DamonT got a reaction from Afrodude in Copyright buys should disable "Upgrade to Cloud" acp adverts
+1
The more cloud information is shown, the more negative I am about it. I'm quite an advanced user - I know the solution and have the confidence that I won't migrate to the cloud. And if, by some miracle, I want to (e.g., as part of another project), I will definitely keep it in mind.

I think IPS rocks, but copyright buys should disable "Upgrade to Cloud" acp adverts automagiclly. It seems you know your community's thoughts on the advert already and I am not sure why the hard stance on this. I mean that AND that this subjective "upgrade" you force our less savvy clients to look at would equal not using IPS at all. Our ToS has 24/7 support, dedicated servers and unlimited storage etc.. its so misleading its a show stopper for us in some scenarios.

But will end up on an error. That's not the problem here. Scanner is flagging same issues and a new one!

My bad... the block changed its position:
@Matt, it was fine a couple of days ago. Please don't say we'll have to go through every app again!
😞

Yep 😞 I checked and updated nearly 100 apps and plugins already.

For the sake of my head/health, I need to take a break.

Another suggestion, @Matt.
Make this message visible to everyone:
Transparency never hurts and will certainly avoid posts and messages asking to update.
Currently it shows only to file submitter (and staff).

@Matt, half of the resources I had to update since yesterday had a different parameter name in a Rest API method:
protected function _createOrUpdate( \IPS\node\Model $category ) I had to change it to:
protected function _createOrUpdate( \IPS\node\Model $node ) because of \IPS\Node\Api\NodeController.
---------------------
EDIT:
Another example:
public function saveForm( $val ) and:
public function saveForm( $values )
Is that REALLY necessary?

DamonT reacted to Daddy in IPS 4.7.2 final major problem
I've been running 8.1 for months now. Why are some of my apps locked to prevent fatal errors if they were already compatible?
Also why wasn't there any mention of this in the update list? The update just said Improvements to marking posts as solutions. I assumed it was a small update. I would say moving to php 8.x compatibility is a pretty key feature.. What's the point in showing anything if you aren't going to show anything useful?
Now I have 3 major apps that are the center of my community disabled waiting for updates that could potentially take weeks. It's just another failure after the next with these recent updates. Very truly ashamed how much IPS has devolved over the years.

Also: All applications where 4.7.1. I did not get ANY error or Warning BEFORE the upgrade about out-dated versions.

This just really s*cks. You need to add a warning for PHP7 users. That they NEED to upgrade to software that is PHP 8 ready... just s*cks. 😞

DamonT reacted to AlexJ in Version 4.7.2 and disabling applications
I don't want to create separate topic... but I updated and same thing.
This warning should be provided before I upgrade and not post the upgrade.
The following third party applications were disabled: marktopic donate cjcontact bulkpm quizzes brilliantdiscord radtags communitymap ideas So now I need to request the developers to fix their code? Did those developers where given enough notice to update their applications?
This is piss of play from IPS.

