I can't find this option anywhere in ACP to Login Automatically after registration?

When user register a new account, it should automatically login and then user need to validate their account via email.

    Brandon,

First, I have EMAIL VALIDATION selected for my system. I use subscriptions extensively. It has been a major headache in my system to get new users to get to the payment screens. After reading your answer above, I learned something new about when they can get automatically logged in. That explains a lot.

However, is the Validation system truly working as advertised? If a user creates an account, he/she can immediately log into the system without any further action. I just tested this numerous times while playing around with one of the features. (What doesn't happen is the automatic login, but the email (or administrators) validation DOES NOT have to happen in order to log in.

    Just an observation.

I have some suggestions that I would love to see implemented in the UCP in the future; these suggestions are both original and derived from other forum software. I hope to see some added in the future!

    UCP Layout
I don't think the tabbed layout works that well with the UCP. I like the fact that there are tabs, but I don't like the fact the layout revolves around them. I like the old style of the left-hand-side options. Possibly some AJAX for expanding and contracting them, and maybe still use tabs a bit? It's sometimes complex to understand which tab something is on (profile & settings get confused alot) etc; also, make common features accessable easily (possibly an optional dashboard?)

    Profile Field Privacy/Private Profiles
I've noticed this feature in vB, and I fell in-love with it. I know that IPB is trying to stay away from becoming a massive scattered social network platform, but this is a feature I see as very useful; especially in the area of hiding contact details for only friends to see; and for preventing ignored users from viewing areas of the profile/posting messages. I strongly support implimenting this into IPB3

Those are my main concerns, also, there are some posted on this thread (CUSTOMER/STAFF ACCESS ONLY, SORRY).

I hope to see these added soon!

    Hello,

I am trying to solve some issues myself, without troubling support and community. So I try to use search feature in this forum. It is not really usable and often does not make sense:

    1. When I am looking for search phrase like "import from coppermine", I get any topic where import OR from OR coppermine appears. I appreciate, especially, search results mathing the single word "from". :)
    2. When nothing is found and I try another search phrase I am always have to wait 20 seconds.

Why should I wait, if nothing has been found? Why am I assumed to be a flooder as registered customer on this board?
    3. In the search results I would like to have a topic only once and not all the posts from one topic. It is often not enough to read the found post, but the whole topic to understand it. So, I would not like to have all the posts from the already readen topic listed 5 to 10 times in the search results.
    4. I would use Google search on this board (as more sophisticated alternative), but the board for customer is set private, so that no Google search is possbile.

Apart of the 4th point the search feature is not user friendly. Not here and not in the customer boards.

The IPB board is only 150. The suite is 250. However since vbulletin has an albums feature that would require IPB gallery to migrate that data, I think it would be a good idea for IPB to have a discounted package that includes forum and gallery to facilitate a proper migration of the VB forum to IPB.

I have been hanging around here for days now and have given myself quite a headache trying to decide how to move forward. It is going to cost us at least $130 each site to 'upgrade' each of our VB licences but it's not that actual amount that I am especially objecting to but the very different way they want to handle support and upgrades. I don't feel at all comfortable with placing the future of our forums with IB/VB anymore - a simple trust thing (or lack of trust in fact).

I also am uncomfortable spending such an amount with no demo to see and especially no timescale in place.

Offsetting that 'problem' I also am not in a position to spend 3 lots of $250 to change to IPB and set my mind at rest. I suspect the change would create a huge amount of work for me but at least I might sleep a little easier in the long run.

If I could change to IPB for the same cost as my VB upgrade would cost then I think it's a no brainer for me and many in my situation.

As if the deadline that VB have placed on us wasn't bad enough I need to be out of the country for 10 days ( I leave in 2 days ) so my time is running out VERY rapidly and that's just adding to an already stressful situation.

If you think you can do a deal for us VB'ers that want to get some trust back in our lives can you make it quick please

I run a large sports forum and we rely on the games to generate traffic. My suggestion is that the calendar be made able to add dates from an outside source. The sports teams release the schedules in formats such as Microsoft outlook calendar files and csv. files. Is it possible to add this function of auto import?

Currently if you go to someone's profile and try to send them a PM, if you decide you need all the editor options you don't have them, and there isn't a way to get to them short of copying what you typed so far, going to your messenger, typing in the name of the member, and pasting what you had written...

There really needs to be a link on the "Quick PM" popup like their is on the fast reply, "Use Full Editor" which keeps what you'd written, who you're sending it to, and takes you to your messenger to send a PM with access to all the editor options.

