Why are invisioncommunity devs so blind for webp?

It's not like it requires any other extra work, since the compression of webp is already existant by nature.
Simply allowing webp by default shouldn't be the biggest deal, or is it?
It's already widely accepted by all major browsers, so there's no excuse on that anymore, especially not since you dropped IE support yourselfs.
But still, every request and any conversation about webp have either been put down, or ignored.

Could we please get an explanation why you're so anti-fast-web?
I'm honestly wondering why is that.

I'm also wondering if the spacer.png image load implementation is still best practice either.
Wouldn't it make more sense to add native lazy loading instead?
Really keen to live up to todays SEO standards and performance requirements.

The Marketplace is a service. While you are of course acquiring third party resources, you are not obtaining them directly from third party authors and it is really no different than other app stores. Your transaction is conducted through IPS and the Marketplace is a remote service. The point here is just to dispel the silly notion that we're in "breach of contract." The EULA makes clear the fact that a renewal is required for all updates, services, etc.
To provide further clarification, an expired license does not shut off the software and you may continue its use in an "as-is" state (at time of expiration), but it does effectively render both the license and status as a customer as inactive. It is no secret that our company is based on the recurring investment model, so while we don't want anyone to feel held hostage to renewals and we try to reasonably accommodate all customers past and present, our decisions and prioritization of goals will ultimately be in the interest of those continuing along side of us, sharing our overall vision.
With all of that said, this topic has been discussed several times and ultimately, the Marketplace was moved to the AdminCP for what I hope are obvious reasons. A significantly improved and smooth experience for the majority of customers who want a point-and-click experience, consistent with most non-classic "forum" platforms. We want to take every reasonable measure possible to ensure that when you click to install something from the Marketplace, it will be a successful and safe experience for you. We've tightened the framework around that to ensure you're notified with seamless updates from authors and anything installed through the Marketplace framework has been reasonably reviewed by us. We made the decision to disallow manual downloads from the Marketplace as it is entirely counterproductive to the goal we set out to achieve in the first place.
I want to stress that you are welcome to contact an author for manual file provisions if you would like and we do not prohibit them from providing it. You may also purchase from some authors directly if you wish. The only caveat for both cases is, you would use the manual (old) framework to install and update these resources manually. A warning will also be generated because these are untested files - similar to Mac and Windows. Beyond that, we're not standing in your way of using the "old school" way - we are just not facilitating it as again, it is counterproductive to our goal of something that resembles more of a proper app store and not just a repository of "files."
I'm sorry for the disappointment to those find the previous method to work better for them. As you know, we try to take on board as much feedback as we can - after all, there's no point to any of this without customers. Nonetheless, while we've heard the feedback loud and clear, we do not intend on reversing course on downloads or policy changes, so at this juncture, I would very respectfully ask that we move on to other, more actionable feedback items.
Thank you as always for your continued business.

I didn't realize how much space was being utilized until I switched to 4.5. This is kind of a lot I agree 😂
I would love to somehow simplify this so it's about 75% shorter in length. For instance, it says the author and time stamp twice.

Totally agree. You buy an APP, you retain the right to use it, regardless of having an active IPS licence.

Having the marketplace inside of the application in the ACP is a good idea, but - access to the marketplace is governed by having a current license renewal in place.  This means that if a license has expired and the user does not wish to renew at this point in time (for whatever reasons), if their site has a catastrophic failure and they need to reinstall from scratch, the applications they have purchase which need to be reinstalled, what happens to them?  Will they be available in the ACP or will they need to renew their license before they can access what they have paid for?
I believe that the option to install from the ACP should be retained as it's helpful, but the option to download what you have paid for should also be made available.  After all, it is we the users who have paid for this app or plugin.  Thoughts?

I pose another conundrum, If I purchase your Steam Profile Integration resource, and you decided not to renew the license anymore, I lose the ability to install it since it disappears from the marketplace and I don't have any files locally?
Sincerely the file local allows me to analyze the code and implement an IP.board resource with my site in Laravel, just like I did as Custom Links, now everything turns out more machinous.

I love Evanto's method, although I hate the fact that if a Developer deletes the resource who bought it lost it, because it was the buyer's job to save it in a cloud storage. Unfortunately IP.Board now doesn't even allow this anymore.

Askancy reacted to CodingJungle in Why aren't posts numbered within a thread?
as a developer myself, I wouldn't call it a choice or "diversity of needs", but a redundancy. it also creates inconsistency imho. as you would have people offering up the perma links/link embeds, others referring to post number/id. as a long time member of a rather large tech board out there, the guides and threads that use perma links/embeds over referencing a post in a thread by a number, are far more popular and easier to consume than they use to be when the standard fair was to do reference the post number/id.
also there is another huge advantage that you are denying your community by wading in the waters of days gone by, link juice.

I understand the design is made up of rows, and some of the stuff like "follow this content" is probably a global row that gets added across all types of content. And then you have to have a "responsive" design thanks to Google's mandates, which makes it more complicated. So I understand it can never be "perfect".
Still, I think for the most commonly viewed parts of the forum, having three inches of white space below the forum title, something needs to be done about that.
The only reason I am pointing this out is because we are moving away from our heavily customized skin in order to make updates easier, and because the default IPB skin is now good enough that I feel it's okay to use. (We just replaced the header and footer with out own.)
Ideally, this is what it should look like:

It's okay.  I've already noticed developers are spending more effort on their own development websites where the files can be obtained without the restrictions.  Some are happy to transfer your purchase so you only have to pay for renewals on their site.  Just need to ask nicely.  In the end, I'm not going to be the one hurting and those developers won't be losing 10% profit.

