Are you using forums or pages as your frontpage? If you're using Forums, your best method is to change to another view like Grid or Fluid and enhance with widgets. If you're using Pages, then the sky is the limit depending upon what you'd like to accomplish. Check on the following mods in the Marketplace: Spirit by @Brian A.
