Happy Hump Day, fam. Today's a big day (I know I always say that every Hump Day but... tenor.gif)

    *Says in a whisper* We've officially soft launched 4.6 🤫 🎉

It's a soft launch because, well, you know how things can go 🔥. However, we're pretty darn satisfied with this rollout. Possibly The best ever. A more formal announcement will arrive in the near future.

Right now, 4.6 is available for those on Cloud or those who've tested out our several Beta releases.

In case there's a glitch in the matrix, please make a backup of your community before upgrading.

If you need a refresher, @Matt laid out what is new in 4.6 in our latest blog post.

Speaking of, I asked our Director of Development to share his thoughts on this release:

🥲 In regards to 4.6, Matt said Invision Community "continues to build on its stable community platform by adding multiple new features."

Some of these include "anonymous posting; ideal for mental and physical health communities that can now allow their members to post questions anonymously, no-code integration with 3,000 other apps with Zapier, better mobile support, improved solved topic functionality and the brand new achievements system designed to nudge and reward good behavior and content."

"This release elevates your community experience with Invision Community significantly through multiple touch points."

We hope you guys enjoy 4.6 as much as we do!

Bringing this plane home... Since it's tradition, here are a list of updates since Beta 3 was released last week:

    - Fixed an issue where the expiration date for a Member Subscription would not update when editing the subscription purchase.
    - Fixed an issue where PayPal Billing Agreements / Subscriptions may not charge the correct value for sales tax.
    - Improved performance when generating comment widgets on large sites.
    - Fixed an issue where adding a theme setting to a parent theme didn't update children themes with the new setting
    - Fixed an issue where the SQL Toolbox couldn't display query results
    - Fixed an issue where the register button in the checkout process didn't open in a new tab if redirect registration is enabled.
    - Fixed an issue where the full upgrader would show an empty error box.
    - Fixed an issue where moving members after searching on a freeform custom field could return incorrect results.
     - Fixed an issue where online/recently browsing counts can be incorrect.

Thoughts on the official launch of 4.6?! Drop us a line in the comments. We'd love to hear from you!

Is there a way to know when our critical plugins/apps support 4.6... coming from someone who is still on 4.4 and was waiting for probably 4.6.2 to go live...

Def congrats on the 4.6 gold btw!!

  2. I think I spotted and SEO bug.  If you go to a url:

    https://invisioncommunity.com/forums/topic/461972-xyz

the real money is the "461972".  IPB treats that as gold so even if a topic is renamed it just redirects you to the latest url/topic.  So if you type in https://invisioncommunity.com/forums/topic/461972-xyz2323232 it would redirect to the latest furl for the topic.

Here is the issue.  Take this topic.  The old behavior was if I change the name/furl for this topic to:

    https://invisioncommunity.com/forums/topic/461972-hump-day-46-beta-2-is-NOTLIVE

    it would redirect correctly to:

    https://invisioncommunity.com/forums/topic/461972-hump-day-46-beta-2-is-live

    But now it redirects to:

    https://invisioncommunity.com/forums/topic/461972-hump-day-46-beta-2-is-live/?ct=1622349311

Which for whatever reason includes the current unixtimestamp. Odd.  And it splits SEO rankings up (dilutes = bad).

The canonical isn't wrong, upon source inspection (https://invisioncommunity.com/forums/topic/461972-hump-day-46-beta-2-is-live/).  But why ever add the unix time stamp?

So I decided to have a go at upgrading the main site on my MAMP install and I thought I would choose to NOT run the new achievements. Upgrade literally took 2 minutes and was very smooth (as it should be on a local install).

Now in ACP I can see that the rank system is still the same as if the achievements was enabled. The only difference being that the points and badges are not shown on the front end. But, I can still customise all the points and badges and the rules? If I'm using the old ranking system, why is it still displayed as points in ACP?

I cannot see a way to enable the full experience so I guess you must be sure on what you choose before upgrading?

And where have the pips gone if I'm using ranks? 🙄

I'm a little confused, and I'm finding it that I am getting confused a lot this week. 🙁

    Crazy!

    We can't convert after upgrading?

  4. @Matt. We love the new feature.  No one is crapping on it.  We just feel the custom titles were a big deal to our old members.  In fact I enabled a group rule to make it a reward when people hit 500 posts.

We are just asking that you not take that away and delete the user data when upgrading.  Instead find a way to preserve it AND leverage your new system.  They can coexist!

    Can you chime in?

  5. Is there a way to use it only for these "critical" to deliver emails?  I'm fine for the rest of our notifications and other emails to be internal.  This would allow us to use a very reliable service for those emails and our IP/server for the rest.  This would be cost beneficial as well as ensuring critical emails get delivered.

Interesting idea. Question: if topics include tags, couldn't the member in theory just follow that tag? The tag could represent a category.

For instance on my community, you can follow the tag "Lady Gaga" which could serve as a category for anything Gaga-related. Thoughts?

It would require the topic to be tagged.  My members basically want a way to organize threads they are either tracking or want to "save" for future reference.  Their organization style is unique to them.

  7. A member on my site suggested that there could be a way to create "custom" (per user) categories for threads that they follow.  This would allow them to digest things better than a huge list of followed threads.  So when they follow they would get a drop down of categories they have defined (if more than the default of one).  When they view followed threads, they would be listed under either the default or customer categories to help them find things.

    Seems like a useful idea?!