Because not everyone has hundreds to thousands of members that can donate at every given moment. Some people are still trying to grow their forum the right way by not using freeware forums or cheaper alternatives. This also helps in the long run so you don't need to worry about converting over to a paid platform in the future...

I know how you feel. It is ridiculous to have to pay so much money just to access the marketplace files you have already paid for. You now have to renew all of your suite's app licenses just to access one marketplace update. And, if you try to get around paying for all of your suite's apps renewals by cancelling some, you then have to pay full price if you ever want them back. I've been holding off on renewing for this reason.

Good to see you around, Tiger. That is very... passionate feedback on the URL reset fee. Although it's been addressed before, I'm happy to do so again.
Firstly, prior to limiting the resets, it was very easy to "license hop" - that is, swap URLs around, obtain support, upgrades, etc., swap them around and repeat, etc. So, while not necessarily the original intended purpose, it does help keep the honest... honest in the same sort of way that a deadbolt keeps the undetermined at bay--obviously, the determined/committed can kick the door in.
Secondly, in many cases, there actually are costs incurred with fresh installations by way of support. Frequent URL resets are a byproduct of tossing ideas around, deleting, reinstalling, configuring and deleting. Quite often, there are numerous support requests involved and unfortunately, often the same questions/concerns over and over again on each reinstall. The spirit of tech support provided is based on a single installation and not so much to support 'tinkering' and perpetual reinstallation support. The fee, when applied, helps (in a small way) offset some of that overhead.
I would hope a number of customers here would attest to the fact that we will generally just update the URL for you if you contact us - especially if you're just changing the URL on an existing installation. In cases such as those described above, the fee may apply.
I'm sorry you consider it a barrier, but I can assure you, we're not funding private yachts from license reset fees. 🙂 Even with license reset fees, we frankly still typically tend to have a net loss when it comes to many of those (not all, but many) that kind of toss ideas out to see what sticks. You've been around a long time (for which we're appreciative!) - you're a power user (who still sees us as a 'forum provider') and you won't likely require much support throughout your tinkering journey. That's not usually the case here.
Just drop us a note if you find you need to change the URL on file. We're generally able to help if that's all you need.
    Thanks for the feedback.

If there's one thing I can't stand is someone using blackmail as a lever to assert one’s rights.
I needed this service a couple of times and all I had to do was open a ticket.
It seems quite clear to me that this "fee" was put as a deterrent for those who abuse of the service not for "normal" requests.

So, we create maybe 5 or more, all licensed nulled and we only buy one license. And as you need support, downloads from the marketplace and updates, you switch your license from forum to forum...
If I change domain several times every 6 months, take a break and think about what you really want to accomplish.

I’ve never met anyone that needs to change a domain every 6 months let alone every couple of months... It really doesn’t make sense. Be sure on what you want to do and not give up on something because it’s not working.
Sorry, but for once I side with IPS, it’s a preventative measure to insure piracy concerns as explained on the page.

You're right, I've seen now and it allows, unfortunately though it doesn't indicate if this is a video or an image, at this point it would be cute/better to have the “play” icon to indicate a media content.
Yes, I know, but I never understood why a user should care about the name of the image. I think that goes to break the beauty of the design. Also if one uploads 50 images together, changing name to every single image becomes a huge job, for something that in my opinion shouldn't appear there, at least. In my opinion that be inserted just above “Taken with”, in the lightbox.  Or they include the function for “rename all to:” a bit like when setting copyright in on mass.
It's a bit like in the attachments of images in posts, rightly the name of the attachment (if image) is not shown because it's not of interest.
Moreover I am not a developer of the IPS scene, so I do not know if it is true, and I ask you. Is it true that plugins can't include elements in lightboxes?
I hope you improve this application that really has so much potential.

I honestly believe that IP.Board is one of the most complete platforms, but unfortunately its additional content (Downloads aside) needs more attention.
In Gallery you can also upload videos as well as images, but in every button there is “Insert image”, wouldn't it be better to put “insert media”? (obviously where video content is allowed to load) Whenever a person uploads a video, the video doesn't have any thumbnails, I have no idea if with php you can extrapolate a frame from the video, but I sincerely believe it would take too much. Why not allow a custom thumb to be loaded? Maybe with FFmpeg? YouTube style, 3/5 thumbnails where the user chooses the best one.
When a blank album is created, a blank thumb is created, in the list, wouldn't it be better a written with: “There are no images in this album yet”?
File name in the gallery, why? in albums me and my users upload lots of screnshots, it's hard to edit every single name... But why make it appear in “ipsPhotoPanel”?
An edit I asked for a few times, and I tried to make it custom, spoiler images. Now every community has the possibility to hide images, because they have spoiler or NFSW content, such as the method used by Reddit or Steam. And finally, a secondary thing but definitely nice and appreciable in a gallery, a personalized video player, and not the classic HTML5. A video player that allows you to put the logo of the site and other customizations, example: VideoJS, JWPlayer or Plyr.
