On Guard...

Heh I know some will come in with swords lashing, but I'm curious if we are closer to RC than 'before June' - Do we have a possible time frame, I used to read a blog on here I think with daily updates of fixes/to be done etc, maybe that was on the 'beta' board IPS had up, I'm just trying to plan ahead for my new site, I already have over 200 members wanting to join so as I say, I'm just trying to get a less rough idea of a time frame, Godfather II for the 360 comes out today so that may pass some time for me :P

In IPB2 the following is received VIA an email topic reply. (see below) 1. Although useful and help. 2. Does NOT have the content of the reply. Question: 1. Will IPB3 have the content of the reply in the email? (similar to the customer feedback when submitting a ticket) Benefits: 1. Instant notification to the recipient. 2. Ability to read reply and opt to reply to the thread. ----if opt out server doesn't get the unnecessary hit to just view reply content. 3. Better server performance 4. Better user experience. IPB2. <your username>, <repliers username> has just posted a reply to a topic that you have subscribed to titled "<thread title…

I noticed that 95% of the members that bump old topics with nothing new to add are newbies. It'd be nice if there is an option to allow which user groups can bump topics x days old (based on the last reply).

Is there any way to make Merged topics behave the same way as Moved topics? For example, in forum view, show an arrow or something on the newer topic that was merged and when you click on that topic link, it brings you to the merged thread. Example on Webhostingtalk: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=31 (it shows Moved instead of Merged to the left of the topic title) This way, members will know what happened to their topics. Vb does have this and I thought it would be nice if 3.0 incorporates it if it already haven't. :)

IPB 3: Thread Links in Digest
by Guest coe- 2 replies
We use digests to help reduce the number of emails. Currently in IPB 2, the digests that we receive do not have a link to the thread. This is problematic since trying to find that particular topic is a longer process than it should be. Will IPB 3 have the embedded link to each topic? 1. go to the board. 2. go to the sub forum 3. visual search for the topic that you are interested in. if the topic is on the first page. 4. if not use the search field 5. type the topic of interest 6. repeat for each topic your interested in. done. or. 1. click on the link included in the digest to get to the topic you're interested in. done. The second option is much more ef…

In IPB 2, the user management option is a little elongated. 1. file the user 2. assign the permissions. 3. save user. 4. go to the manage members option 5. search for the user to confirm group affiliation or. 1. Go to the group interface. 2. ajax search for users. 3. add users to the group. 4. assign permission mask to the user. Resolves: 1. one interface to see all the individuals in a group. 2. point click interface to see permission mask of all the users assigned to that group. 3. Ideal for a board that has many users and very permission intensive boards.

images posted with [IMG] tag and resized ?
by Guest bearback- 7 replies
- 2.2k views
Is there anyway to improve posted images using the image url option with img tags. problems are when large images are posted and are resized using the Automatically Resize 'Large' Images option in ACP. When the topic is viewed the full size image loads first and only after the image has loaded is it resized, when page is loading large images not only screws up the layout of the whole forum page, and makes the page loading really slow but is also not good for people on slow connections. Anyway to stop large images loading full size first and keeping them to a set size for faster loading, something similar to a posting images using the attachment option. thanks

Is IPB3 supposed to fully support IPC 1.1?
by Guest Brandon D- 5 replies
I noticed that if you enable Converge on an IPB3 install "Username" is changed to "Username or email address" on the login form, which is different to how "Username" is changed to just "Email address" on IPB2. This implies that you can login using your IP.Converge username, added to IPC 1.1, on IPB3. This isn't the case for people logging into IPB for the first time using their converge account (they have to login using their email address until IPB creates a local account for them in which they can now use their username to login). Is this intended?

IP.Board 3.0
by Guest Yorkshireman- 2 replies

So I am at College and I come to visit the forums, and I get the follow error message from Firefox (3.0.7). ] [ Clicky In Internet Explorer 7 it just craps out and says can't connect or something, if you'd like a screen shot I'll see about getting one. The odd thing is, I can view the forums through a proxy. What's that about? Is it the College's proxy getting in the way (basically disrupting it)?

