Make Unblockable PM Groups really unblockable
by Guest sparc- 1 reply
The current Unblockable PM Group feature doesn't allow PMs to members who have their personal messenger disabled. IMO, it should be set that way by default as Unblockable PM Groups are most likely staff members. If they need to PM someone who's disabled their personal messenger, it's probably for a good reason. If it's not set that way by default, it should at least have some sort of sub-setting that says: Allow groups to override 'disabled personal messenger'? Yes/No :)

Expected format
by Guest Digi- 0 replies
- 1.1k views
Currently the "expected format" field in the custom profile fields create/edit screen makes it so that the expected input is also bound by length and the variable entered. I'd like to see this expended to allow the use of regex so that we aren't stuck with situations like those mentioned in this post and "length" isn't a requirement unless you (the admin) make it one. :)

Invisible Posts - Different Levels
by Guest Luke- 20 replies
Alright.... I guess it makes sense that invisible posts can't be seen by members, even the creator to some degree. But being able to have the members see their own post if it was invisible is also very useful. So what I suggest is... Either make invisible posts/topics visible to their owners, or have two different types of invisible posts, clearly identifiable. My moderators see this as a very useful feature because they are able to talk with the poster as a group without the other members seeing the discussion. Also makes a help desk possible. Maybe instead of showing the shaded thing and the "queue" thing, if it's the type of invisible that the owner can see, show an …

COPPA

That number of COPPA members awaiting approval in the admin tab needs to be a link! I ahd mentioned that a while back and it never was done and now I just noticed there is 1 pending and I can't even freakin find where to go to do anything about it. I glance through everything, so oh well, hopefully I find it eventually.

Question about License

I recently (today) stumbled on a Invision forum that had inappropriate content, more specifically in the nature of advertisements about genital extensions. There seemed evident quite an amount of such content, and I was wondering wether such uses of your software is allowed or not. I will not publicly reveal the name or address of the forum, but you can contact me (PM) for it.

Feature - BBCode PHP Processor 1 2
by Guest StrangeWill- 43 replies
- 9.8k views
An awesome feature I would think is the ability to include a PHP file with a BBCode that you setup, basically so that you can execute some logic code needed for proper formatting. It makes it easy to redistribute BBCode and also allows for a HUGE range of things you can use (not to mention, you can access the entire IPB library for additional processing). Basically just a function that hands off the user input in certain fields, and whatever value is returned is the generated output... :P Simple, easy, extremely effective, extremely powerful.

BBCode CODE Box
by Guest Jaggi- 4 replies
- 4.3k views
when we post code on the forum its usually because we want to avoid ipb's parser but mostly because it actually has code inside it. Usually we'd refer to a part of that code and i thought a simple but good addition would be to have line numbers for code inside code boxes as it'd make things much more efficient and its a easy implementation. I know people saying that oh "what if i wanna copy code" well i'd suggest having the line numbers and code in separate divs so you can copy the code without getting the line numbers.

Feature Request : Fixed Maximum Image Sizes
by Guest Rynert- 2 replies

I would like an ACP setting that sets the maximum image width or height (in pixels) which is set against both linked and attached/uploaded images - images greater than these values are converted to thumbnails. These to be absolute settings not affected by resize percentages or screen resolution.

Single BBCode export
by Guest Digi- 5 replies
- 1.9k views
Brandon and I (and others on IPSB staff) we discussing what to do with bbcodes. Should we through them in a wiki? Put them as downloads? What to do. Well, I think that download is the best option, but it has one restriction here. The only way to export bbcodes is in a one-shot, single file, way. This means that every custom bbcode you have will be exported anytime you use this tool. I'd like to see the ability to export singular bbcodes to an xml document for sharing. The benefits to this is that we can offer a simple way for folks to install custom bbcodes via a single file download. No more cluttering the wiki with detailed instructions that are duplicated with other …

take a look at http://www.egmcartech.com/2007/04/22/this-...007-04-20-2007/ Can't we make it so that images pop up like that? It would be easier especially since people get new windows with most images.

IPB marketing

Hello. First, I want to say that I really like what you have created here. I just bought 2.2 and it is up and running smooth. I do not see any cons. That said, I almost didn't buy it. I have used free forums for a few years now. about a year ago I came across IPB 1.3. It is still a decent peice of software and I always liked the feel of IPB so I used it for the last year at my gaming website's forum. I was sure there were some bugs or holes in it since IPB had advanced so far, but I didnt care since backups were easy to make. Then I ran across a 2.x version of the board and was impressed. This would really help enhance the community. (it DID go over as a big hit! …

Admin email validation for specific email domains
by Guest gweilo8888- 23 replies
- 7.1k views
After dealing with some spambots that had made it onto my site today, I got to thinking. Most of us know the familiar problem well. We don't want to require "User then Admin validation" for all of our members, because it will inconvenience the members themselves (many will leave, never to return, when they find themselves still unable to post, after registering and validating their email address). "User then Admin validation" is also simply too much work for our admins on a large, popular forum. Thing is, without the admin oversight, we're getting simply too many spambot signups. Some from obvious domains like cashette.com, or IP blocks from countries like (say) Russia…

A way to show blog first in profile or link to a personal picture?
by Guest Madcool979- 1 reply

Is there a way to display blogs first when looking at a member's profile instead of topics? Also i noticed that we can link to an external source for personal pictures. I much rather have people link to their personal picture like their avatar than to allow uploads. Let me know. thanks!

Member name prefix/suffix
by Guest Luke- 4 replies
- 2.3k views
In the new profile the group name needs to be wrapped in the new prefix/suffix like it is when you view a post. Also I *think* that the "<a href="...">{prefix}{member name}{suffix}</a>" thing is hard coded. I would have liked to turn it into "{prefix}<a href="...">{member name}</a>{suffix}", but I can't without modifying a PHP file. Unless it was moved to a template and I'm just missing it?

Custom message types, like in vB, required
by Guest Vitaly- 10 replies
- 3.7k views
I've seen very nice implementation of such feature on one vB-based forum: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=215 This is very convenient for categiries, suited for buy/sell operations. Instead if icons, there are message type with (!) ability so filter messages by type. For example, if I wish buy item, I have to look only "for sale" topics, I no needs to see "wanted" and "sold". It would be very nice to have such features in IPB, because many big site have "buy/sell" categories at their forum.

This step in the upgradeprocess: function install_checkdb is taking forever on my forum with 3 million posts. What is it good for? It checks each and every field in a table and count through them. This effectively prolongs the needed update-time with a factor 10. Can't you find another way to implement this?

2.3 question 1 2 3
by Guest Luke- 65 replies
- 16.1k views
I am in a bit of shock that IPB will be jumping to "2.3" all of a sudden. I understand that this is mostly bug fixes and more connect-ability with converge, but there is one thing in the announcement that confuses me. "New URL skin mapping - ability to apply a skin based on the URL a visitor is viewing" With 2.2 and before you could apply skins to specific forums. From the sounds of it you can apply a skin to a url rather than a specific forum... Is that right? If so... couldn't the modder already do this by overwriting the skin id before the cache is loaded? I'm just wondering what the purpose of this is... This is not something I would benefit personally, let alone th…