Strike X reacted to Arun Kumar in Feature Request: Get active topics for
In IPB 2.3.6 we had an option to list active topics for "today", "past week", "past month" and so on. This feature seems to have been removed in 3.0.1 and our members are vouching for that feature. I don't know why that feature has been removed. The only option in IPB 3 is to list the active topics in the past 24 hours. The filter option to get the active topics beyond that is not available in the results page. I have attached a screenshot of that option from 2.3.6. I hope this feature will be added in the future release.

Why not do the same for View New Content??

Strike X reacted to Michael in Reporting posts in a popup?
Would it be possible (in a future version, of course, unless it's something you can throw in easily enough) to make the 'report a post' feature use the javascript popup class? If you go into a topic and report the post, when you hit 'back' you get directed back to the page that actually sends the report, and the report gets sent again. If you could just popup a form where you could report the post, the 'back' button will then really go back again.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I thought that the preview board did do it in a popup way back when.

That old running thread on the Preview forum had quite a few posts in agreement with what I (and others) wrote, and my first post in that thread was quite upvoted. I would hazard a guess that the majority of people that regularly use the "View New Posts" function on 2.3.6 see the new "View New Content" results as a downgrade.

    Some.

Yes, please do make the results tabular. Overall you guys have done a great job with 3.0, I'm quite confident that you are up to the challenge of properly remedying this issue. This is really the only major sticking point I have with 3.0 and it's a big one (the other being new topic markers, which is somewhat related).

It wasn't broken to begin with and did not need fixing at all.

    1) Bring back the columnar format. It's easy to parse, and your eyes know right where to go for each bit of information once you're familiar with the format. The new format uses two "rows" of information for each "new" result and there is plenty of wasted white space. In this particular instance, adding white space for the sake of making the results appear "cleaner" simply doesn't work in my opinion. This goes against the grain "form follows function".

    2) The topic title links to the first new post in the thread. Previously, the topic title linked to the first post in the thread and you used the "New Post" icon to go to the first new post. Now there is no way to go to the first post, which is useful if you want to catch up on a thread you haven't viewed in a while (among other reasons). This is completely inconsistent with how the title link works when viewing the topic list in a forum (which itself isn't consistent when viewing the forum index!!)

    3) Number of "Views" was removed. Useful to see threads that are particularly active.

    4) "Topic Starter" was removed. This is nice information to have, as you may be more interested in threads started by particular users than others. As a forum admin, this is also useful when you want to keep an eye on threads started by particular users (for instance, someone who may be a trouble starter).

    5) You can no longer click on the number of "Replies" to get a popup showing the replies in a thread.

    6) No attachments icon so you can see threads with attachments in them. This also includes the accompanying link that would give you a popup showing all the attachments (which I have used many times).

    7) No means to get to the "Last Post". Currently in 2.3.6, the "Last post by" text links to the last post in the thread. Useful if you want to jump right to the end of a thread.

    8) Page links were removed for threads spanning multiple pages. This includes the "Jump to page" link shown before the page links.

    9) The "Get active topics for:" dropdown at the bottom of the "View New Post" results is gone. Functionality removed.

As you can see, even with the improvements you've made, there's still quite a bit missing from the original "View New Posts" results. Much of this functionality exists when viewing the topics in a forum. Link to first post in thread, topic starter, attachment link, replies link, link to last post, and number of views are all present, in a nice, columnar format. But the "View New Posts" results as it exists in 2.3, which is nearly identical in appearance, contains too much information? What?

Please bring back the functionality and appearance of the 2.3.6 "View New Posts" results.

I agree with the original poster--it's a shame that Invision appears ready to ship their updated flagship product with this new incarnation of "View New Posts". I started a long-running thread on the Preview forum regarding this, and while some improvements were made, overall the net result is that useful information was removed and it's now more difficult to parse. And don't get me started on returning "Unread" results instead of "New" results--the various tabs in this search aren't even consistent with how they work.

Sorry but I have to say, it's horrific.

The view new posts feature on IPB2 is excellent, is used regularly on my forum for members to easilys view the latest posts in all forums. There is just something wrong, there is less info, but it's not easy on the eye, at all.

I assume this is how it's going to be as we've reached this stage.

Maybe you should show the options to Root Admins only then? I just can't help thinking that the current setup is not ideal. On at least two occasions already here on this site, I've had to tell someone that they had to enable IN_DEV just to change the positioning of a hook. Whenever they would do that, all users on the board could either get huge ugly errors or get info revealed to them that they shouldn't have.

It would be one thing if a board admin could have a development board where they did have IN_DEV turned on so they could experiment with this, but even with that setup, once they figure out what needs changed there is still no way other than enabling IN_DEV on a production board to alter this (unless you want to edit serialized values directly in the database).

Currently, in order to edit a hook to change something like which template it hooks into, you have to turn on IN_DEV mode. This is bad because it puts the whole site into developers mode. We should be able to edit a hook's properties without having to enable IN_DEV.
