    If I'm correct the 3.4.x branch had other pages indexed too. Everything was like. First page had 'Page 1 of 3' and the first post text. Page number 2 had 'Page 2 of 3' and the first post text of the second page.

    Kind of. Having an instant alert on your phone (“[X] quoted you“) works differently than having to check your mail to even get a notification. All these Facebook groups, WhatsApp groups on so on thrive because everything happens so fast. A typical forum use, where you post something and come back one or two days later to manually check if there is a reply feels pretty old-school in comparison.
    (Not that I am a fan of all this. I usually turn off push notifications. But I can still say that it is extremely effective in regards to user engagement.)

    I think you answered your question right there. People are drawn back into their apps for Facebook/Twitter/their messenger apps and so on all day every day, but the same is not possible for any IPS community, since there are no push notifications. So it’s no wonder when forums are on decline while social media wins.

    100% understand where you are coming from. It’s time out of your presumably jammed packed work day for you to write something up and I appreciate it’s likely of no consequence.
    All I can ask is that you pretty please with icing on top try to make time for it, even despite all of that, because at least then someone of some developer stature has done what webkit/Apple claims they need done right now. If you look at the feedback that has stacked up, it’s actually of fairly poor quality. I’ve seen how the IPS team can lobby for and justify decisions even right here in heated feature debates. If there is any group I trust to put something on that bug tracker that is well written and justified, it’s your team.
    You never know until you try is the old adage. It may be increasing the odds someone revisits this at Apple with the business team from 0.0001% to 0.0002%, but as someone who desperately wants the feature and thinks the long term health of forum software as a whole requires the feature, I sincerely believe we need to try. All of us.

    I say leave Apple and it's iPhones in the dust. Why must everybody wait for some company which may end up NEVER doing that? I sincerely believe that you should go with Android which has a HUGE userbase. That would benefit IPS users NOW bring more profit NOW. I honestly can't think why you haven't done this yet. ACP -> Menu Manager -> add external links (no option for internal link in menu manager)
    My renewals -> yourdomain.ext/classifieds/myrenewals/&do=myRenewals
    My wishlist -> yourdomain.ext/classifieds/wishlist/&do=viewWishlist
    For "My Adverts" link it's a bit more complicated, because it's a dynamic link.
    Two options:
    1. if you have pages app:
    2. with js

    Absolutely - and we did this with a compromise. Make a preview tool available for those few customers who have valid edge cases, without adding Yet Another Button in a prominent location for all our other customers. Every extra button or toggle we add to a page increases the complexity for users a little bit more, mostly unnecessarily. We try to consider all users and balance functionality with simplicity as much as we can.

    @InvisionHQ, it is not about absence itself. It is about not talking with your clients. These are some suggestions :
    Let your clients know, that you are on vacation and not available. Do it public, here in forum. Create a kind of automatic reply that you send every time you get a PM. The same as above: "Sorry, I am on vacations." Inform clients when you are available again, like "I'll be back on [date]". It is always easier to wait if you have a time frame. React to the issues in your support topics, write anything, but write, do not ignore. My personal negative example: I have posted a critical issue with your another app over a month ago. I have not got any answer, nor "yep, I will look into it [time frame]" neither "no, it might be critical for you, but I do not care" or just "I am on vacation now, be back [date], please do not disturb me".  If you try change to point of view to mine, what would you think in this situation? By the way, I have uninstalled your other app, so no need to react any more.
    Disabling apps - is not a good idea. Just tell your clients when you are available again and where they should report bugs. Here? On your site? A bug tracker would be helpful to see if there are unsolved issues and how many. Also to see how often you address the bugs. The issues in support topics are often overlooked.

