Posted March 19, 200915 yr Is there anyway to improve posted images using the image url option with img tags. problems are when large images are posted and are resized using the Automatically Resize 'Large' Images option in ACP. When the topic is viewed the full size image loads first and only after the image has loaded is it resized, when page is loading large images not only screws up the layout of the whole forum page, and makes the page loading really slow but is also not good for people on slow connections. Anyway to stop large images loading full size first and keeping them to a set size for faster loading, something similar to a posting images using the attachment option. thanks
March 19, 200915 yr I think it's a bug ... has it been reported? If it's a bug, it's been around a long time - since 2.2.x at least.
March 19, 200915 yr It's not a bug and no, I'm afraid this isn't something we'll likely change. We use javascript to resize remote images since we don't have direct access to them and most browsers load the image before the javascript to resize them executes.

March 20, 200915 yr The only way to do what you are requesting is to either 1) Download remotely linked images local to your server, and create thumbnails. This isn't desirable as it would then cause you to use hosting space for remotely linked images (most people wouldn't want that), and the user no longer has control over the image (if they change it remotely, you will still have the original copy) 2) Try to grab file sizes of remotely linked images before the page loads - this isn't always supported on all servers, and would increase the page loading time. I think our current method does the job just fine. Remotely linked images used not to be resized at all. At least now they are done when they load.

March 21, 200915 yr or use something like imageshack where users can set it so the link wil display a resized version of the original You will only have your "problem" when your users are hotlinking images.
