Morrigan got a reaction from Jordan Miller in "Kindness" plugin
And I hope that you can appreciate that this is the last post I'm going to read by you that I don't have to manually click on!
    Yay you!
You've made it onto my tiny top 5 (aka one of the only 5 people) that I've ignored on this site because you both don't read my posts and you are rude/unkind to me constantly. Where as this mod/plugin/thing would make you think twice about it, you've not thought twice about it throughout any of our interactions and as an adult with my own keys and credit card, I've decided that you're unkind enough to "unfriend" and "ignore". That's me using the unkind feature as its intended. Thanks!!!

So many posts, suggestions but for nothing. Admins and moderators are not parents, teachers or doctors. Community have rules, policies, warning system and that is more than enough!

In my experience with online communities, the overt adoption or promotion of "kindness" or "welcoming" as a cultural attribute generally ends up being largely performative (regardless of how sincere the original impulse is) and often results in a passive-aggressive suppression of one or more parts of the community population. This is generally because when "kindness" or "being nice" is the focus of the culture, the tendency is to consider any breath of discord as a violation of the social norm, provoking a backlash that effectively prevents or discourages people from raising legitimate concerns and issues.
In such communities, there's also often a select few members who somehow manage to skirt the "kindness" doctrine without majority censure, but when someone finally has had enough of their harassment and speaks out, that's when the "kindness" police finally step in and spread the fiction that "both sides" are responsible and tell everyone to chill out. The thread gets locked and the "niceness" of the atmosphere is restored, but not before setting (or more likely, reinforcing) a lot of precedents and making it clear just how deep the "kindness" really runs and the fact that it's more performative than a reflection of the true community dynamic. The real interest is in the skin-deep appearance that people are being kind.
In short... I don't think a nuisance checkbox will accomplish anything but to make you believe you've done something to further your kindness initiative. Making a community kind requires a lot of deeper thinking and effort than this, and a better goal would be to make your community more just. A just community is inherently a kinder one.

I mean most big networks use the moderated feature. Its called shadow banning. Its common practice for reddit and many other platforms that don't want to outright remove the person but want to lessen their impact. That's basically what the content moderation feature allows for. The only thing you do from here is remove the "moderated" formatting and then the only way the person knows that they haven't had their post approved would be to log out and look at the thread.

I mean all of my templates survive upgrades but I choose to do most of it in CSS because the data will never change so the most "updated" things you normally need to do is through CSS but only if you've completely customized it.
The above are using other IPS blocks that I just made minor customizations of DATA for myself.

I'm not saying paid. I customize all of my own block templates to work the way I want. So for example:

Last I checked this was the default Articles/Pages block:

So not sure which block you showed them but its completely doable but not out of the box. It would just be a custom block template. Super easy to do but not something that is just available.

I don’t need them to hide it. I need it to behave @Joel R

My daughter attempted to take her life in December and unfortunately that plus my boyfriend getting COVID in January where I now have it? I’m not going to lie, the fact that I CANNOT update because I don’t have the money to do it but am so incessantly reminded of it with an expired license is hot garbage.
If my license was active that’s on me and I am making an active decision to ignore it. When my license is inactive that is not the case. I don’t see why a “if license inactive no reminders” statement can’t be added to them.
@Charles @Lindy is it really necessary to be this insistent to remind me of what a hard time I’m having? It was hard enough dealing (and still dealing) with my life issues. This feels just like an extra kick in the teeth in my opinion. These last two months have quite literally been the worst of my life, I don’t know why IPS had to rub it in my face every 24-48 hours when it decided to remind me again that my site wasn’t up to date on my expired license that I legit just couldn’t pay for.

This situation was completely temporary for me but a nuisance. I was (as I said in my previous post) able to get my license paid for and updated a few weeks ago now.
This post was done as it was stressful and this insistent niggling reminder of my newly expired license which expired, quite accurately, the same week as my life fell apart was just one more added stress to something that was already stressful.
I didn't need or want help as I knew that once everything came back down to something more level I would be capable of paying and updating but I didn't think that the reminder every day or every other day was necessary or even helpful in my situation of having an inactive license. Hell someone offered to pay for my license and I declined. Its also why I didn't reach out to IPS about it as I knew that as the storm passed everything would be back to normal and that meant me paying my renewal as well as I've been running this site as a beta site for about 5 years now?