    Maxxius reacted to ASTRAPI in Community Guide on Setting Up Wasabi and CloudFlare
    Hello
    (This is a community guide on how to setup Wasabi and Cloudflare, as a significantly cheaper replacement for Amazon S3 and Cloudfront.  The author has no affiliate arrangement with any of the companies listed in the guide and offers the guide as a free community resource.  You should consult with your hosting provider and / or server administrator before proceeding with the guide.)
    BACKGROUND:
    Invision Communities contain rich content, from forum attachments to gallery images to download files.  These resources add up over time.
    Here are real examples of communities that I provide server administration for:
    - Website A: 400 GB of total storage and 1.2 TB of total monthly bandwidth
    - Website B: 800 GB of total storage and 14 TB of total bandwidth
    Invision Community allows a file storage configuration with Amazon S3 and a content distribution network (CDN) of your choice:

    WHAT IS WASABI?
    Wasabi Cloud  is faster and cheaper than Amazon S3 for object storage, offers unlimited egress for bandwidth, and compatible with Cloudflare.  One of the biggest hidden expenses of using Amazon S3 is not the cost of storage itself, but the bandwidth to deliver objects in and out.  Wasabi does not charge for egress bandwidth, which can save on the majority of the true cost of Amazon S3. It also provides an S3-compliant interface, which means it can be used as a perfect drop-in replacement for Amazon S3 storage and immediately usable on all Invision Communities.

    Wasabi is 80% cheaper and 6x faster than Amazon S3, with 100% data immutability protection, and no data egress fees or API charges. Created by Carbonite co-founders and cloud storage pioneers David Friend and Jeff Flowers, Wasabi is on a mission to commoditize the storage industry. Wasabi is a privately held company based in Boston, MA.
    In March of 2018, Wasabi pioneered the cloud storage industry’s first ‘unlimited free egress’ pricing plan. We are excited to join forces with Cloudflare and the Bandwidth Alliance, validating that the early business models of Cloud 1.0 vendors no longer applies in a world that expects unlimited everything.  What this means in practice is that you can use Cloudflare services (including the free plan) like blazing-fast DNS, WAF firewall, performance improvements on the fly, and much more.  Forums users will request a topic, and all static content can be picked up from Cloudflare's optimized services that will connect to Wasabi.

    At the moment, Wasabi offers three Datacenters:
    1)US-WEST
    2)US-EAST
    3)EU-CENTRAL

    One price. Lightning fast speed. No hidden fees.

    You can check and compare the prices above.

    GUIDE:
    BEFORE PROCEEDING, PLEASE BACKUP YOUR DATA FIRST!
    YOUR FILES WILL BE IN PRIVATE MODE AND WILL NOT BE ACCESSIBLE ON YOUR FORUM !
    YOU MUST GET A PAID PLAN TO BE ABLE TO ACTIVATE THE INVISION FILE PERMISSIONS AND GET YOUR FILES ACCESSIBLE AT YOUR FORUMS.
    JUST ADD YOUR CREDIT CARD NOW (AT YOUR PROFILE PAGE) AND THEY WILL CHARGE YOU 5,99$ FOR A MONTH FOR 1TB STORAGE AND UNLIMITED BANDWIDTH.
    THE FREE TRIAL WILL NOT WORK FOR INVISION !

    Step 1: Create a CName at CloudFlare
    We start by creating a cname at Cloudflare:
    cname -> cdn -> cdn.yourdomain.com.s3.eu-central-1.wasabisys.com  <--For Europe datacenter
    or
    cname -> cdn -> cdn.yourdomain.com.s3.us-west-1.wasabisys.com  <--For US-WEST datacenter
    or
    cname -> cdn -> cdn.yourdomain.com.s3.wasabisys.com  <--For US-EAST datacenter
    Like this:

    Step 2: Create a bucket on Wasabi
    First we sign up for a free account at Wasabi Cloud: https://wasabi.com/sign-up/
    Then we create a bucket:

    It is important to name it as: cdn.yourdomain.com

    Then keep default suspend Versioning and Suspend Logging:

    Then click CREATE BUCKET:

    Step 3: Retrieve your Access Keys
    Go to the menu on top left and click Access keys on the left. Click on "Create New Access Key."

    Copy / save the access key and the secret key:

    Step 4: Setting up a new file storage in ACP
    Login to Admin Control Panel and navigate to Overview at the Files category and then click at the right side at Storage settings:

    Then we click at Configurations and at the right side at Create New:

    We select Amazon s3 and we add the following info:

    Save it.
    Step 5: Set the new storage at storage settings
    Navigate to Storage settings and select from the drop down menu the new Amazon s3 bucket.

    Keep only at your server your theme resources:

    *Attachments and Downloads doesn't work out of the box as it seems there is some hardcoded code at Invision related to S3...
    To make them work you just need to install the addon bellow: (tested with Invision 4.4.4).

