Luke Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 Alright.... I guess it makes sense that invisible posts can't be seen by members, even the creator to some degree. But being able to have the members see their own post if it was invisible is also very useful. So what I suggest is... Either make invisible posts/topics visible to their owners, or have two different types of invisible posts, clearly identifiable. My moderators see this as a very useful feature because they are able to talk with the poster as a group without the other members seeing the discussion. Also makes a help desk possible.Maybe instead of showing the shaded thing and the "queue" thing, if it's the type of invisible that the owner can see, show an eye icon with a line through it for the "Post Icon" or something.
TCWT Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 I agree with this, sometimes members pm me to ask what happened to their post/topic...
TestingSomething Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 I don't know what the deal is with people making suggestions because pretty much it's always a carbon copy answer of either they don't care what people want or it will be done when 3.0 comes out, which was supposed to be the next version after 2.1, then the next version after 2.2. So it is pretty much a waste making suggestions, in my opinion.
TestingSomething Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 And yes I am aware I made suggestions also. But I just realized all of the other suggestions here which never get implemented anyway and people suggesting things for years that make a lot of sense which aren't ever added.
Luke Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 Well I figure that if I suggest it long enough and keep my mouth flapping they might add it just to get me to shut up. :P
bfarber Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 I'm sorry you feel that way Basher - we are striving to keep IPB up to date with current technology standards, while maintaining performance, security, and our overall goals for the software. Hundreds of suggestions have been implemented, but we obviously cannot implement all 5000+ suggestions ever made. Many people already consider the software bloated.I can't speak for this particular suggestion, but every suggestion made is considered. We're just not able to add every suggestion made, however.
C_ind Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 Making invisible posts visible to their owners only requires four lines of edits, so I hope this is added as a on/off setting in the future as well. It's pretty essential if most of your forums are post moderated, otherwise there'd be lots of double posting and confused people wondering where their posts have gone. (Redirects aren't read, or go by too quickly for many).
Luke Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 Yeah.... I added this modification to my forum in 2.1 and before, and when I decided to not do any more modifications to my forum it confused my moderators quite a bit... It only makes sense that the owner can see their own post. First, so they know it was even posted... The redirect is hard to understand or too fast.. Two, it's useful to make a conversation with the poster between the moderators as a group and makes a good help desk... Three, it only makes sense. So if there's any reason at all that an owner can't see their own posts I suggest having two different methods. Otherwise, it would be easier just to allow them to see their own invisible topic/post.

The background colour for visible and invisible posts are different in the default skin, so you don't need to hide the post completely to show that it's not been accepted yet.

C_ind Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 I meant pre moderated, sorry, but I think you understood me right. The screen you're referring to is the redirect that appear after posting, but I think people ignore the redirects or they don't stay up long enough for people to read them. At the very least, there is a lot of double posting and confusion when you have forums where all posts need to be approved and members can't see their own posts. That's just my experience.
Luke Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 I can confirm this as well. On my forum when we had a moderated forum people kept posting it...

I think even some of mine have been or are going to be or something.
stobbo Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 What's an invisible post?A post which is only visible to administrators and moderators.
Antony Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 I've got to add my support to this idea too. Perhaps we could also include a little message at the bottom of the post stating it isn't visible to other users until approved. I certianly agree that posts hidden to the user who created them is very confusing as they think it hasn't been posted and then repost, to the annoyance of the moderators.
VelvetElvis Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 FWIW, invisible posts are sorta broken right now in that the post queue (is it obvious that this is brit software or what? no American in their right mind would ever use that word by choice.) and invisible posts are what amounts to two different applications of the same feature. If you have a lot of posts that have been made invisible it makes it difficult to find posts that are awaiting moderator approval to become invisible.
Κeith Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 Not really that hard. Just click on the little image next to the forum name on the idx, then that sorts all the topics that are queued or have queued posts within them. Then click it in the replies column to pull the queued posts to the top of said topics...
zigs Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 Gosh! If I had to have that many invisable posts on my board, I would do some banning..

Strangely enough, the text appears though lol
