DawPi reacted to Olivia Clark in Invision Community Insight: Spring has sprung and the April Beta is out!
🌸 Welcome to this week's Invision Community Insight! 🌸
Thank you for checking in. I hope you have had a wonderful week! To those in the US or my neck of the woods (as some would say), Happy Spring! I enjoy this time of year and getting outdoors but I know those with allergies may feel differently. How about you? Does spring give you a spring or pep in your step or not so much?
From the Invision Community team, this week ...

Here is what is slated for the April release, version 4.7.9. https://invisioncommunity.com/release-notes/
Live Topics is ready for beta release in April. Feel welcome to join that discussion and excitement.
On Deck
iPhone notifications will be available when Apple releases their latest iOS update later this month.
You will receive notifications regardless of whether or not you are in the browser. How exciting?!
Bounce Management is coming in May.
For Cloud customers, we are adding the ability for you to view reports on bounced/complaint emails, take action on member accounts (purge them or mark them as no notifications), and unblock emails that our platform may be refusing to email. Cloud customers can catch that conversion here: https://invisioncommunity.com/forums/topic/472318-coming-soon-email-bounce-management/#comment-2936928
Our next scheduled event (which will use our Live Topics feature) is our April Release Chat. Follow and add that event to your calendar so you can join us.
Peeking Ahead
Statistics and reporting improvements are nearing completion and our Courses and Lessons applications are progressing nicely.
Finally, for those that like to see what we are up to line by line, here is the changelog for the week.

DawPi reacted to Matt in Dark mode for the IPS documentation and guidance pages
"The Old Man" telling us to get with the times is a special moment. 😆
Dark mode is 99.98% likely to be included with v5 without the need for multiple themes.

Huge thanks to @Daniel F for risking his iPhone by installing the latest iOS beta to get this feature working for us!

DawPi reacted to Matt in iPhone notifications, web app and more
The longest awaited iPhone feature is almost here, native iOS notifications, and we couldn't wait to ensure it is enabled for your Invision Community.
Invision Community 4.7.9 is iPhone push notification ready for when Apple release their latest iOS update later this month. This means you'll finally get notifications on your phone, even when you do not have your browser open, to alert you of new content on followed items and more. A feature Android owners have enjoyed for a while.
With notifications, you can have an authentic native app experience with built-in Invision Community features such as the manifest editor.
The manifest editor allows you to edit your theme icons, colours and URL for when your members add your community to their phone's homepage. This manifest file helps mobile devices understand how to display your community site when launched from the home screen.
Your members can add your community to their home screen with the share button. Once it has been added, it looks and feels like a native app downloaded from the App Store.
With Apple finally allowing native notifications and Invision Community's mobile-ready UI coupled with the manifest editor, you can have a real app experience without needing a mobile app.
iPhone PWA.mp4
We intend to bring more functionality and ease of use to mobile devices over the coming releases.
We hope you're looking forward to iOS native push notifications as much as we are!
The features discussed in this announcement are available in both Invision Community and Invision Community Classic.

DawPi got a reaction from SeNioR- in (DP41) Mod Action Notify
Hm, I'll take a look soon and let you know.
Hm, it should skip it:
/* Do not send if author is doing mod action */ if( $item->mapped('author') == \IPS\Member::loggedIn()->member_id )
Could you specify step by step how to reproduce it?

DawPi reacted to Adriano Faria in [Suggestion] Downloads app: Allow parent categories to show files from sub categories
If there’s at least one file I see no sense to display files from a category that’s not the one you’re browsing.
I think $15 on a one time only payment without renewals is pretty reasonable. People who purchased this in 2019, still uses if for 4 years. Anyway, you can save your pennies by:
learning to code your own stuff: https://invisioncommunity.com/developers Remain waiting for IPS to implement this. This request, for example, exists since IPS 4.0.X. -

DawPi reacted to Adriano Faria in Change language of the charts labels
Probably it is hard coded (by IPS) to English:
Google Charts supports other languages so most likely a “language” parameter isn’t working or not passed at all.

DawPi reacted to Grafidea in Invision Insight: Did someone say, patches?
A small notification in the admin panel about the patch is enough. In what quarter do you plan to refresh the look?

DawPi got a reaction from David N. in Unread topics in topic feeds.
I have mod for that - (DP45) Unread Items in Topic Feed. Works fine with IPS 4.7. Anyone interested please send me PM. I'll send that for free.

DawPi reacted to Dreadknux in Search Results Display: Group Connected CMS Records & Topics/Other Content
One of the things I like about Invision Community is the ability to create Pages/CMS records from content published in other areas of the site. In my case, I am exploring leveraging the engaged community on my forums to help populate news stories across my website. So in my situation, I tend to use the CMS 'Copy to Database' feature with Topics often.
However, this causes a little confusion with regards to discoverability and organised search, as content that has been linked/connected in this way are not listed as such in search results or activity feeds. This means that, if a lot of your site content relies on the marriage between CMS/Pages and Topics/other content, it can easily look like content is duplicated several times on the website. This can be (and is, for me) a frustrating browsing experience for users who might want to sweep Tagged content, only to find items that are listed as separate entries but are in fact linked items of the same content.
I would like to suggest an improvement in a future Invision Community version, that attempts to address this. It would be great to have a setting in ACP that ensures, if a topic (or other piece of content on the site) has been used to create a CMS record, the two pieces of content are grouped in search results.
I've made a mockup of how this could be designed. First, here's a snapshot of how it currently looks when I create a new CMS record (in this case, a news article) and have a topic automatically created upon publish. As you can see, there is a Pages content block for the CMS record (complete with thumbnail) at the top, and underneath it a separate Topic content block with exactly the same content.
And here is my mockup for a potential solution. Note that the topic entry is marked as a 'connected topic' as it was created from the CMS record.
You could also build in additional settings to further customise this - for example, I want to make sure that the CMS record/article is always shown first as the 'parent' result in groupings like this, but there could be a toggle to swap this around and ensure that, if any such groupings exist in search results, that it's the Topic that is shown as the top 'parent' result and the CMS record is instead nested underneath it.
It's not the most urgent QOL improvement, to be honest, but I think it would help make search and content discovery on Invision Communities a bit more sensible. 🙂

DawPi got a reaction from OptimusBain in (DP43) Topic Notes
It wasn't. Only he asked about something like this.
Nope. 🙂
You're looking for a different mod I think.