Do IPB3.0 email notifications check via the ban filters before being sent?
by Guest The Old Man- 2 replies
Just wondering if this may have been overlooked at all, just in case? I want to continue to avoid the situation where banned members could still receive e-mail subscription topic/forum reply notifications. Once in IPBv2.x this was a bug that was kindly fixed when I reported it for the next release at the time. One of ex-moderators got an e-mail reply notification from our staff forum that caused a lot of my members a lot of grief becasue the board didn't check the ban filters before sending out the email and it contained a copy of a post from our staff forum. With IPB3.0 being written from the ground up I was concerned it may have been overlooked. Thanks guys…

Please add these back on the edit permission set page.
by Guest TrixieTang- 3 replies
- 1.3k views
I only just noticed that these were missing in 3.0... First off the buttons at the top made permission editing so much easier if you have a lot of forums, so why were they removed? If I have to add another permission set this is going to make setting it up take a lot longer considering the number of forums I have... And while I can understand why renaming a permission set isn't in the same place it used to be... I don't see why it was removed completely... couldn't a "Rename Permission Set" option be added to the drop down menus on the "Forum Permission Set Management" page? I mean if you make a typo you'd want a way to fix it without having to edit the name in the …

Javascript compression in IPB 3.0
by Guest ssslippy- 10 replies
- 1.7k views
Compressing JavaScript not only makes the download faster the code can be executed faster on the client side. The new post page has 11 JavaScript files. That is quite a few JavaScript files. Simple fact is smaller files save bandwidth and execution time. Note: I did try to search for this topic but it seems the word JavaScript is disabled in searches.

Topic Multi-Moderation

Hi there Could you please consider adding the option to add the multi-moderation to the description field instead of the title field. Currently we can only add it to the title (beginning or end). The problem is that if the title is already long you don't see the whole multi-mod or it makes everything cluttered. Often users do not use the description field at all when making their topic so there is plenty of room there so it would be pratical to use that field for multi-mods. Thanks in advance for your consideration

Lofi skin feedback
by Guest Brandon D- 4 replies

First off, I really like the skin so far. I know it's a work in progress so I apologize if some of this will already bel addressed. - You seem to be using the breadcrumb nav in the blue header. Love the idea but it'd be nice if they were links like the breadcrumb, it's eaiser to click on the larger text in the header and it seems like the breadcrumb nav is the primary source of navigation on this skin. - Topic listing is cut off, can't see last reply info Thought there was more but I can't remember :P

Flash video as "Personal Photo" in profile?
by Guest JohnnyBeGood- 5 replies
- 1.2k views
Hi, I was wondering if its possible to add flash video (.swf) as personal photo? Most likely you're asking your self why video as personal photo? its because flash has so many cool slide shows that would look really nice with multiple photos on just one page. Looking under ADMIN CP -> MANAGMENT -> ATTACHMENTS -> Attachment Types -> .swf there's option to allow it under personal photos. but whenever I try I get error wrong extension. Here's sample .swf 3KB file http://www.box.net/shared/shpt4t298j if someone could test it? Thanks!

more post stats?
by Guest Der Kaiser- 10 replies
- 1.5k views
Would be nice (albeit late in teh game here) to get more stats about posting and registration through the admin cp. things such as: - Comparing stats based on months - Posts per forum per hour/day/month - Traffic Timeline (showing peak usage times) Things that can help the adminstrtor zero in on the weaker parts of the forum they own, and work on building them up. I understand its not up to IPB to build my, or anyones site, but surely the more big boards you have, the better an endoresment for IPB it is. Currently i have 105,000 members, and 3,000,000 + posts, and know when the majority are around, or whaere they are posting, in relation to other forums or other …

Can you force forum members to ignore each other through the admin area? Not ask them to and they be able to do it, but go in and as an admin make them ignore each other as a punishment for fighting on the boards.