DamonT reacted to OptimusBain in Version 4.7.2 and disabling applications
Hello,
I just installed 4.7.2 and to my surprise I can see there are a few applications that have been locked and my community is no longer working as expected 😞
I mean, the system is locking the applications. I haven't been able to install PHP 8 yet and now I find that certain KEY applications and locked and my community is not working as it should. I know you are locking for security reasons, next PHP 8 update, but there are will be many that will need time for the upgrade for various reasons. Locking the applications and NOT allowing to turn them on again is insane 😞
Now, my community is not working properly 😞 Why? Because, I rely on certain applications that are key to my community.
For instance:
The Tutorials system that @Adriano Faria created are KEY to my community. Now, it's gone 😞 The Newsletters application from @HeadStand The VideoBox application from @onlyME The drip campaigns from @rebraf So now my community cannot:
Display the tutorials Display hundreds of videos Cannot send newsletters and cannot send the emails in the drip campaigns I mean, this is insane. You should WARN users, not LOCK applications. You are rendering my community USELESS with these changes.
When the update happens, the script should have said BEFORE proceeding.....
Hey, we checked your applications and the following ones "......" will be locked and disable if you proceed with the upgrade. Contact with the developers BEFORE you proceed.
But no, IPS installs the upgrade and now I am f****. Why? I mean, it's insane. You just cannot do that without prior warning and don't tell me to read the posts in the community lounge, that would be even more insane. I should have been warned that those applications are going to be locked PRIOR to the upgrade.
How can I fix this then? I will have to contact the developers, they will take time to fix the applications and IPS will take even more time to approve the submissions. It's insane.
I believe that the new 4.7.2 update has NOT been done logically and properly. I am seriously affected and I am pretty sure that I won't be the only one. You didn't warn about the applications that were going to be disabled and LOCKED. Ok, IPS forum works because you are not using apps from the Marketplace, but since you created the marketplace in the first place, you MUST WARN those who have installed those applications that the marketplace supports. You must warn users before they install a new forum version if the upgrade will disable and lock certain applications that could be critical for other users.
IPS has its own developers, 99% of your clients won't. So, locking and disabled the apps without warning BEFORE the UPDATE button is pressed is INSANE 😞
Isn't there a way to re-enable them? Don't tell me to restore a backup. That wouldn't fix the issue that 4.7.2 update logic is wrong because it does NOT work that your community could be f**** if you proceed with the upgrade 😞
Thanks

This just really sucks. Sorry,i needed to say that. I did not get ANY error or Warning BEFORE the upgrade about out-dated versions. Al versions where 4.7.1 and im running PHP 7.4.29
It just sucks, this is a major failure. Damn it is
-
DamonT reacted to AlexJ in IPS 4.7.2 final major problem
Yeah IPS will not because it doesn't help them to sell it to more users. Their are lot of ways, where IPS could have handled this much better.
Allowing customers to know before the upgrade starts, but no - they wanted to forcefully disable it.
Irony - is those disabled addons are marked as compatible on IPS website itself for 4.7.
Horrible decision from Matt/team and pass the blame game to PHP 8.x.

This information should have been in the «blue banner» on top of our sites?
We really need to be active on here to learn stuff like this - about a minor upgrade…
-

Sorry to say but you (IPS) have done the upgrade most unprofessional way I could imagine. No more to say, disappointed again.

Yes, also don’t forget to mention that it was “unusable” up to recently: https://invisioncommunity.com/forums/topic/469114-v472-beta-3-weird-bug-with-the-new-scanner/
There are several topics reporting issues with it and the always asking to check next beta.

DamonT reacted to Giray in IPS 4.7.2 final major problem
Not sure if you notified all the third party devs but if they had been they would not be scrambling at the last minute. In a perfect world, for such a major shift, you'd think that third party developers would have upgraded their apps BEFORE 4.7.2 was released.
Not looking for an answer or explanation inasmuch as what's done is done, but it would have been smoother.

DamonT reacted to Davyc in IPS 4.7.2 final major problem
I've contacted the author, but my issue is not with something that needs to be corrected, rather it is that this information was provided 'after the upgrade' had that warning appeared prior then I would have contacted the author and waited for a solution before updating. I'm now at the mercy of the app provided to discover the issue, correct it/them and provide and update to the marketplace where it will be queued for approval.
I'm wondering how many apps will fall under this lock out as the apps are still available in the marketplace and they can still be installed from the ACP. There should have been a warning prior to upgrade to prevent clients sites from being rendered inoperable.

DamonT got a reaction from Hezeber in Category for badges
I would like to divide badges into thematic categories (e.g., for activity on the forum, for participation in contests, for numbers of posts, for numbers of likes) so that they display in the profile view in a batter way. It's not a big deal - just a category name, under it a list of badges (as it is now), another category name and another list of badges.

DamonT got a reaction from Christian Meixner in Description for manual badges
Badges awarded automatically may include a brief description explaining what the badge was awarded for. The same field would be useful for badges added manually.
