I'm curious how I can get my server info to display by the -- icon at the bottom of my board, how can we find the stats? I notice it doesn't work here either.

Lee Craven reacted to Wolfie in When will 3.0.2 be released?
Not really asking, just know that someone is going to create a thread asking, so thought I'd toss it up so that the initial "When It's Ready™" and complaints about people trying to rush IPS will all be out of the way.

    :)

    Disclaimer:
If you think I'm actually asking when IP.Board v3.0.2 will be released, then you need to read this post again. Continue until you stop thinking that I'm seriously asking.

We can never fix "all" bugs in any particular release. Every day we come in, there's more new bugs reported. If we tried to have all open bugs resolved, you'd never get 3.0.1 released.

I've said this before, but I'll reiterate - people shouldn't get hung up on the raw number of bugs. It means nothing. Hardcoded text is reported as a bug, but for the majority of our users that's not an issue. Importing a language pack using windows-2943692837 when the original translator used iso-8859-1927889237 doesn't convert correctly in 3.0.0 - again, for the majority of our users this doesn't matter.

There will be bugs reported but not yet fixed when 3.0.1 is released, I'm positive of that.

Lee Craven got a reaction from AndyF in Suggestion: Easier User Agents
Why are the user agents not simple like they were in 2.x.x? I cannot for the life of me figure out why when I see I have a guest online check the IP and reverse lookup the IP it shows as googlebot, yet it doesn't show in my online list, so the bot is crawling yet it doesn't say that 'Google' is online, I have it set to show in the online list, and allow the search engines to browse as members yet 99% of the time they don't show in the online list, I think I've seen google show as "online" maybe twice since IPB3 Final. When I was using 2.x.x it always showed all the bots when they were online, and it was a simple list to import into the ACP, now it's all this crazy regex stuff that I cannot for the life of me figure out...

    Example:

    Googles Regex is:

    Googl(e|ebot)(-Image)?/

IPS have no documentation what so ever on how to work with this new system, I for one have NO clue, any chance it can be more user friendly for the typical end user, all I want is to display the bots in the online list when they are on my site?

I don't have access to raw logs so I can't even find out the info from the logs, I've seen 4 different bots online now that are in the user agents list yet they DO NOT show in the online list.

I could not actually find it on there apart from the combined one, so made another one quickly, but you have seen it anyway and are writing one for 3.0 (which will mean one less one for me) :)

I'm guessing that was aimed at me.

I didn't completely disregard the purpose of those modifications. I was stating through personal opinions that for me they are pointless.

Also, I said that the shoutbox influences people to not post in the forums. Not the Chat bar.

Regardless of those points, I believe that with the chat bar an option should be included to either allow it to be used globally with all members as well as with friends.

I just want to say that something is definitely right about IPB3.0.

In the couple weeks that IPB3.0 RC1 has been out, I've already downloaded a dozen hooks/mods that have drastically improved my forum. My members are loving the little features here and there.

Although I can't say I know much about the code, I will admit that it seems a lot easier for modders to create really awesome hooks (with relative ease?). New mods are released almost everyday, and it's obvious that there should be some really awesome applications in the near future!
Specifically, want to give credit to some of the community devs/coders who have already released some really useful mods: SOSInvision, Michael, m4rtin, Alex, MichaelJohn, tera

We turned it off because a few of our members felt the need to target certain other members and negative rep all their posts. In any event, you can turn it on and off and there are some controls for it in the ACP.

@FrostedPopFart You can feel free to block me, no hard feelings, I just feel that it's good business to follow up on a date provided, weather it be a 'rough date' or not, if you give a day/date/month, update people paying with there money, if you were offered something else I don't know, like a *rebate* for EXAMPLE from your mortgage company and they said to expect it around the back end of June, and July started and you had heard nothing, I guarantee you would be the first one on the horn blowing steam.

I'm not aggrivated, nor upset, I'm just looking for a follow-up from the announcement, nothing more nothing less, I was given that answer and we move on. You could read the topic title and you read it, that openly tells the world that you ALSO wanted to know, I bet if it said it was going to be in the Client Area this evening you would be giving the post kudos!

Nuff said, questions are openly free Mr PopTart, so on that note, I love you man :P

Again what an active post I've created, similar to the "quick question" one I posted before haha - No I understand +/- a week or two, I'm just being impatient and wanted an update, happy you were able to pass one forth to me :D - As for the skin contest, well good luck fellas, wish I could compete, I have enough issues navigating the board let alone coding styles for it

I have to agree I love this skin too, it's fast, clean and well laid out, maybe a few more color choices that could be added to just use this skin along with color (Still can't get used to spelling COLOUR the yank way, guess I would look retarded requesting CHEQUES for payment also right? Checks? Thats like a CHECK LIST not a darn form of payment :P - well I live here now so I better try adjust) changes. I look forward to the new designs though.

Are you guys going to have a page with all the skins in a contest on them so we can view them in like a "Working theme preview" type of way? That would be cool followed by a rating system (1 rating per member).

Here is what I get to play with now whilst my IPB 3 forum soaks up new members. This is for my space satellite web server, I'll let you join if you send me $4800, I'll give you a supporter status or some other cool picture to put on your profile or in your sig (can't allow you to be a moderator though).

Playing around with my board for the past few weeks, I'm not finding all to many bugs or issues that are 'big problems' - Do we need to go to beta 4? Or can it go to final so I can start my live board?

No attacks people :P I'm asking an honest question, I just want to install the board so it won't expire and I can start building content and open them up for the world to start contributing to the boards on my site. Or maybe make Beta 4 upgradeable, that would make me a happy camper too :D

While we may test some things in beta releases of browsers, we can never properly support a browser beta release. They have their own bugs which we shouldn't be attempting to correct for.

When FF 3.1 or 3.5 or whatever version they decide to slap on it is released final, we will of course correct any problems within IPB that affect functionality in the new release. Until then, we have to code for Firefox 3.0, as it's the current stable release.

As for why skin bugs aren't worked through as quickly as others - there are several reasons

    1) There's one designer and 3 backend developers
    2) A lot of the remaining skin bugs are much more challenging to correct than earlier bug reports. Sometimes one bug can take several hours to correct, or requires huge amounts of code to be refactored to correct.
    3) Rikki has other work to attend to simultaneously (such as the lofi skin) which may not be listed in the bug tracker, but still needs to be done and takes time.

I have to agree, people are NOT paying for NEW RELEASES, they are paying for support and support upgrades/releases, IPS could easily make it's customers pay for a new license to get the LATEST version example from 2.x.x -> 3.x.x - just like other software developers do. When you buy Adobe photoshop 4 do you expect to get adobe photoshop 7 for free because you bought the first one? Not at all, so in return IPS are being generous.