NGL, that doesn't magically make money fall out of your pocket. "OMG ITS SUPER IMPORTANT LET ME NOT GET THAT PRESCRIPTION MED FOR MY FAMILY MEMBER BECAUSE MY COMMUNITY IS AT RISK!!!!! THEY WILL TOTALLY UNDERSTAND WHY THEY ARE STILL SICK!"
No matter what you do as an administrator you have to make decisions on your priorities and my family and myself will always come first.
I would prefer that if I dismiss it because I can't afford it and can't get it until I can (which I was able to do a few weeks ago mind you and updated immediately) that it go the hell away. I don't need to be on my community where I like to relax and escape from my daily troubles to be reminded of them every other day.

I would second running a one-time REPLACE SQL statement for this specific purpose.
Back up the database, then run something like
UPDATE forums_posts SET post=REPLACE(post,'http://wrongDomain.com/','http://correctDomain.com/'); Note that you may wish to check other similar tables (blog entries, status updates, personal conversations, etc.) but the method is the same, just the table name and column will vary.

I am broke right now and I can't renew my main IPS license. My big life issue has a big thing to do this for me but regardless.
My license expired a week or so ago and I just got notified of the security patch but since my license is expired I cannot update it.
So please just make sure that it doesn't even show patches if we can't download them. Kind of pointless even if it is a security patch.

Morrigan got a reaction from Moonbeam in Application process for joining a club
To be clear I run some RP sites but my main site is a discussion forum on RPs not a roleplay directly.
With the Character Manager you can attach characters to clubs. So, like I advised before, you can have club owners approve characters created by the member attaching them to the club. There isn't currently a way to do that without actually joining the club itself (aka you have to be in the club to attach the character to the club/make it appear in the characters tab).
You can do this one of a few ways similar to how you're already doing this on your site:
A singular forum where game owners can post a topic and people can post links to their characters in the thread and apply to the club/game. When they do that the club owner will be notified, they can check out the character and approve/deny the person by allowing them into the club or not so then they could attach their character to the club.
Allow for anyone to join clubs but only users with characters attached actually play in them. With this method you'd have to give game owners/club owners a moderator group to be able to approve characters. You'd have to trust them to approve characters only for their club.

At this time there is no character attachment approval process because its not a widely used thing for the way the character manager was made. It was made more in the mind of a single RP site where clubs are more used as a character management item (so in my case I use clubs for individuals to organize their characters, plots, ideas etc).
Suggestions for the character manager can be posted here:
    https://rpginitiative.com/forum/488-ips-character-manager-suggestions/
Our next big update will probably be within the next 3-6 months.

Morrigan got a reaction from Joel R in Reporting members without content?
I think there are plenty of other things than links. Inappropriate avatars, signatures, profile headers etc. There is more than one reason that you may want to report a user but not specifically their content.
By all means a member account IS a content item in itself and contains content that is not posted anywhere else in the suite but utilized all over the suite.

Guests "browsing" is not likely if your site is offline. If an IP hits the site it will log it as "browsing". If I knew where your dev build was I could load the front page and be marked as a guest and as browsing even though all I'm seeing is an access denied or login page.
This is just IPS saying that it see's someone actively touched your site within the last X minutes.

Morrigan got a reaction from GazzaGarratt in Ability to disable donation goals
When you delete a donation goal it removes all data associated with it. This includes the name of the thing that people donated for. I would like to keep this information instead of deleting it so it would be nice to simply disable or deactivate a donation goal. It also helps if you want to re-enable/reactivate it later.

Morrigan got a reaction from My Sharona in Can we get an agree or +1 reaction on IPS (or both)?
This is because there are a lot of opinion based threads here. I don't think "Like" is a good reaction when you want to agree or support what has been said in a thread but currently the only agreeable reaction.
Like is a broad (and at least for me) a very default way for people to respond/react to something that they simply think was a good read.
In some cases I would like to actually agree with what the member is saying or support it with a +1. To me agreeing versus liking something will give me a better way to show my appreciation to a members post.
An example a cute joke in the middle of an opinion thread would get a like or a 'haha' but something that brings up good points can get my 'agree'.
