disabling any other third party I was eventually able to reinstall stratagem and re-enable the other 3rd party applications and now its working.

Cowboy Denny reacted to Ocean West in Hump Day: A Refresh Has Arrived!
@Feneroin That's worse its punitive for entities who would rather manage cash flow instead.
But the base line would have to be flipped and discounts would be applied to longer terms.
Example: My renewal $310/year
Monthly: $25.83
Quarterly: $77.40 - 3% discount or $75.18
Bi-annual: $155 - 5% discount or $147.25
Annually: $310 - 8% discount or $285.20

Thanks.