    Then wait for any Invision background tasks to finish and check.
    I hope that you will benefit from this tutorial and get better performance while saving a lot of money 🙂
    Enjoy!
    OTHER NOTES:
    If you are already using S3 then it is very easy to move straight to Wasabi by following the above tutorial as it is NOT needed to move back your files to server and then to Wasabi.

    FYI, in response to being asked about the list from the medium article, Apple PWA dev responded as follows:   EVERYONE WHO IS READING THIS, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PROVIDE FEEDBACK HERE: https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=182566 EXPLAINING WHY PWA PUSH NOTIFICATIONS ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO SOFTWARE LIKE INVISION WHERE A WHITE LABEL MOBILE APP FOR EACH COMMUNITY IS NOT FEASIBLE. PLEASE TRY TO AVOID "+1 I NEED THIS" AND PROVIDE AS MUCH SPECIFIC, CONCRETE DETAIL ON HOW YOU WOULD MAKE USE OF THE ABILITY TO SEND PUSH NOTIFICATIONS TO MOBILE USERS AND WHY A NATIVE APP ISNT A SOLUTION
    I asked Invision if they had plans to make a formal use case proposal through this channel and as of right now they do not, so it is on us as a community to advocate loud and often for why push needs to be implemented on iOS with concrete examples of how our communities would use it (and just as importantly, not abuse it).
    @Matt, I appreciate that the view is that Apple is strategically holding back push support in iOS so as not to cannibalize the app store, but when the Apple dev who is responsible for implementation is specifically asking for concrete examples from people who would benefit from push API PWA support in iOS, we should still work together to provide that feedback even if it's ultimately a dead-end.
    @Joel R you are probably one of the best in this community at taking all the noise from in here and distilling into actionable efforts, so anything you can do to help wrangle us into a coherent community driven effort to make our request heard loud and clear to Apple here would be sincerely appreciated.
    Also tagging some of the devs I see posting often who might be able to help provide the technical info submissions for their apps, etc.
    @Fosters @Adriano Faria @CodingJungle @opentype @newbie LAC @TheJackal84 @All Astronauts
    Also, as a final thought, I'm not sure how much communication there is between the development teams for Invision, Xenforo, NodeBB, Discourse, Vanilla, etc. etc., but this is one of those topics where forming a lobbying group of developers where you can aggregate the number of users across all platforms and deliver some consistent messaging would be really helpful IMO. Any victories we can make with PWA in iOS ultimately serves to keep all of our communities alive and able to compete with other closed platforms, as ultimately user engagement on mobile through notifications (and in the case of iOS, the complete lack thereof) is going to make or break many of us.

    +1000.  I have a community for enthusiasts of a specific sport.  My community competes for participation and attention against a Facebook group for the same sport.  The Facebook group is crushing my community for daily interactions and up-to-the-minute breaking news type posts.  I think this is due to 2 big things, among others: 1, people are on FB all the time anyway, 2, PUSH NOTIFICATIONS.  Just to level-set, a push notification is one that shows up on your phone or desktop if you allow it, regardless of whether you're currently using that app.  Existing IPS notifications are great, but the user only sees them once they browse to the site.  Email notifications are not a solution and should be minimized for obvious reasons.
    Tapatalk is one solution, but IMO it is a non-starter because the look and feel is nowhere as good as the mobile version of IPS, and to get your own branding and ads on Tapatalk you have to pay.  I already pay $70/mo for IPS, that's enough.  Tapatalk is its own ecosystem and they are very much in control of the user experience.
    The only things saving my community from being obsoleted by the Facebook group is the sheer fact that a forum is a much better archive of information, and is a more dedicated environment.  The searching and organization cannot be matched by Facebook.  A FB group flows by like a river, and topics are gone and forgotten within a day or so.  There is also no way to monetize a FB group.  My community sells subscriptions which pays for the hosting and the rest we donate to charitable organizations in our sport.  A huge reason FB wins is that dopamine rush from receiving push notifications.
    If IPS would provide a push notifications solution, there would be no need for a half-baked 3rd party solution, and it would dramatically improve our forums' ability to compete with Facebook.
